LOS ANGELES - Rod Roddy, the flamboyantly dressed announcer on "The Price is Right" whose booming, jovial voice invited lucky audience members to "Come on down!" for nearly 20 years, died Monday. He was 66.
Roddy, who suffered from colon and breast cancer (news - web sites), died at Century City Hospital, according to his longtime agent, Don Pitts. He had been hospitalized for two months.
"He had such a strong spirit. He just wouldn't give up," Pitts said Monday. Roddy had been ill for more than two years but tried to work as long as he could, said Bob Barker, host of "The Price is Right." Roddy had been with the game show for 17 years.
"The courage he showed during those difficult times was an inspiration to us all," Barker said in a statement Monday. Barker recounted a recent visit to his friend: "I went to the hospital and sat on the edge of his bed and we laughed the whole time we were talking. He was still having fun." Yahoo! How long before some tasteless cartoonist has the caption "Come on Down!" coming out of an open grave?
Oh Rod, we hardly knew ye.

Oh man. Now I really feel old as I remember when Johnny Olsen died.

Some of the most depressing TV I have ever seen the days following when Rod Roddy was the new replacement.

Anyone else ever rub one out to any of the Price Is Right "girls"? Dian Pennington was a given but I always had it for Holly.

Wow, maybe THERE is the curse.
Not Babe Ruth.
Not some fucking goat.
Not Ted Turner, but close...
Bob fucking Barker.
Work with Bob and die, while he lives on, Dick Clark-like.
Be an otherwise anonymous announcer (does anyone remember Johnny Olsen?), make yourself famous on a Barker show, die young.
Be afraid, Mikey D., be very afraid. I'd be. At least Fez doesn't invite anyone to COME ON DOWN! Publically, that is.

I hate to see anyone kick the container. But losing Hot Rod really hurts.
Remember when he cracked Jimmy Snuka with a coconut?
bagpipes are blairing Roddy, may you be in heaven for a few hours before the devil goes down to georgia..
Love the one you hate

men get breast cancer?
It's very rare, but yes. The victim tends to be heavier, but there are always exceptions. My great-uncle found out he had it...4 days after he had gotten home from Europe and WW2 and kickin' Nazi ass! Luckily the dcotors just removed the tumor and he's been fine ever since.

I'm waiting to pass judgement until bunny tells us how many men/women he raped.

I read about this on the Yahoo News Board today.
My initial impression is what a combo for a guy, breast cancer AND colon cancer. How many people were in his support group?
But I moved on and realized that if I can get a gaudy jacket large enough at a thirft store this late in the game, I got a Halloween costume idea for TeRRor. Some of the Ron and Fez Girls can go as the Price is Right Girls and I can go as Bob Barker and pinch their asses all night.
Nah, I'm sticking with my original idea. You will be blown away.
I assassin down the avenue.

Pardon me, and I do not wish to upset the memory of Rod Roddy (if that is in fact his name), but why all the attention? He was not a special person, he was merely recognizable due to his job. Do we really have to mourn his passing, or even take note of it? I think that these fringe celebrities should just die quietly, there is no sense in trying to garner attention as if they were superheroes. It would in fact be a different story if it were revealed that he raped someone during his lifetime, but as far as we know he did not, he was just a simple nobody.
(anyone here can make me a nice sig pic?)
