My company sucks big hairy monkey balls. I transferred to our NJ office back in March and was supposed to get a raise (after they gave us all 10% paycuts). This actually didn't go into effect until last month. Before it went through, my boss, who is really great, was padding my overtime. I know find out that since I got my measly raise, I'm no longer entitled to overtime. I didn't realize I was rolling in the dough here. I'm now making a little less than I was with the 10% cut and additional overtime. The sad thing is that there are people who've been here for 10-15 years, haven't gotten a raise in at least 7, and make way less than I do. I need out.

Sounds like you need a change. I say quit. I know the job market sucks right now, but you'll find something. You gotta do what will make you happy and this doesnt sound like it is.

Thanks to Reefdwella for the great Sig Pic.

Jenn, I sympthathize....My job is not that great either.

You might want to consider a headhunter...they do not get paid until they find you a job. So you could still work, find a better job and then not have to worry about shilling the money out while you make it. I know your boss will understand your need to get a better job or better pay. From what you have told me about her she is very kewl and understanding towards you and the rest of your co-workers.

Either way I wish you alot of luck kiddo. Keep your chin up.

Tru dat Tall James.

I left my job a year ago (in mist of a promotion) and fortunately for me I had some money saved up to just chill. But once it began to dwindle, I started to look for a job again but got no replies back. Lucky for me, my old supervisor (who left the agency before I left) inquired if I would be interested in helping her out start up a new team they just took over. I jumped at it although I played it off- "I wouldn't come out of retirement for anyone else". I'm pretty much doing what I did at my old job but it's in a different county. The only thing that sucks is the commute.
I could have gone back anytime to my old job but I just got fed up with the atmosphere even though my team mates are like family to me (I have a picture of them on my desk). I'm sure when they see me, they'll rub it in and say "What up Benedict Arnold". But it's all good.

thanks, guys.

my company has also been going through major changes in the last couple of years. Last year they laid of aobut 30 people or so, and this year they just laid off another 30, 3 of which were working for me. they're pretty much moving everything to our Iowa office. our owner is some political figure out there. they told the rest of us that our jobs were safe and that they were finished with layoffs. i know they're full of it. i do have an incredibly awesome boss, she's almost like a second mother. and i know my vp has taken me under her wings, which says a lot, because most people think she's a major hard ass and are intimidated by her. when and if i do get laid off, i know i'll get a decent package. and my boss has set me up to work from home, gives me tons of comp days off and really does value me. i dont want to leave this place and work for another company. im just trying to figure out what i want to be when i grow up. good thing i went to college, huh?
anyway, the thing that bothers me the most is that i finally got this much anticipated raise the very next day they laid off half my office. it's very hard to be happy about getting it under those circumstances.

Jenn, in my company they are doing the same shit. It really sucks, but the way things are going, we are all replaceable cogs to their corporate machine, and while I have an innate loyalty and old fashioned work ethic, Im becoming increasingly jaded with this new corporate trend. I think, unfortunatly, gone are the days of getting a good job in a company and riding it out for life. It sucks. I see that call centers are moving out of areas like where we live and reloacting in Iowa or something where the cost of livings cheaper or even India or the Philippines of all places!

I feel the same way. The problem for me is, I feel like an actor who has been typecast. I've been doing the same thing for so long that my options are limited.

Jenn, I totally hear ya on this one. My job is complete and utter bullshit. Anytime I apply for any kind of promotion they tell me I'm not qualified for it but once I send them enough proof I come in and wreak havok on the "pre employment tests". I work for a local government which is unionized so you can only imagine the bullshit here. They've doubled my workload and not increased my payrate. I'm working (and doing well) on assignments that are WAY above the level that someone in my position should be doing and to add salt to teh wound, my friend Anthony just got hired here about a year ago (full time) and he is already making more money than me, but we do the same job and they wont reclassify me to his position title. Rar. (Its not sexism, its just retardation amongst mgmt)

I put my resume out to DOZENS of companys even contemplating paycuts for postitions I was certainly qualified for and its been 2 months and still not a peep from anyone. I've given up holding my breath. Just wish I had some savings so I could quit w/out being completely broke.

Jenn,

That does suck alot.

It's hard when you like your job and the people, but you feel like the Corp Machine is trying to fuck you hard...which might just be the case.

Just hang in there. Good things do happen.

I hated my job, was miserable, paid shit and was expected to work overtime constantly they even asked me to come in on Saturdays.....
UGH.

But I stuck with it and eventually found my way out to something that I dont mind doing extra work for.

I think it is just timing and puttingin hard work.

Good luck I wish you the best.

I think things will turn around for you though...it seems alot of the shot callers there like you and know you are a value.

Wow...so it's been a pretty interesting week for me at work. On Tuesday I was told they were going to increase my raise by another $2500, which I was pretty much satisfied with. Then this morning the VP pulls me into her office and tells me she has one last bit of good news...that they're adding another $2000 to my raise. So I just got a $7000 raise, which is unheard of at this place. Most people here have gone 5 years without any kind of raise. Go me! So I still hate my job, but at least now I can grin and bear it a little bit more.

I was promoted over a month ago and still haven't seen any change in my paychecks. And now I'm told I cannot bug the HR woman who handles the payroll because her brother is sick in the hospital.

You know what, I'm sorry your brother is in the hospital, but none of my personal issues effect your job. Plus there are a dozen other people in your department who can handle it.

Bullshit.

But good for your Jenn, that is one nice raise!

I'll never regret working in construction.

I've been working now for 10 years and consistently have had dramatic increases in pay every 3 or so years.

The last two years have been shitty for anyone that works, and I had to take a paycut to work for the company I'm at now. However, I'm already looking at being above and beyond the paycut I took in about 1 1/2 years.
