Well....

Get EVERYTHING! Ok, well for starters, go with the new one, As The Palaces Burn. This is phenominal from start to finish. Their first one, New American Gospel is really fucking good also but you have to get past the production and Randy's vocals which are really brash. You can access their website at http://www.lamb-of-god.com.

I mean what else can I say about this band? They are from Richmond, VA and began their early career as Burn The Priest. They have a CD out under that name. They are currently on tour with Shadow's Fall and Killswitch Engage. I caught the show in Philly and will probably go again when it hits Sayreville, NJ later this month. They are the first band in a long LONG time that makes me want to throw out my Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera and Metallica because it just makes them all look so weak. No offense to those guys but it just does. In many metal circles LOG are referred to as the MIGHTY Lamb of God. They just got signed to Epic records if that is a sign of anything to come and a really good band being noticed.

Songs of note besides the three videos on Headbangers Ball (Black Label, Ruin, 11th Hour) are As The Palaces Burn, Vigil, Boot Scraper, Warning, Terror and Hubris in the House of Frank Polard and Confessional.

These are the respective album covers:

This is one of those bands that will hit you a different way whenever you listen. My first listen was at a BBQ at my firends house. As I sat there eating Tandoori Chicken, LOG kept playing and playing. It sunk in and I bought it the next day after a cancelled Unhallowed show. The album sunk in a LOT after that and to be honest, it has never left my car or my home player. I had to get copies for home as well as work. It is one of those band who have albums that you just ant to buy again becasue it/they are so fucking good. I saw LOG in Baltimore in July and it damn near killed me. Just fucking amazing and a really tight band onstage. Being into metal for as long as I have, it is so refreshing to have a band do it all for me int he span of 40 minutes. I really havent heard anything this cruhing since the days of Vulgar Display of Power. This whole new breed of metal is really brnging metal back and I couldn't be happier.

Enjoy!

Oh yeah for fans of the afformentioned Pantera, Diamond Darrell and Vinne Paul will be releasing Damage Plan (http://www.damageplan.com) at the end of January. This sounds really good!

You know, I hate labels. I wouldn't all them death metal although they have elements of it in their music. If you saw the video for Ruin or 11th Hour that is what they sound like. You really have to listen for yourself, erase any kind of labels you may have and just listen.

There are riffs.

You will bang your head.

Undeniably METAL!

Fluff, I have a much easier time labeling it Death Metal then you do. I listened to Black Label, Magics and New American Gos. I'm sure that last one isnt the full title but thats what it says. Most Death Metal sounds the same to me. The one and only Death metal Band I think has truely a different sound then all others is "Pungent Stench". Theyre Australian.

Pungent Stench. Man, I have not listened to then in years. Been Caught Buttering was pretty good and raw. I got the Video Le Muerte and that was some pretty sick shit.

I believe Tesla had a song called "Call It What You Want". Referring to anything that rocks my ass it is all music to me.

Metal and music in general has become so much of a mish mosh of so many things these days it is so had to label.

Yes Pantera, The lyrics are quite hard to understand and it does sound like Randy is choking on sandpaper but after just a quick read through off of the liner sheet you catch on pretty quick.

I have to admit that Lamb of God is OK, but not mind blowing in my opinion.

And yes, a lot of Death Metal does sound the same. But no more so than any other type of music in my opinion. There are good bands and bad bands.

Oh, and Pungent Stench DESTROY! PITBULL MOTHERFUCKING JACK 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I am out of the loop on this, since wsou went "blink".

For me it is still Slayer, Danzig, Prong...

and what I believe to be the first D_M song (Sabbath not withstanding)

Beyond the Realms of Death... Judas Priest.

Judas Priest and Sabbath are about as Death metal as Elvis.

O contraire! (sp)

The roots are there by far. All good things start out so much more differently than what they seem. Without the likes of Priest and Sabbath there never would have been a Venom or Mercyful Fate which in turn would have neve spawned off the Slayers and the Death's which would have never spawned off so many others. Moe, help me here. We need a Death Metal Tree!

The Metal roots can go as far back as the 1st time a man took up a musical instrument in anger.

But we can track the "Hard Music" of the dacades through shit from as far back as The Beatles if you want to get trippy and pesudo-intellectual.

I say, angry, dark, hard metal sounding music began with Black Sabbath. Tony is a guitar GOD. He already wrote every good riff. We're all just picking up the crumbs off his table.

I wish I had the want or time to do a Metal Tree.

i think you can say that Sabbath was the first "witchcraft/warlock" band but there were other "Heavy Metalisque" bands before them who used heavy distortion, speed drumming, etc... Cream, Hendrix, and yes(don't fall over) Grand Funk...

I understand that many forms of music have had fast, heavy and dark parts before Sabbath, but everyone wants a starting point, or a musical "spring" it came from so to speak, so I say Sabbath. They're one of the 1st to bring them all together, and do it well all the time.

Amen!

It will no doubt be a pissing match as to who the first metal band was. No doubt that Grand Funk was beyond heavy with its AMAZING first album. You could even say Blue Cheer. No one though combined (thanks Moe) everything together as well or as perfect as Sabbath did.

Speaking of which I call for the ultimate HEAVY trilogy of:

Grand Funk
Blue Cheer - Outside/Inside
Black Sabbath
