I don't know, I am still thinking that the whole thing was based on a false assumption. After all, we all know that there really is no such thing as a "Great Pumpkin". It does not even appear in any Halloween lore. It is a made up thing by Charles Schultz - for his own purposes. Think of my analogy, and you will see the full picture of what I am trying to get across:

1. The whole assumption of a "Great Pumpkin" was wrong. It seems that some outside force took the time to convince Linus of this. But it was not true. It was never true. It was a fake thing all along.

2. Linus himself is a character. He is not real. He is made-up. And we enjoy Linus generally, despite the idiosyncracies of his thumb and blanket, and of course here with his notion of a "Great Pumpkin". So, I would suggest we give him a little slack - he is not to be held at every blessed word he says, as if we are judging him. After all, he means well and is essentially harmless.

3. There are other characters in the story. Some are not that nice. Peppermint Patty comes to mind as one who is not completely nice, as well as the teacher. Forget about pumpkins, there are also apples in life, and some bad ones, reeshgrettably. Why let those people act out their own agenda, pursuing their own vendettas, using their power to negatively affect other people?

(anyone here can make me a nice sig pic?)

Corpustle...is that Latin for "BunnyLuvsThem"?

Do the latin have a word for banned?

And I will not have him hijack my thread. I love Charles Schultz' works and I sat through the Great Pumpkin again this year. There's something so pure and innocent and fun about the Peanuts gang.

Corpustle, eat me.

Yes I watched it, yes I enjoyed it, yes it's meant for children. But sometimes you just have to enjoy the innocence.

I'm surprised that he didn't say that Charles Schultz was a rapist.

Way back in the stone age when i was young, wasnt the Great Pumpkin special always hosted by Hostess Cream Pies or Something?

Because I remember that, and also once in a commercial, they had an empty shopping cart going all by itself down an aisle and Hostess Pies were going into it, and it scared the living shit out of me, and I was scared...sniffle... and now i'm scared...and it tastes like metal....

"SNOPPY COME HOME" THIS IS THE SADDEST CARTOON I EVER SAW IN MY LIFE...

Oh you are not alone. When I watch them today, I see, and remember, how sad the sad parts really were. Which one has Charlie Brown walking around a city all dejected without Snoopy? Some of the background Landscape art is positively Bosch-like, many of the skies terrifying, and the slow, sad jazz they play with that solo sax [oboe? some reed]? It slays me. It's really very disturbing sometimes.

Also, in the Christmas Special, when Linus stops everyone dead with his story of the birth of Baby Jesus?

There are a few Peanuts specials that don't make it on air anymore, like It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown. There is one a friend of mine has on tape where the premise is they introduce a new kid and kill him off to teach kids about death. I don't remember what the name of it is.

I actually miss that pre-cursor to the "special:"

"The spinning rainbow-hued word SPECIAL backed by the attention-getting music" spot.

Those of you born before 1974 know what I'm talking about.

It was a CBS thang.

I used to love watching the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown specials every year as a kid. Anytime cartoons were on in primetime was great. But the Charlie Brown specials were always the best.

Hey, I remember the spinning logo, and I was born in 1979.

It usually meant I could stay up and watch TV that I was normally in bed for. SCORE!

I remember that CBS logo too ALice. That brings back memories.

I always felt sad when that poor little Christmas tree just slumped over. If that isn't a baroque moment in cartoon history...

Ironically, the first movie I ever saw was "Race for your life,Charlie Brown". It was double featured with Rocky I. Now I feel very old.

See Ya!
