View Full Version : Things That O&A Should've Been Around For
ChickenHawk

A lot of shit has happened since they got pulled that would've made for some GREAT radio, but unfortunately they couldn't be around for it. Sometimes I just find myself saying "Aww man, O&A would've had a field day with this!" Here's a few:
* Buddy Ebsen's death.
* The Blackout of 2003.
* The Radio Chick's firing from Q104.
* The war in Iraq (and everything that came with it).
* The Kobe rape scandal.
* The big Michael Jackson interview special from last year. ("I am Peter Pan.")
* The death of the 102-year-old Queen Mum.

The only time I think of them is when Ron or Fez try to do an impersonation of anyone. Anthony's talent is definitely being wasted on that beach. Besides that, Ron and Fez are all I need.

Yeah, Chris is on the right path. Those are all events Anthony would have me rolling over and Opie would have me wishing a truck would fall on him.

Howard Stern gets a new girlfriend
that happened while they were still on the air. But they weren't allowed to mention his name (stupid rule he asked for) and couldn't even say Howard K. Stern that dude from Anna Nicole show.
I think The show should come back but as
Anthony and Jim
Lose Opie and hire Jim Norton full time! Those were the funny ones and Opie sucks. Angry little Red Head freak.

Opie and Rick did a show by themselves once and it was godawful. They had Stephen Lynch in as a guest. I remember that because I went to see him that night. They need each other to make it work well,
If and when they come back, all contests should be BANNED from the show.

Really? I think Norton is funny as hell. And I'm sure Anthony would work well with someone else.
http://www.wowfans.com/jimnorton/poster1.jpg
Maybe Norton should just get his own show and Anthony can be a guest once in a while and do his impressions (I can never get enough Greasman asking if he's just been fired!)
all contests should be BANNED from the show.
Hell yeah, but not just because of "Sex for Sam 3" contests are usually lame to listen to. And only fun if you are there to watch or be part of it.

* Jim Norton doing a midday shift at WYSP
* I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here
* Anthony's Heart Attack.
This is, of course, assuming that they didn't get pulled off the air for something else in the last year and a half (!!) - besides, more importantly, if it hadn't happened when it did, who knows what kind of situation Ron and Fez would be in now.
(Did anyone catch the "sex in a church" reference on R&F last Friday! Wendell's face was beet red he was laughing so hard!)
BTW, I caught the tail-end of Don and Mike last week, and even they said that it is insane that Infinity has kept them off the air for doing what they were hired to do; that firing the GM and program director was the right thing (Ken and Jeremy), but pulling O&A off the air and sitting on them until their contract expires is wrong, even saying something to the effect of "They should just let them out of the contract and move on."
What's the countdown now anyway...6 months yet?? With Jeremy Coleman at Sirrus, along with some of other Infinity folks (will Tim Sabian be far behind), I'm betting Satellite Radio.

Once in a while Don and Mike make some sense when they're not talking about Elvis and old Game shows.
Anyone even have Satellite Radio? I can't imagine paying for radio. If you can get Satellite Radio on Walkmans then it might take off bigtime!

COnsidering their audience is mostly teenagers, college students and young adult males, I do not see them going to satellite radio. Seems like the more sophisticated radio lovers buy satellite. Most are probably not O&A fans. I think that would be a big mistake. I commute to New York City by bus for my job and I listen to my walkman or when I go to the gym, so I cannot get satellite radio

No idea. I'm sure his fans loved it.
Once in a while Don and Mike make some sense when they're not talking about Elvis and old Game shows.
For me, D&M were at their best in the mid 1990s before they got syndicated, when they went to the nudist park, or did their live shows, or were less antagonistic with their listeners/callers.
http://i13.ebayimg.com/01/i/00/e9/f4/d4_1.JPG
WTF is with it with radio shows that get syndicated??
With the exception of the fun of taunting other fans of other shows, I never really understood the blind hate for radio shows, whether they are on the same station, or directly compete. Maybe if a show took another show's timeslot I can understand (or is Bill O'Reilly, and is occupying a slot that should go to Ron and Fez!!!), but really - in the big mellon-baller of life, it just doesn't matter. [/Bill Murray]
Don't like it - don't listen. I don't think there's a radio show I haven't, at some point, just turned off at some point, and then come back.
Anyone even have Satellite Radio? I can't imagine paying for radio. If you can get Satellite Radio on Walkmans then it might take off bigtime!
I won't go out of my way to get one, but next time I buy a car it may factor into my decision. I'd like to see them make a receiver that can work for all competing companies first, though.
Because of the internet, O&A will live on with their fans that can't get/afford Sat radio, if that's the direction they go.
[b]MEANWHILE...this just in from DCRTV: "Infinity Declines To Pay O&A Fine - 11/19 - Infinity Broadcasting has told the FCC that it "respectfully declines" to pay a $357,500 fine for the 2002 "sex in a church" stunt that occurred during Opie and Anthony's now defunct NYC-based PM drive radio show. According to the NY Post, Infinity argues that the broadcast - as opposed to the act itself - had only "oblique references and innuendo" and, thus, wasn't "indecent" by FCC standards. The O&A stunt aired on about a dozen radio stations, including Infinity's WJFK-FM in the DC market....."

So they can just respectfully decline to pay a fine issued by the government?
I'll start to do that with Traffic Tickets. "Hey I was just going 5 miles an hour too fast, I didn't have sex in a church, officer!"

* The war in Iraq (and everything that came with it).
I hated whenever O & A came near anything remotely political because that's not why i listen to them. They should stick to things they can actually mock without looking like fools.
I definitely thought about Anthony when Bob Murphy was retiring. That was a genuine moment when I really wished O & A were back.

Ironically, the "Sex For Sam" schtick was about the only one that kinda worked in radio form. Everything else might as well have been dead air.
