I never understood the point of drinking whiskey. Even the really good stuff tastes like.. well, whiskey. Maybe I just don't have a fine enough palate, but I don't think that's something for which I want to acquire a taste.

i have this friend who drinks jack daniels straight. it's really gross. knowing this, he always feels the need to make me taste it. if i taste it and make a face that i don't like it, he'll say, "then you haven't had enough to drink." then he'll get me another.

i don't like whiskey.

I will usually reach for the Jack Daniels straight out of the bottle if I drink anything. Most alchohol tastes like ass anyway, so I go with the MOST ASS TASTING alchohol on Earth.

But I do have to say that Tullemore Dew was a GREAT Irish Whiskey, and I'd drink it in a second, if I still drank like I USED to drink.

I lived in Ireland for a summer when I was twelve.
We lived 10 miles from the Northern border (Bushmills is in Northern Ireland). I stayed on my Aunts turkey farm and they made me throw out the turkeys that died in the shipment from the hatching place to our place...but I digress

My Aunts took me and my cousins to Bushmills on a weekend and we went on the tour, it was fun. We got to see all the big metal distilleries (is that the right word?)and enjoyed a educatinal tour about the process of making whiskey that I have no recollection of. My Aunt let me have a sip of the free Bushmills we got at the end of the tour and I hated it.
Now I heart Bushmills.
My dad only drinks Irish whiskey
hes racist against all other whiskey

Real men know real absinthe has not been commercially available in about 75 years or something.

For me, my booze of choice is a god Armagnac .

And if you're going with the sour mash bourbon, fuck the hype and forget the Jack Daniels.
I prefer the Wild Turkey.

representing jameson through and through, but i got a bottle of johnnie j and a bottle of tulle dew for my bday. i filled my flask with some jameson, but lately, i've had half a rocks glass straight up filled with dew at all times.

i feel like a bit of a traitor, but the dew has been helping me keep a steady pace, whereas jj is a chugaton.

Bourbon.
And while Jack Daniels will always be the sentimental favorite, if your experience is limited to JD or Beam or Wild Turkey, you're really missing out.
Try some Baker's or Booker's or Woodford Reserve, or even the great 100-proof Knob Creek. (Or even JD's SIngle Barrel.) So smooth, so good...

As for Scotch, I can deal with a good single malt like Glenfiddich or Glenlivet, but the blended stuff like Dewars, Johnnie Walker, Chivas, and Crown Royal is just awful swill.

I end up shooting VO (very old) Canadian Whiskey. I hate it, but picked up the habit from my Dad. Anyway, I can't drink it straight out, I have to have like 8 beers in me before I can drink it. At the same time, it beats asking the bartender for some whack mixed shot.

McCallen or the Glenfiddich (sp) for scotch
jack daniels or makers mark for bourbon
I recently tried a bourbon called Basil Hayden that was good but overpriced

I have a video from the folks that make The Dalmore Scotch and it is hilarious in the reverent way they describe their product.
They work in "The Dalmore" into damned near every sentence, and the narrator says those 2 words different from the rest, as if the very words bring world shaking awe or something.
Right outta Monty Python.

For mix drinks I go with Jim Beam. In my personal opinion Jack Daniels is to Jim Beam like Playboy is to Penthouse. When you were a young kid Playboy was cool but as you got older you needed some of that lesbo stuff they have in Penthouse.

I'd rather do shots of Jamesons though.

The small batch bourbons made by Jim Beam ( Bookers, Basil Hayden's, Baker's, etcc ... ) are good but pricey.

Jacob's Well, another off shoot of Jim Beam, is pretty good as well. Cant find it in many places though.

Coincidenatlly here's a recent obituary my friend sent me :

DIED:
F. BOOKER NOE II, 74, former master distiller of Jim Beam bourbon; after a long illness; in Bardstown, Ky. A grandson of Jim Beam, who ran the family company from 1892 until 1944, Noe worked for almost 50 years at the distillery and in 1988 created Booker's Bourbon, an undiluted, unfiltered small-batch whiskey that helped establish a new market for bourbon, which had been left behind by the growing popularity of vodka and gin.

I have balls !!!
