The Real Homer Simpson?

So theres this show on FOX called The Simpsons-
I never really watched The Simpsons until a year or 2 ago.
I like that Homer guy. He shore plays the stoopid fool. The thing is, I just got finished watching the first season. It wasnt even the real Homer. It looked really really bad.. Sounded worse.. and it just sucked.
When did they make the change?
Does ANYONE like the original Homer?
I was so bummed.
most shows suck as time goes on.
The Simpsons have gotton way better.
I like shampoo. Shampoo beats conditioner.

Years ago I read an interview with Matt Groening. He said they were getting a lot of heat and negative attention from teachers and parents, etc because of Bart being an underachiever (and proud of it). Plus the ratings weren't good. So they intentionally changed Homer and made him stupider and stupider and focused the show more on him and less on Bart. Ratings went up and the rest is history.

The art style changed between seasons one and two a bit and then there's sort of a gradual change in the design until season 3, when they pretty much hit their stride story-wise and art-wise.

Yeah, around 3-4 season is when the characters began to look like what we see today.

But, the animation used to be so much better. Too computerized now,

It is weird going back and watching the old ones but I STILL remember laying there on the couch watching them when they were on Tracey Ullman. Those FOX Thursday nights were truly great!

Aye! Thursday really hit it's stride after Herman's HEad and In Living Color were added. There was that bad time between 8:30 and 9:00 when The Sinbad Show was on. ERGH! Thank goodness for Wings on NBC.

Being a cartoonist I like watching the progression through the years. Remember the early Garfield? Man that was so odd looking and I always had a hard time with those cause I didn't get into Garfield until the 3rd book when he was pretty much established how he is now. I stumbled across some of my old drawing the other day and it dawns on me that over time styles do change drastically. Hell, I'm not even famous yet!

But it was still funnier than literally every other sitcom on now, in the last three years, or in the NEXT three years.
