I love it! When done correctly it is a beautiful thing to behold. One of my favorites is Matthew McConnaghey in Reign of Fire. He was just so over the top, it was great.

Well, this is an oldie but Cary Grant in "Arsenic and Old Lace" makes a young Robin Williams look sedate.

Chewing the scenery = really overt, grand over-acting. Some of my favorite examples:
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal (pun semi-intended)
Al Pacino as Satan in Devil's Advocate
Elfish as himself.

I am reminded this morning of all the villains from the Batman movies. Yes, even Ahhnold and Uma. While Jack probably gave the best overall performance, I think Jim Carrey's Riddler takes the cake for scenery chewingest. Come to think of it, in pretty much all of his movies he's chewing his ass off, the comedies anyway.
