I know. The only way it could have been a bigger let down is if they said "From the guys who butchered Godzilla!"

I mean yeah, this looks really fucking cool and all but after the many real life tragedies that have been seen over the years why is there such an interest in seeing what it would look like to see really bad shit happen like in these movies and television shows.
I mean maybe I am just thinking too much here.
There was shit like The Towering Inferno and Earthquake and That's Armageddeon so who knows. It does look pretty cool seeing Capitol Records get laid to waste and NYC covered in snow.
There was the powerful seen of the rubble of NYC in Planet of the Apes. There were films about the martian scare back in the 40's and 50's. Maybe we as humans even though we have seen some pretty awful shit are just lusting to know what things may look like one day. Maybe that is how images of deatha nd destruction get stuck in our heads about cetain things. Kind of makes you think about shit.
Don't mind me though, I am just rambling.

I mean on such a large scale as this looks I could pass it off as very sci-fi. When it comes to 24 or stuff like that, I can't get into it cause shit like that could really happen and I get really freaked out. Like it is too realistic. I am getting closer to 28 Days Later though casue I heard it was really good and am trying to convince myself that "It's just a movie". The doom and glom "reality" of TV when I was a kid used to seriously scare the shit out of me really bad. Because I was an Emergency! fan and from reading an article about an 8 year old boy who was trapped in his home and suffered burns over 80% of his body I had some serious metal issues and bad dreams about fire. Relly fucked up shit. I guess those kind of things scar you though for life I guess.
Back to the forthcoming movie, I never saw Independence Day. How was it? Seriously.

this is a time when I wish a trailer revealed more. It might be stupid, but I can't see a movie that I really know nothing about. I know that the earth will be hit by a bunch of storms, but as far as the actual plot of the movie, i'm puzzled. Cool ass special effects though.

Bump!
I'm psyched to see this movie. I love reading about wild weather and how the earth is changing. Although the events in this movie usually take decades to hundreds of years to transpire... hell, I'll take 'em all in a week!

My prediction:
it will sooo suck. There is no way it can't. Big summer crap fest with bad dialogue, bad acting, bad writing, implausible scenarios, and a load of other bullshit.
I guess the only question is if I'm seeing it only once or will I see it twice? FX rawk!!!!

Anyone see it?
I did and I'd give it a "B" average.
Special effects were awesome. Especially the twisters in L.A.
The plot was predictable and some bad storylines, but it was to be expected.
Excellent jab at the White House.

I saw it. I'd also give it a B grade. Definatley a stab at the white houses ethics. Talking about how they view 3rd world countries. Also somebody who is a big time enriomentalist was behind this movie. Other than that, the ending of the movie was slow but still a good see.

All I can say is, thank god at least enough people came to their senses this weekend and realized that Shrek 2 is a better film than this overblown piece of shit. When has Roland Emmerich EVER made a good film? No one say Independence Day either.
Excellent jab at the White House.
You know, I'm glad someone brought this up, because that was the saddest thing about this whole film - some people (okay, primarily Al Gore) are using this film to slam Bush's environmental policies.
Irregardless of the fact that it is scientifically impossible for the events of the film to ever occur in real life like they did in the film.
"Well, it's a work of fiction......but it COULD happen thanks to Bush's policies!"
Sad. You just gotta shake your head.

it was a "B-" movie at best..special effects were fantastic, but a lot of the movie was complete horse shit.. like closing a door is going to block out -120 degree air from coming in while the chimney is still open... this movie really could of used randy quaid too...

i'll wait til it comes out on video...
This thread reminded me of the fascinating Scott Expedition to the South Pole... They had to walk back 800 miles in -40 degree temperature after reaching the South Pole after they discovered the Norwegians got there 21 days before. Plus they had to drag their own sleds, up plateaus and down while the conditions made it as if they were dragging the sled through sand...
for some reason i cannot get over this predicament they put themselves in...
sorry...

Actually, they've been "jabbing" the fact that Bush told his administration to officially not comment on this film and the issues that it might bring it up, which is what's REALLY sad to me. Why? Hey, I can't help but get a little choked up when an American president is honestly afraid the "tough questions" are going to be birthed from this over-the-top, fake as balls piece of cinematic dung.

Using the film to slam Bush's environmental policies is over the top because the movie is. It's just a film.
I thought the excellent jab was when the President asked the Vice President "What do you think we should do." That got a huge laugh.
Meanwhile, I'm starting a campaign to eradicate all White Oleander flowers. Apparently they are quite deadly.

Exactly. Why would anybody honestly fear that an overblown shitfest of a movie would expose them on any policy issue?
I saw this movie and that portion of it was the only section that made me smile in ANY way. What a turd this thing was.

I wouldn't place too much stock in Emmerich's "scathing political commentary," Bush fans...remember, this is the guy that thought naming the mayor of NYC and his chief of staff "Ebert and Siskel" in "Godzilla" was the height of wit and hilarity...

Do animals get caught up in wind in this one? 'Cause in Twister there was this great scene when a cow got thrown up in the air by the storm. Shit, man, I gotta tell ya, I love it when the animals get thrown in the air by wind. Shit. It's probably fun for them. They probably think it's some kind of ride. Shit. They're so not as smart as us.

saw it last night after smoking an el to face, so i might be a little spotty recalling it. but the movie was okay. the effects were pretty, the story was pointless. cliche to the point of laughability. if i were to watch it again, id leave right after LA gets fucked up. i always laugh when shit happens to LA. goddamn west coast.

Review: The Day After Tomorrow
http://www.browntownjohnny.com/modules.php?name=MReviews&op=show&rid=127
The trailer for "The Day After Tomorrow" gives it all away, so what else is new...not much. Why did I like it then? Because it was all that I expected and it's fine film making, but it's not much of anything. A throwaway retread of the great films of yesteryear (50's George Pal product, 70's Irwin Allen) as done by "Mr. Blow-Up The Whitehouse" himself..Roland Emmerich. "The Patriot" was fine and "Godzilla" was shit on a white rug, and Independence Day was pure junk entertainment. "TDAT" is somewhere in the middle, a big-ass eco-apocalypse adventure film with stellar F/X and a third rate script.
Starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhall, the story of the end of the world do to global warming and the trigger for an instant ice-age. Opening scene at the south pole gives us an insight to the rest of the movie, Jack Hall (Quaid) is the hero climatologist who sees the ice caps melting away. HE warns the Vice President (Dick Cheney clone Ken Welsh) that something is coming soon, and shrugged off. Then the fun begins with hailstones the size of canned hams, tornados in Hollywood, 150below in the UK, tidal wave in NYC! Zowie!
Emmerich does the job better than most, and the movie is intentionally funny (Fox News in LA need to film outside in a tornado!) and hopelessly dopey (a bald cancer kid reading Peter Pan). Throw in some wild hungry wolves in Manhattan (CGI pack) for thrills. The flood and freezing of The Apple is harrowing and first-rate, the destruction of LA is hilarious. In-joke about Cheney-Bush (Perry King is the dim bulb Prez) and Ian Holm is the kindly wise "Little Old Man". Gyllenhall is his "Donnie Darko" best and Quaid is there for billing. Must see in the theaters, will lose it's grandeur on TV-DVD. Passable Popcorn Flick.
