Tell me if this is weird.
During the shenanigans at The Hard Rock on Friday, my cellphone went missing. I called on Saturday and no one had found it, so I called Verizon and suspended my service. Because I'm an ass, I didn't get insurance on my phone. This left me with one of two options, paying full retail for a new phone (about $300) or using my old phone and switching the service. My old phone sucks so that's a no-go, and I ain't got 3 bills to blow on a new phone, so what am I to do?
I've been doing business with the same cell phone guy for years and we've struck up a friendship so I call him and tell him my situation. "Not to worry," he said, "come in and I'll take care of ya." Naturally, I did. This is where it gets creepy.
I show up there this afternoon and he says, "Here ya go, Blakjeezis (not my real name - changed to protect the innnocent), it came in this morning. It's the exact phone that you had and I can give it to you for $100."
"Cool," says I.
"One thing though," a dark shadow fell on his face, "This phone was bought not long ago by a guy who died a week later. Like I said, it was dropped off today."
Now I'm thinking that whoever reads this is gonna say this is some kind of Halloween tale I'm concocting. It's not. There's no punchline, nothing weird has happened. It's just kinda spooky that I have a dead man's phone. The really creepy thing is this, I checked the last called number and it was 911! How fucked up is that!?!?!
Okay, so I made that last bit up, about the 911 and all, but the rest is true.
Scary, huh?
