Was wondering if anyone had heard about this project... it's an all-star concert featuring the music of George Harrison from last year, with songs from the Beatles, Harrison's solo career, and the Wlburys, along with other great songs.
It features Clapton, Tom Petty, McCartney, Ringo Starr, and a bunch of others.
It's even got Monty Python on it!

Description: Exceptionally moving but not the least bit sentimental, Concert for George is a splendid tribute to the late George Harrison, whose contributions to the Beatles were so often hidden in the long shadows of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. A year to the day after Harrison's November 29, 2001 death, Eric Clapton assembled some musicians--people who had played with Harrison and known him intimately, including McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Tom Petty--to perform his music at London's Royal Albert Hall. They take on not just the predictable ("My Sweet Lord" and "Something," beautifully sung by Billy Preston and Sir Paul, respectively), but also lesser-known fare like "Old Brown Shoe" and "Beware of Darkness," all to superbly empathetic effect. But the tune most likely to make you misty-eyed is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," which brings together three of the five musicians who played on the original recording: Ringo on drums, Clapton replicating his own classic solo, and McCartney playing piano and harmonizing with Clapton's lead vocal. Wish you were here, George--but man, what a way to be missed. --Sam Graham

Am I the only one who thought the mostly accoustic version that showed up on the "Anthology" collection was MUCH better than the "official" version that has Clapton's electric wankery all over it?

I thought it was FAR better than The White Album version. AND -- it has additional lyrics.
There are several "Anthology versions" I thought were better than the final cuts. The best examples: "I'm Looking Through You" and "Ob La Di, Ob La Da".

It's scary how much George's kid looks like him.
I was watching the screener... it's SICK. Same exact mop top haircut.
Also, watching this, I'm glad to see EVERYONE dressed up for this, except Clapton.
The Python bits are funny.

'Concert For George' Cd & Dvd Out Tomorrow
Tomorrow (Tuesday, November 18th) will see the release of Concert For George, the CD and DVD taken from the George Harrison memorial concert at London's Royal Albert Hall last November 29th. The show, which was held on the first anniversary of Harrison's death, featured performances from Eric Clapton, Electric Light Orchestra leader Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Harrison's Beatles mates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, and many others.
Among the bonuses on the DVD are interviews with some of the musicians. In one, Starr said everybody on the bill that night had a great time: "It was just a great jam. I don't know of anyone that it wasn't a good experience for. It was, everybody was doing it for a very good reason -- that they knew and loved George, and George knew them."
