there were 5 jaws.
4 lethal weapons, and they're now making a 4th indiana jones. So that cuts down on your list.

Well, even though I'm not mad at it, I won't say the matrix.

I'd go with the original star wars trilogy as the best.

Since the last one hasn't come out yet, I can't say the lord of the rings, but how could they mess that trilogy up?

I can say The Lord of the Rings becasue I read the 3 books twice, and the Hobbit a few times too.

None of those series have anything more than two truly good or great films.

Trilogies are clearly NEVER a good idea. Stick with one sequel, at the most.

Lord of the Ring and Indiana Jones are the best trilogy, but I would have like to see a TNG movie trilogy, and I think that would have occurred if Star Trek: Nemesis was a success.

I would imagine L.O.T.R. will be.

I stare at my DVD Box set and lament that The Godfather Part III had the potential to create a great trilogy. Instead I am left with two near prefect Orlovs and one lame pony with an infected prepuce. These three films cannot be harnessed to make a great troika.

Therefore I shall proclaim my Holy Trilogy as the collective output of one genius: Terrence Malick's: Badlands, Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line.

Badlands is his feral but perfect Mustang, Days of Heaven his Morab and TTRL is the Friesan.

He is not a fecund Sire. But Mr. Malick is the Justin Morgan of film, a stallion of such prepotent genius that his progeny trump any proper trilogy.

Mr. Malick: Yu Holem Hand Blong Mi.

Back to the Future, and if LOTR: The Return of The King is just as good as the previous two which I'm sure it will be, than I'll also say LOTR.

You're right, but come on didn't you like the way I incorporated horse metaphor with T.M.?

But I've actually given this a little thought.

So I now vote:Krzysztof Kieslowski's Three Colors trilogy

im gonna go with Star Wars...until Return of the King comes out...i mean...RotJ had a lot of possibility to make this a FLAWLESS trilogy...considering it did easily produce the greatest sequel of all time.

I will not go quietly into the nite...

It has always been the Star Wars Trilogy for me. Next is the Indiana Jones Trilogy (just got recently on DVD) but Lord of The Rings could be my #2 favorite after Return of the King comes out. Still Star Wars will always be my favorite.

The Lord Of The Ring trilogy will probably end up being a favorite, but I do love the original Star Wars. Indiana Jones is great as well. And Mad Max!

But here is one that wasn't mentioned: Die Hard. Say what you will about the 2nd & 3rd, nowhere near the quality of the first, but I like the John McClaine character. As Homer wrote, "Dear Die Hard, you rock!"

good point

i think AJ is right. the speggetti westerns is a good pick

and indiana jones can no longer be called a trilogy. that's like calling Rocky a trilogy.

and i don't consider evil dead a trilogy, because evil dead II was basicly evil dead I.

Well as long as we are all saying what is and isn't a trilogy I think we are running out of them.

Indiana Jones - New 4th movie that's going to be made

Star Wars - Some call it the original trilogy but still Star Wars is technically 6 movies

Jaws - There were 4 Jaws I believe, the 4th was called Jaws the Revenge

Lethal Weapon is up to 4th movie.

Die Hard - I think Bruce Willis is going to come back for a 4th. I forget where I heard that.

Star Trek - C'mon they are on 10 of those already even those its 2 different crews.

So the movies we are left with are:
The Matrix
Lord of the Rings (Although they should come out with the Hobbit)
Godfather
Austin Powers (Although Mike Meyers stated he would keep making these movies)
Back to the Future

"Evil Dead II" IS the "real" sequel to the first one.

Basically Raimi and co. couldn't get the rights to their own film to use any footage from the first one to recap at the beginning of the second, so they condensed everything that happened into about 20 minutes and made it that only Ash and his girlfriend were the ones at the cabin. Remember how the first one ends with the "evil force" rushing at Ash? When that scene happens again in II, that's where the sequel "officially" begins.
