View Full Version : Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Class of 2004)
Why the fuck wasn't Black Sabbath or Deep Purple inducted? They pretty much helped to invent heavy metal.
New Rock Hall inductees announced (http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/11/20/music.rock.reut/index.html)
NEW YORK (Billboard) -- The late George Harrison, Prince, Traffic and ZZ Top are among the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Jackson Browne, the Dells and Bob Seger round out the group.
Harrison was previously inducted in the Rock Hall's 1988 class as a member of the Beatles; former bandmates John Lennon and Paul McCartney have already been inducted as solo artists.
The 19th annual induction ceremony will be held March 15 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. A Lifetime Achievement Award /Non-Performer honoree will be announced soon.
Artists become eligible 25 years after the release of their first recording. A Foundation committee nominates eligible artists, who are then voted on by an international body of about 700 music experts.

Black Sabbath has always said they don't want to be in the Hall of Fame.

The R&R Hall is a joke.
First off, it's packed with performers from other genres, secondly, they let just about anyone in.

Heeeyyy - Bob Seger was great back in the day. Ok, back in the 70's, but he still rocked. And his version of Ramblin' Man still kicks ass.
The worst part about the R&RHOF is the televised show they put on. It is always highly edited and when bands are playing, you just see the audience sitting there, at their dinner tables, looking far from amused. Make it a concert. Let people get up muck around.

Because outside of a couple songs, Deep Purple fucking SUCKED. What's next, The Moody Blues?

I think the Moody Blues are already in there.
Can't wait for Dokken too get in.

I suppose some would say the same about Sabbath. They certainly weren't critical darlings. But Purple's "In Rock" and "Machine Head" albums definitely influenced most of the later metal bands.
Ritchie Blackmore is one of my favorite guitarists.
What's next, The Moody Blues?
Shit, probably. Maybe Yes and ELP as well. We can't forget '70s "progressive/art rock"!

The only thing "Machine Head" influenced was Bush.
FOR SHAME.
And come on, Sabbath may have been blasted by critics, but just listen to them and compare them to Deep Purple. Not even the same ballpark. Purple had, what, "Hush" and "Smoke On The Water"? AT BEST? And when Kula Shaker is covering your hits, well, watch out...
There, Deep Purple inspired shitty 90's British bands. Hoooo-hah.

That's like saying Sabbath only had "Paranoid" and "Iron Man".

Furtherman,
starting to think more and more that we're related, greatest Seger song and one of my fav's, especially the live version(more lead guitar)...
Deep Purple / Hush, Woman From Tokyo, Highway Star, Space Truckin, Smoke On The Water, Lazy, and others. Made In Japan is one of the top live albums out there.
Yeah, i'm old...

The R&R Hall of Fame is such a load of crap. As long as you've been around long enough they will let you in.Eventually they'll run out of big names and start letting everyone in.
Im glad for Bob Seger though I like him a lot but I despise Jackson Browne.

There's a ton of bands that deserve to go in and have been ignored for years. In addition to Sabbath and Deep Purple, two of the most influential hard rock/metal bands around, there's:
Iggy Pop & the Stooges
T-Rex
NY Dolls
Van Halen (!)
The Sex Pistols (!!)
How can these bands not be in it and people like Jackson Browne, Paul Simon, James Taylor and the Bee Gees, who never ever rocked once, can get in? It's just crap.
