OK I have a few problem.

1) The top of my monitor keeps going up and down up and down. It's been happening for awhile now, so I put in a new video card and it stopped for a day. Now it's back to flashing up and down again.

2) Is there anyway I can speed up my processor? I have a pentium 4. Maybe I need to download an update? I havent updated it since I got this computer about 2 years ago.

3) Anything else that will enhance my computer for online gaming would be cool!!

In answer to 1. it sounds like a short in the cable to the monitor is causing the problem on the display at the top of the screen. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the cable. The cable I'm talking about is the one that runs from the back of the monitor to the pc in the video port.
I believe this is the case since you've replaced the videocard and the problem is still occuring. The only other thing I can think of that could cause it would be if there was some sort of object or device that is magnetized. If something like stereo speakers or anything giving off frequencies is very close to the monitor it can display problems similar to what you're talking about as well. But I've only seen that on a few monitors. Is this a new monitor?

For question #2, Intel's website has updates and patches for processors, chips, motherboards, etc on their website (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Support_Intel.aspx)

Question #3, how much memory does your computer have?

wow I know next to Zero but have you:

-cleared out all your temporary internet files?

-cleared out your cookies?

-cleared out your Internet Online History?

-done a disc cleanup after the above?

-done a defrag?

As for RAM? I am finding256MB un-usable and even 512MB isnt enough anymore. 1 Gig RAM and a 2.8 GHz P4 processor and some big games still take their sweet ole time, so someone else is gonna have to help ya there...

Top of the monitor keeps going up and down? Sounds like it's got a bad spirit in it. Call an Exorcist maybe? Problem is once, I didn't pay my Exorcist his bill, and I got re-posessed.

Enjoy the Turnips.

I think Reefy covered the important points. For gaming, check your ram, and see if you can close any unused processes. Any program that you're not currently using should be closed. Run adaware/spybot to get those pesky ones you don't know about. Disable things like real, quicktime, office, etc. from starting at boot up.

A disk check and defrag will not give you a noticable boost, but it can't hurt.

Wow, reef covered EVERYTHING I was going to say. Anyway, there's a second opinion, Pants.

The only bitch about monitor cables is that they are attached to the monitor, so you'd probably have to cut it somehow to replace it, or send it back to the manufacturer (check to see if you have a warranty and how long it lasts).

Your database is a disaster.

You're waxin' your modem to try to make it go faster.

Hey Fella, I bet you're still livin' in your parent's cellar, downloading pictures of Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Like everyone said, make sure you have enough ram.

To seriously improve your gaming performance you'd have to spend money. Look on pricewatch for an additional 512 megs of ram or maybe even a new video card for a little over a 100.

If not, clean out your computer and do everything mentioned by the others.
