so i went out of town this weekend to visit somefriends, and my buddy happens to give me a cigar made in a little nation of the coast of flordia. i'm really not much of a cigar guy, but i do know the good from the bad.
i don't have anything proper to keep this thing in, so what kind of low-rent options do i have? my thinking is, keep it in the garage. it's chilly out and it's dry air. give it up.

I've heard you can create a make-shift humador by putting a damp paper towel in a zip lock bag in the bottom of a flat box, and rest the cigar on some straws to seperate the cigar and the bag.
But if you will only have this one cigar for a few weeks until you smoke it, slighty moist is the key man. Slightly moist. NOT WET. NOT DRY. Slightly moist. And not too cold man. I think the moisture in the cigar getting frozen and thawed in your garage would REALLY ruin it, and maybe grow some sort of mold.

death fucking metal moe is one sophisticated chap. yes, i'm thinking about holding on to it for a little while and some it for an occasion yet to be determined (maybe when the giants win)
would you reccomend putting it in the fridge then? i figured the garage wouldn't be as moist and less likely to mold.

I wouldn't recommend the fridge man. I have never heard of cold storage for them, so I wouldn't recommend it.
Room temp, slightly moist storage is the key.
I have a small humador, and it told me to keep the interior wood moist, and I have 2 small disks I soak in water ever few weeks. I have a humidity meter in there, and when it drops to below like 60% I soak the discs. They have that green shit in them that remids me of the base florits use for arrangements. It's styrafoam type shit that soaks up water.
TO be honest, I can't really think of a way to keep one cigar without going through a little bit of work to keep it.Maybe get a small box even if it's not flat like a cigar box and do the bag with the damp towel in it and the straws.

dude, you can pick up a small(holding about 3-4 cigars) cheap humador for $30. It's a good investment for the future.

Well if we're talking about spending as much as $30, then the humador I talked about was about that. It's got a nice cedar interior and can hold about 20-30 cigars. It came with one moisture disk thing and the humidity meter. All I had to do was get the water from the supermarket and the cigars obviously.
