You can't go dissin' a classic like the PB&J.

...a nice MLT- mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, when the mutton is nice and lean, and the tomato is ripe. They're so perky. I love that.

I started this thread in hopes of getting some inventive ideas. Now I don't know how long the concept of making hot Italian style sandwiches on garlic bread has been around for but it sounded tasty enough to try out for the usual Sunday party at my place for football and movies. I used it for meatball parm and chicken parm II's and they were both were huge successes! The only thing I added was roasting the garlic before fusing it with the butter/spread. Next week will be roast beef on garlic bread and horseradish cheddar. Thanks!

imported proscioutto, sliced sharp chunk provolone, and sundried tomatoes marinated in olive oil and garlic on fresh semolina...

or

replace proscioutto with fresh 'fried/breaded eggplant "

once in a while the plain o'l liverwurst and swiss on whole wheat with a little mayo, salt and pepper, and raw onion hits the spot...

the white trashiest sandwich i ever ate was when I had two pieces of Peppridge Farm Texas Toast and a chicken cutlet, so i threw them together and tried to call that dinner. That's one of the lowest moments in my life. :)

damn steels, is that your own recipe or something you got at a deli? sounds good.

you're fist post pretty much is the best i've had, though substituting a grilled chicken breast for prosciutto.

you can find that sandwich at most good delis, but it's great ones that have a real different menu. last one i had was in college. how about this:

breakfast grilled cheese
-2 fried eggs
-squared hash browns (sisco or something mass produced)
-bacon
-yellow american cheese (melted perfectly to keep sandwich together)
-2 slices of buttered wheat bread
-prepared on a greesy griddle-
get it take out. wrapped in tinfoil, and will never fall part with the little extra cooking it gets by the time you get it home

My father always made me grilled cheese's with dashes of Worcestershire since I was a kid. When I first went to college I worked the cafeteria grill and a lot of people ordered grilled cheese sandwiches with a tomato slice and bacon giving me that idea. Years later I changed the type of cheese to cheddar and there ya go. Usually people would look at me like I was a nut when suggesting the Worcestershire sauce on top but usually ended up loving it after they tried. It sounds odd but try it the flavors work so well together.

balsamic vinegar would be a pretty good subsititute, though worcestershire sause isn't nearly used enough.

I like the way you think. Coincidentally I have recently been thinking about picking up a fine bottle of balsamic vinegar after I seen a special on "Food Network".

I likes to take some of last night's New York Strip that I expertly cooked over hardwood on my grill, medium rare.
For a lil' heat, a coupla leedle blobs of harissa.
I puts that on some grain bread with a thin layer of mayo, smoked provolone, some-a my organically grown spinach, lettuce and tomata.
I'll throw in some grilled mushrooms, onions and orange bell peppers that I've grown.
Over that goes jest a bit of medium salsa for zing.
BITCHIN'!
