So I'm at the Woodbridge Mall today and I go in the Sam Goody and I glance over to the "g" section in CDs and there's a plain white CD in the Peter Gabriel Section. Didn;t know it was out.
Sigh...
Someone who worked with him said Peter knows how to turn Forever into Eternity. While he has indeed put out a bunch of albums in the last decade, they have been mostly movie soundtracks or other stuff.
Sadly the Studio Albums Go like This:
peter gabriel [1977]
peter gabriel [1978]
peter gabriel [1980]
security [1982]
so [1986]
us [1992]
up [2002]
two live albums also, but come ON!!!!
That ten years just killed his career. 'Up' came and went, sadly. The live concert was fantastic, as usual, but...
Anyway, you young 'uns should know this guy once Owned MTV. Weird.
And for those who have forgotten just haow many Hits and Misses he's put out, here's the tracks. How many do you remember?
Solsbury Hill
Shock The Monkey
Sledgehammer
Don't Give Up
Games Without Frontiers
Big Time
Burn You Up, Burn You Down
Growing Up
Digging in the Dirt
Blood of Eden
More than This
Biko
Steam
Red Rain
Here Comes the Flood
San Jacinto
I Don't Remember
The Rhythm of the Heat
Love to be Loved
I Grieve
Family Snapshot
In Your Eyes
The Drop
The Tower that Ate People
Lovetown
Father, Son
Signal to Noise
Downside Up
Cloudless
PS: Hit? Miss? that's what each disc is called. Peter has a weird way with words. Just look at the title of his first three albums.

What's there to miss? The guy didn't put anything out for 10 years. His last album ("Us") was all over MTV. He ducked out practically at his peak. He did it to himself.

I concur. Can I add Phil Collins to the list just because I think he's a poof?

Biko - is another one of my alltime favorites...
it's one of them songs that when i 'heard it', i had to have it...
there seems to just a good handful of them in a lifetime...or half a lifetime, hopefully...

'zackly. That is to say, each's early work was brilliant and faded into poofery.

I love Peter Gabriel's music. I agree he's done it to himself, but I also think he demonstrates that he's in control of his career and is doing things the way that he wants to do them. I respect him for that.

I think you need to add "The Last Temptation of Christ" to the list of albums. Not the type of thing on a greatest hits comp., but sheer brilliance.

That's Amazing stuff!
I just listed the strictly studio 'song' album commercial releases. Of course, there also:
Peter Gabriel Plays Live
Secret World Live
Birdy Soundtrack [SO Amazing]
Last Temptation Soundtrack [i think it's called 'Passion'?]
and recently a film called 'The Rabbit proof Fence.
And there was old Pete singing 'That'll Do' from Babe: Pig In The City on the Oscars a couple years back. I forget if that won.
Anywho; I was listening to the Comp last night and it indeed kicks ass; and I forget who mentioned Biko above, but thats about Stephen Biko, killed in south africa. amazing story; gabriel was anti-apartheid before most people knew it friggin existed.

Yes, but he's the only one who can actually back it up.
