There's no doubt that these guys are THE most overrated band in my short lifetime...but that being said, I still have enjoyed both of their albums tremendously. Nowhere NEAR being as good as the press would have you believe, but better than a good 95% of the sonic dung being chucked at us on a near-daily basis.

i thought their first album was great. very derivative, but if you're gonna be derivative be derivative of great bands. ok so they were so derivative they would have been like the official band of orange county, california circa 1994.

but the band that keeps getting better, like better than to GTO in the phillips commercial, getting better all the time is the white stripes. behind that base (less) red and white they rock. their album elephant is one of my favorites of the year.

you know it's tricky to speculate on bands. all you stroke-o-phobes, what do you like? probably the shit that mojo references, that generic non interest bearing crap. you know who's stock is going to blow up like nitro (without getting anything stuck in its windpipe slow? my morning jacket, kings of leon and the amazing ebay when pierre o. was still an undergrad in my class at tufts (the jumbos=elephant i tied that in nicely)...drive by truckers. you listen to me the dbt's are no flash in the pan. are they derivative too? well um, yeah i would guess and i imagine you would hate them if you don't like great live bands fronted by three guitarists and who have a stellar double album out called that is a HOMAGE see i pushed the shift key to lynerd skynerd (you have trouble spelling that then just remember ly and sky and add nerd at the end of them. and their new album is awesome and has the best song of the year on it. Sounds like the best stones song you never heard.

I took the statement "I like the new Strokes album" structured that around a recursive temporal spiral, overlaying an archetypally-driven consciousness matrix. See I was on a matrix kick yesterday.

So my post started out with a linear declarative about the Strokes and I applied phenomenology/holism as opposed to the other reductionist posts.

I actually received 4 IM's/PM's yesterday from people (apparently insomniacs too) who told me they read the Board and don't post and understood exactly what I was doing and liked it. Trailing on my other post, we discussed quantum reality theory and cyborg anthropology, which, again relates to issues raised in The Matrix.

The only thing I regret is that the weather was lousy this am so there wasn't enough sunrise. it wasn't enough.
