Time to start rebuilding. I never lost the feeling most Yankee fans had all year. We should be better with the talent we have, and the bullpen sucks. I thought any team could beat us, besides the Red Sox. It's a miracle we made it to within 2 wins of a title this year, with almost no clutch hitting and no bullpen besides Rivera. We can fix some of these things with the right off season moves and having one team come out as a unit from spring training on.
1b-DH-Giambi is a lock and Johnson mightbe dealt
2b-We need a solid defensive 2nd baseman that doesnt really need to be an offensive wiz, but he should at least be able to work a count for Christs sake. Soriano should be traded to L.A fr that reliever if we can get him. I dont give a fuck how many homeruns he hits in the regular season, it doesnt mean shit.
SS-Jeter is a lock
3b-Boone should stay. That HR goes a long way for me. Maybe with an off-season and complete spring training he'll settle into his role and he'll be able to field a fucking ground ball once in awhile. I've heard we might get Tejada and put him at third, but that guys a fucking bumb when it counts and he had a lousy season last year too.
RF-Dunno. I like Karim. He might be good enough. If Juan doesnt play everyday he should be traded, he can play everyday somewhere and we can get something decent in return. Either piss or get off the pot with these right fielders, we have 4 of them.
CF-Bernie. I think he's a lock but he shouldnt be. I want to punch him everytime a ball drops 2 feet in front of him. Maybe its time to get somebody that knows how to bend over and put the glove out, or maybe its time to switch him with Matsui.
LF- Matsui-lock, unless he moves to center.
C- Jorge Posadamaggio (thats mine)-lock. One thing, block the fucking plate.
Pitchers:
Clemens-gone
Wells-Gone
Weaver-Die
Pettite- Sign him
Mussina-lock
Contrares-start him
Colon-Get him
Milwood-maybe
Bullpen-dump everybody except Rivera, Gabe White
and maybe Nelson.
Torre-Lock.
Anybody know a place with all free-agents listed?

Um, maybe guys looking to be bench coachs should contact them since Zim said he's gone. You want to talk about Pedro treating Zim like shit? Zim said he was quiting because of Steinbrenner. He said all he wanted for the last 10 months was to be treated like a human being and he wasn't. He also said he's not retireing. So maybe he's the bench coach for whoever is going to be the new Sox manager?
Here's a partial list of the top guys (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=1608256)
I would go after the Japanese SS Kazuo Matsui and put him at second. I'd try to trade for a #1 pitcher because I don't like any of the top free agent pitchers. I'd be willing to trade Soriano and Johnson, but I want a TRUE #1. If I had to choose one of the free agents, I'd take Millwood over Colon.
I'd go after Guerrero. No guarantee he wants to come here, but you gotta try, and if you raise the price for someone else to sign him, then that's good.
Resigning Pettite is a given.

Weaver-Die
Amen to that. Not to be mean or anything, but he just SUCKS. He has great potential, but he always seems to ruin it. He should be traded and/or sent to a farm club.
I agree with a majority of your list. I think Johnson is a definite lock. And I dunno about Boone. Yea, he did come through during Game 7 of the ALCS, but that's overshadowed by the errors and crappy hitting he's had. Not saying that he isn't a good player, but he isn't amazing either.
I hope to God that they actually decide to use Sojo. I mean, they have him, so why don't they fuckin' use him instead of having him eat sunflower seeds all day and warm the bench. Put him over at third. He knows what to do.
Garcia is really good. Keep him. Contrares started off a little iffy in the year, but he's really come around. He's gonna be a key player next year.
Pitching needs a whole new makeover, now that a good chunk of it is going. If the pitching isn't good, there is no way in hell the Yanks will make next year's playoffs, let alone the series.

All I can say is you don't want Millwood. Yeah he had a nice first half along wth the no-hitter for my Phils but the last half was horrid. he is a nice pitcher. Thats about it. He is NO ace by any means and his control is very sporadic. Then again, you want him, take him, we sure as hell don't need his srvices any more. Plus I hear he wants back in Atlanta in the worst way.

Remember, next year Steve Karsay will be back. That will be huge for the bullpen. And Jon Lieber will be back too. He's a former twenty game winner.

Part of the reason all non-Yankee fans hate the Yankees is that they will come back from this loss by adding every star they can pluck from losing, low-budget teams. Most teams add a second baseman and a reliever, whereas the Yanks will add Guerrero, Vidro, and Colon. Then again, that's what makes watching them lose so damn sweet.

Okay, it's time for my predictions for the Yankees.
These may sound crazy but I think I'll ultimately be right.
Joe Torre - Will not return as manager, I got the sense watching him this year that he wants to move on to something else, maybe another team. I definitely noticed it in the post season and after they lost the World Series.
Don Zimmer - I believe he's also gone. Once Torre goes, Zimmer goes.
Mel Stottlemeyer - I believe Mel is going to be gone as well. The bullpen needs to be rebuilt aside from Rivera and I think they will start with the pitching coach.
Don Mattingly - I believe after watching Don Mattingly watching these games in the post season that he will be a part of the Yankees organization (or another teams organization) either as a coach or possibly as a manager.
As for players, I think the following will be gone
David Wells - Gone
Aaron Boone - Gone
Nick Johnson - Gone
Alphonso Soriano - Gone...unless he learns to hit in the post season
Most of the Yankees bullpen as well. Jeff Nelson may survive it.
I could be wrong about all of this, but we'll see.

George Steinbrenner is in Viscious Mode. He's probably made the lives of each and every Yankee MISERABLE for the last 3 days. When he loses like this, he seriously goes insane and will spend whatever it takes to get the Yankees to another Championship. I'm saying this just to clarify that he's definitely not gonna go with a loser to manage his team next season.

I hardly think Grady Little is a loser. Granted he made a mistake in the 9th inning, but he is not a loser. He completely rebuilt the Red Sox into a very impressive ballclub. No one can take that away from him. That said, if you want to rebuild the Yankees you will need someone with his ability. All rivalries aside, from the standpoint of business I think it makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised to see him considered for the role.

Yeah I don't think Grady is a loser either. I think it's pretty stupid that they let him go because of one bad move in the clutch. but what I'm saying is, in the burning eyes of Steinbrenner, Grady Little is second best in the ALCS. His current manager beat Grady Little, so to pick up Grady would be a downgrade. That's the last thing he's willing to do right now.

He's not going anywhere. George wouldnt fire him with the Boston job open, and hes under contract so he cant just quit and go somewhere else. Besides he been blessed by the Yankees. Think he wouldve won shit anywhere else?

I never said he's fire him, I just think he's going to decide on his own to try something else. I got the sense that it was becoming repetitive for him to be with the same club and keep winning all the time. He's done everything possible and I think he wants to move on. I'm not wishing this, it's just a sense I get.

Would you people lay off Soriano? He's hit in the postseason before. He had game winning hits in the 2001 postseason and nearly won Game 7 versus the Diamondbacks. He took a Curt Schilling fastball, which nobody else on the team could touch, which was way off the plate and blasted a HR. He's an incredible talent, and the only way you could trade him is if you get an Ace. And I'm not talking Javier Vazquez, I'm talking a pitcher the quality of a Roy Halladay or a Mark Prior.

Isn't that what the Mets have been doing for the past 5 years? The reason Yankee Haters are as such is because of Jealosy, even the Mets back office suffers from this, and they try to emulate the Yankees.
What nobody understands is that the Yankees' way of doing things under Steinbrenner doesn't work without locking the team up and not making any trades for a couple of years and letting the farm system bring up a good core team.
I'd be very surprised if the Yanks win another world series in this run before dropping into another ten or so years of mediocraty, and by then Stienbrenner will be gone.

The Yankees hung No. 23 in Monument Park six years ago. Tuesday, they will put it back into play, as Don Mattingly is expected to be named as the team's new hitting coach. (http://yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/nyy/news/nyy_news.jsp?ymd=20031104&content_id=598569&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nya)

Nick Johnson and Arizona's Danny Bautista go to St. Louis, Edmonds and Schilling go to New York and Alfonso Soriano and Jeff Weaver go to Arizona.
something else would have to happen to make this work. The D-Backs would either have to completely go with a younger is better philosophy or the Cards would have to give up a prospect or something to give to them.
and if Tejada comes to town, although i think it's wrong, he'd be moving to third.

No, we got Billy Wagner! YAY! Having a 1-2-3 9th during a Phillies game is going to be very VERY Strange!
Well, as much as I would love an Ace like Pettite, it will either be back with the Yanks or possibly Texas. Houston is dumping salary and probably won't go there but stranger things have happened.
The big talk down here is that Javier Vasquez or Bartolo Colon are very good possibilities to the staff ace. I am hoping for Vasquez since Colon looks to be held by the White Sox and has a few years on Vasquez. We are also talking Curt Schilling down here as he was in town recently on WIP talking how he wants to come back and Arizona is doing a salary dump as well. I'll take him if we lose Millwood. If we hold onto Millwood, which is doubtful cause, he stank up the month of September. He is NO ace but a nice 2 or 3 in the rotation. I think there was too much pressure on the guy going down the stretch and this picture from the final series in Florida will forever stick in my mind.
Sitting on a stool waiting to bat in the TOP of the 6th inning. Sitting on a FUCKING STOLL! You gotta be kidding me! The guy is OUT OF SHAPE!
Anyway, our line up is pretty solid. We just have to get Burrell hitting again, Jimmy Rollins and Bobby Abreu striking out less. I would take a Jay Gibbons (orioles) or a Miguel Tejada (A's) to replace those two in heartbeat. Abreu will never be traded cause the Phils management is in love with the guy and he is Ed Wade's legacy to the team. BULLSHIT! Bobby plays for himself. PERIOD! Rollin's has a lot of potential but when he is asked if he is going to work on bunting in the off season and he says he doesn't think he needs help in that area and you clearly saw into he World Series even how Juan Pierre and other Marlins can kill you with the small ball, I think that speaks volumes about Rollins. I have not totally given up on Rollins or Abreu yet as they are nice players, "nice" players, not the pick of the litter.
Besides that we are in good shape and I just hope the new park is open by April 3, which is the first of 2 games against the Indians. The sod got laid yesterday and should be ready but the rest of the stadium doesn't look like it will make it. I am no construction whiz but it just looks bleak.
You can be your ass though; I will be there to see my beloved Vet get blown up. It will be like losing an old friend.
The way it stands with Montreal is this, if Guererro signs with another team (he is very high on staying in Montreal) then Vasquez will stay with the Expos. If Vlad stays like I hinted to, then Vasquez will leave. Because of the situation in Montreal with MLB owning the team they can only hold onto one. Personally and I am trying to keep my bias out of this cause I love the Expos, they have a good amount of pitchers already and can put Hernandez in as the ace and have a Tomo Ohka or Zach Day as a strong number two man. Montreal has some serious power in its line up already and keeping Vlad will only solidify them as a contender with the Fish and the Phils next year. I say Vlad stays and help to not only keep Montreal afloat but maybe make things really interesting up there.

I just question how much Schill has left in him. He is due for a big year next year. Time will tell.

Now if they dont get Schilling they will get A-Rod, which in turn will force the Yanks to get Matsui and Sheffield......causing Boston to feel nervous and to sign Guerraro

As far as my loyalty goes, this trade bothers me.
Nick Johnson should've been a Yankee for years to come.
As far as getting a quality pitcher goes, this was a brilliant trade. Vasquez is sick. His walk/strike ratio is phenomenal. He's young.
I'm just afraid Nick will turn into an amazing, steady hitter and I'll cry.

Its a shame. We just traded our first baseman as far as i'm concerned. Yes Vasquez is top of the line as far as available pitchers go, but there is something extra to be said for the home made players. Now we need to find another first baseman to play at first 80 games plus the post-season? Forget about it. I'd rather of traded the non-fielding, non-pitch taking, non-performing in the post season Soriano instead of NJ.

Soriano gets one more chance to stop swinging at pigeons now that Mattingly is the hitting coach.
As far as the trade goes, it's not cut and dry, no matter how you look at it.
They needed another pitcher to fill the rotation.
They haven't even signed Andy yet.
They picked up a damn good one and with the money they throw around, it's not like they won't pick up a position player during the year, or before the playoffs to fill in the gaps.
Yet, I'm still reminded of how pissed I was when they let go of J.T. Snow.

A lots happened since this thing died. Pettites gone, Wells is gone. Soriano is gone, thank God and we have Brown in the starting rotation. Even with losing Pettie which killed me, I still think the pitching is about the same and maybe better. For all the history with Pettite, lets face it, he stunk half the time in the post season. He had A Lot of shitty games.
Heres A mock line-up for opening day:
HR RBI AVG
1. Lofton 12 46 .296
2. Jeter 10 52 .324
3. A-Rod 47 118 .298
4. Giambi 41 107 .250
5. Sheffield 39 132 .330
6. Williams 15 64 .263
7. Matsui 16 106 287
8. Posada 30 101 .281
9. 2nd Baseman
I hope that layed out right. Heres the starting rotation and closer:
Mussina 17-9 3.54
Contrares 7-2 3.30
Vazquez 13-12 3.24
Brown 14-9 2.39
Lieber 0-0 0.00
Rivera 5-2 1.66
Now the records of the new guys is misleading now that theyre on the Yankees. With this years line-up, one could assume Mussinas record would have been better last year. If you compare the ERA of the new guys to Contreras and mussina, youll see that the=ier records would have been uch better if they played for the Yanks last year, and now the Yankkes are more powerful this year. With last years ERA, one could assume Brown and Vazquez could both be around 20- 23 wins this year.

Ok, it's this time of year again. A lot of the stuff I said last year still stands. Our bullpen sucks. Even with Gordan and Quantrill, Mo is still over worked and he's the only one that can be counted on. I like sturtz though. Lets get right into this again
1b- Ditch all 3 of them. I'll think of a trade in awhile. Delgados a free agent but let him suck on some other team. Yanks should pay 3/4 of Giambis contract and ship him somewhere for ....anything.
2b- Cairo. Hes fine, stick with him. Maybe sign Nomar and play him there.
ss- Jeter, lock.
3b- A-rod, lock.
C- Posada, lock. Bring up this Diaz guy and let him play instead of flaherty. He's young and we need to know if he can play in the bigs. We need someone worth while to rest Jorge towards the end of the season or in series' like this one, without his replacement sucking.
RF- Sheff. Hes signed so hes a lock, but I wish he wasnt. He's old and hes hurt, but still a lock.
CF- Lofton-gone
Bernie- DH
Beltran- LOCK
LF- Matsui- Lock
Pitching
1) Mussina- Lock
2) Vazquez - Lock
3) Lieber- Lock
4) Brown- Kill him- GONE
5) Loiza- Gone
6) The Duke- Keep him around
7) Milton- Sign him
8) Pavano- Sign him
9) Percival- Sign him
The big problem here is Giambi. Hes got 4 years left at like, 20 mill a piece or some shit, and he's worthless. They gotta bite the bullet cause Bernie needs to DH everyday.

Torre was saying he'll stop managing when he wakes up and decides he's not having fun anymore. And at the end of last season, he said he'd leave it up in the air whether or not he'd come back. He came back.
After the absolute LASHING Steinbrenner is gonna give the organization tomorrow, Torre is gonna call it quits.
Another thing that hasn't been mentioned:
PEDRO.
When he stepped onto the field today in the 7th, it was the begining of the end of his career on the Red Sox. He literally came out there to get acquainted with the Yankee fans. The guy let up 2 runs and allowed 4 baserunners in about 8 minutes on the field. The crowd, even though they were taken out of the game, continued chanting "Who's Your Daddy?!" as Pedro stood there and let the Yankees be his daddies one more time. The guy is a scumbag who doesn't give a shit about team spirit. He will go to the highest bidder. Whether he wins a ring this year or not, Pedro wants to be a Yankee.

On Pedro: Sign him for 2 years and put him in the pen. Do the same with Alois Terry Leiter. Niether can pitch deep into games and with no pen theyll suck as starters. thisll give us a great Leftie-Righty combo that both showed they can shut-out teams for a few innings before tiring. We could have 2 Smoltzs in the pen. THIS is what we really need. And we can pick up leiter somewhat easily since the Mets would be happy to ditch him without actually just releasing him. Fuck it, pay off Giambi and give him to them, they aint got a 1B.

Torre - gone
Stottlemyre - lock
Torre just signed the most lucrative manager's contract in the MLB. That doesn't exactly lock him into being here next year, but it sure helps. But, if he is gone, so is Stottlemyre. They had to beg him to return this year. No Torre next year, no Mel either, that's a lock.

Torre--get rid of his and his laid back attitude. He never won until he got George's money backing him with the best players. He is so over-hyped as a manager---what was his record before he came to the Yankees? I remember when they chucked Buck and brought Torre on, ALOT of the YANKEE fans bashed Torre for being a LOSER before coming to the Yanks. And people complain when the idiots run the asylum in Boston. If Torre got up and told his players to bunt, then we wouldn't be talking about this situation. Zimmer was the spark behind the fire and the Yanks don't have anyone like that on the bench.
The Yanks should clean house and rebuild their farm system. But we know it's not going to happen.
There should be no one on the Yankees that is considered "untouchable". If they can get something in return then pull the trigger. This includes Arod, Mo, Jeter, Posada, Matsui, and Bernie.
And the Yankees need starting pitching. Heck I wouldn't mind seeing Pedro or any of the Sox pitchers on the team. I hate them now but if their on my team--welcome. It would be cool if we got a knuckleballer though. (Phil Niekro best knuckleball pitcher EVER!).

Here's my thoughts on this...
1B - Need a new 1st Baseman
2B - Need a new 2nd Baseman
I'm not at all impressed with Cairo. We haven't had a decent second baseman in years and it's sad.
I'd like to see the Yankees try and get Beltron in the offseason for the outfield, perhaps replace Bernie. I like Bernie alot however I think Beltron would do excellent in his spot, plus he's got years to grow with the team.
I would also like to see better DH's, get rid of Ruben Sierra, I can't stand him.
I'd like to see them get rid of Tony Clark, Cairo, Sierra, maybe even Lofton and get some new blood there. Olerud I can't stand, get rid of him. Bring Tino back, whatever just get a solid first baseman who can hit on a regular basis.
As for pitching, get rid of Tom Gordon (That name always reminds me of a Steven King book), Kevin Brown, heck most of them. I'd like to see them really work on the bullpen and the infield most importantly.

Sheff had a good year, but he's not what we need. 1) He's old. You cant just have old players all around because they get switched out every few years and it never works. See NY Rangers. We won a lot with a bunch of people putting up numbers worse then Jeters this year. Beltrans got 10 years left in him, thats why he fits this team. Look at Kevin Brown, he's worthless and 39 years old. Vaz quez is still young and you cant ditch him after 1 year because he sucked. Another year or 2 and you have to assume he cant handle the big market. For now we dont need the best players in the league, we need the best players in thier 20's in the league. Get those available players every off season for a couple of years and we'll have 5 more years of greatness

You have to give Vazquez another chance. He has great stuff, maybe the break and a new pitching coach and fresh approach in Spring Training will help. I don't think he's freaked by NY. He played great in the first half. Weaver was a disaster from the start, as are most of the NY headcases.

New SP: Pavano, Clement, ODALIS PEREZ (he's a young lefty stud)

Sometimes I can't believe what I read on this board, it's almost as if some of you have zero baseball knowledge whatsoever. Let George sort it out, see where he wants to go with the team. You're all sitting there with your predictions of who's staying and who's going, but the fact is none of you can predict shit. Who thought A-rod would be a Yankee this time last year? Nobody. Changes will be made, that's stating the obvious. But instead of making rash decisions like firing everybody but A-rod Jeter Matsui and Rivera, let's see what direction the organization wants to go. Will Torree be back? Who knows, I think he will, but anybody can leave/be fired at any point in time. Cashman? He's wanted out for a while but it doesn't mean he's a lock to go. It'll all work itself out during the offseason, let's see what moves are made first then we can start to criticize.

1) Did you forget about Soriano? He was a young fit for Wad's plan, but GS couldn't pass up another bigger named player. Again. Greed baby greed! Soriano could have been very important in the ALCS this year, giving them the small ball angle again. As opposed to the swing for the fences mentality. It all would depend on which Soriano showed up; the one from last year's ALCS or the World Series.
2) As much as your idea pains me, another great young player going to the Yanks, but try this on for size. Bring in Beltran and move Williams to first base. He'd make the move pretty easily being a great athlete, and he would stick around for leadership and "been there" feel with Jeter and Mo.

I have to agree with HHH on the fact that they will let George stay if likes, along with the rest of the staff. However, the thread is for speculation and it is fun. Calm down with the knowledge statement, get over yourself. I think most people here posted with some decent knowledge, just some with their heart more than their head. Saying what they want, not what is possible. But as you said yourself, anything can happen. We are talking about the Yankees for God's sake!
I do find it hilarious how quickly the talk went from "the sox are unprofessional and they need an ovehaul with player friendly Francona gone." Immediately followed by the "Torre sucks, Cashman makes terrible moves, the core is too old and we need fifty new top ranked player". The fact is both teams got within one game of the WS! The yankees won over 100 games, three str8 years. I don't think these are teams that need an overhaul. Fuckin A people, my team needs help, not yours. The Mets need help too. It's nice to be able to cry over such bad seasons.

Vazquez being spanish for Weaver is the funniest thing I have read about the Yankees in a while, and it's funny because it's true.
Also, spoon, you are correct. I did come down a little harsh about the whole "knowledge" thing and all, I know this is in speculation and it's for fun. Mostly that was my frustration talking, I'm taking this loss very rough. As I mentioned in another thread this is my second worst heart-break I've suffered all time sports-wise (running a close second to the Devils/Rangers 1994 ECF). And in all honesty I should consider myself fortunate, but it's still rough to handle. It just bothers me when people go from one day being "fans" of a club to the next day criticizing every player/manager/coach of the team.

i'm guessing this was sarcastic but it struck me as something really stupid, yet possible. Who knows maybe when Leiter and the Wilpons are engaged in one of their bi-weekly circle jerks Al might tug too hard and he'll get sent off. I fully believe that Al's the cancer he's accused of being and it really disgusts me. Really you could name any Yankee other than Giambi and I'd probably give ya Leiter. Tony Clark? Sold. John Olerud? In a heartbeat. Paul Quantrill? ......well I don't want to give the Wilpons ideas......
And about Mets fans or just Yankee haters rooting for the SAWX.... I guess I can understand true Yankee fans hating the SAWX and wishing death upon them and such. If the Braves went 60 more years without a title (and probably the Yankees also actually if somehow all the shitheaded Yankee fans were to stay on board) I'd probably still be rooting against them. But I think from the outside of this rivalry I just want the SAWX to win one. I think that every non-New Yorker, non-St. Louisian (sure), and non-Yankee fan is or should be rooting for the SAWX. If only for the fans.

Willie Randolph going to the Mets doesn't bother me one bit. I'm not one of those Yankee fans that hates the Mets. I just consider them another team. I mean if you think about it all the Yankees and Mets have in common is that they play in New York. Now we all knew that Willie was going to get a job eventually and will he be missed on the Yankee bench...sure...but nowhere near as much as Stottlemyre....

I don't hate the Mets at all... I enjoy the "rivalry" that's formed in relatively recent history, but it certainly doesn't hold a candle to Yankees/Red Sox. And I'm definitely happy for Willie, cuz he deserves the opportunity. But at the same time, I'm still sad to see him go. He was an awesome Yankee on the field and he's been great on the bench for the Yankees since 1993. He's a lifetime Yankee, so it's just really weird seeing him put on the orange and blue.

Sometimes George Steinbrenner does his own negotiating, and on Tuesday, ESPN has learned, he met face-to-face in Tampa with the most prominent free agent pitcher on the market -- Pedro Martinez, who, to date, has not accepted a two-year, $27.5 million offer from the Boston Red Sox.

It's true, but considering his performance with the Mets this year, I feel like Stanton is merely the lesser of two evils. It's an upgrade, because ANYTHING is an upgrade from Heredia, but it's not much of an upgrade if he continues to blow games the way he did last season.

So far, we've signed a pitcher who has yet to prove himself (great, we need more of those), replaced a quality CHEAP 2nd basemen with an old and more expensive one, and we've dealt away the only pitcher other than Mussina to actually PITCH WELL in the post season. Things are looking up.

As much as I would have liked to see him back, he probably isn't going to have a great season between the weight, the age, the cranky back, and the fact that he'll have absolutely no one to show him anything that resembles discipline. And the minute I heard he was talking to Boston, I kinda figured he would go there.
He's a lunatic who's obsessed with the Babe. So, now he's played for his own home town team (San Diego), and then the Babe Ruth trifecta... the team Babe was famous for (NY), the team that plays in the town where the Babe grew up & has a statue erected in his honor (Baltimore), and now the team the Babe broke in with (Boston). I've just never liked him & can foresee him finally breaking down right in front of our eyes. And there the Yankees will be, thinking about how good Vazquez is, and Duncan might become. And there they are, with a broken down 41 or 42 year old pitcher who's about to hang it up & we've traded one of the few pieces we have in the system to get him. Plus, I don't like the whole, "if you can't beat 'em, buy 'em" scenario...I'm still bitter from 2001.

Great pitchers come here in the twilight of thier career and still rise to the occasion, it would be hard to trust Vasquez in any big spot. Besides,Johnsonfor Vasquez and some minor league nobodies? The Unit makes pedro look like Rick Rhodent.

And minor leagers are PROSPECTS. Most of them dont work out, and even the ones who do often have growing pains, and take a few years. Look at the farmhands the Yanks have traded in recent years. Nick Johnson? Spent most of last year hurt, just like when he was a Yank. Soriano? Good player. Horrendous in post season, and we turned him for A-Rod(Who had a good post season). Brandon Claussen? Look up his #s. Ted Lilly, who was traded for Weaver, is a nice pitcher. Doesn't keep me up nights that we lost him. Its very rare that a Derrick Jeter or Dwight Gooden come straight out of the minors and produce in the Bigs.

Anyone else hear today that as this trade moves along & they try to get Green to waive his no-trade clause, the Dodgers decided they needed to cut even more payroll in the deal so they threw Ishii into the deal, coming to the Yanks?! A Young lefty who needs to learn how to pitch, but supposedly has nasty stuff. I heard this from a buddy today, who's usually right on, but I haven't been able to substantiate it.
http://pic5.picturetrail.com/VOL77/857148/1548180/71172486.jpg[color=white]
I don't know about Ishii's stuff, but he's not young, he's 31. He's OK, except that he walks a lot of abtters and doesn't strike too many out. He had a bad season last year (13-8, but a 4.71 ERA) and hasn't been the same since his 2003 season ended with him taking a line drive to the face.

Here's the book on Ishi. Walks a ton of hitters (100 ea 2002/2003) Would have walked another 100 last year but was booted from rotation. Lefty, good stuff, maybe too good since he cant control it. Maybe a long lefty out of the bullpen for Yanks, or spot starter. The Yanks dont have alot of patience with players, so its not a place to work out your problems. Too much pressure to win. Throw in language/cultural issues with Japanese players.

One official involved in the discussions told Newsday, "We shook hands" Friday. A second executive confirmed the first official's story to Newsday and added, "Who's ever going to want to do business with [the Dodgers] again?"
This franchise (Dodgers) is becoming a joke. Last year, they make one of the worst trades in history with the Marlins, now this. They have a new owner, and apparently the right hand does know what the left one is doing.

What a fuster cluck. After all this, Vasquez throws in a wrench at the end. Since he's from Puerto Rico, he probably wants to stay on the East Coast. But, what the fuck? He doesn't have a no-trade clause. He's gonna give up 40 mil because he doesn't like the west coast? He's bluffing.

GOOD!! I like Vazquez even more now.
Too bad Steinbrenner's gonna be so pissed he'll probably trade him for a bag of Skittles.
EDIT:Newsday is the only one reporting Vazquez backed out, ESPN and the AP just mentioned that in their stories. Given the fact that DePodesta has given a different reason for being uneasy with this trade every different time he's been asked, that Shawn Green's status was never determined, and that the Dodgers have been stumbling through this the whole way, I'm not sure I believe it.

So did Jeff Morad, the owner of the Diamondbacks, who also said he'd think twice before dealing with the Dodgers ever again. They had a handshake deal. Both the Yanks and D-backs were so confident they had their paperwork on Bud Selig's desk. The Dodgers shit their pants, and now they're trying to cover their ass.
Something else to throw in. The D-backs lost something like 60 mil last year. They were planning to save the $18mil on Johnson's contract, and already spent it on Russ Ortiz(8mil) and Troy Glaus(10mil). They may be in a worse position now than a month ago.

The reason the D-Backs have signed those contracts is they've gotten $250 million from somewhere. That's why they tried to get Johnson to sign an exstension. And Moorad doesn't own the D-Backs, he's only the CEO and owns a small part I beleive.

Fuck the Dodgers. Both the Yankees and Diamondbacks were under the impression the deal was done, paperwork was already being submitted. They pulled out and then tried to blame it all on Javy Vazquez by spreading FALSE rumors that they had health concerns and he was refusing to come to L.A. As if pulling out of a deal at that late stage wasn't unprofessional enough. They deserve all the crap the get.
Besides, if they were "smart," they would have seen how shitty this deal was for them in the first place and bail out then, not drag this out for weeks.

I would rather have had Milton than Jarrod Wright, but its done now. $25.5? That's 8.5 per year! The Yanks had him signed for 6 per year before they backed out. They really misread the market this year. First they let Lieber go (Who I would've liked to see back) over 1 mil. Then he ended up getting the extra mil (per year) plus two more years from the Phillies. I just hope we get the Unit soon and all should be fine.
There were alot of good, but no great pitchers available this year. So fuck it.

I still hate Johnson, but at least there will be a lefty in the rotation as long as the Big Ugly's back holds up. Another decent sign is that they didn't have to part with Duncan, according to that article. Not that he'll ever crack the lineup for the Yankees, but if he develops they will have one bargaining chip in the future.

Yes but youre forgetting that with their "revenues", the Yankees could go out and get anyone the damn well want, wtf needs prospects? More pitching? No problem! Lefty? Im sure when Randys done the Yanks will just go out and get another top lefty i.e. Scott Kazmir. Catcher? By the time Posadas done Victor Martinez and Johnny Estrada will have already established themselves as top players in this league and will be just sitting there for the Yankees taking.

True, but I think it's good for team chemistry to have a rookie come up each year (Which the Yanks did 1994-2001) The older guys teach & pick up the kid when he makes mistakes. Plus the young guys add spark, ambition. Veteran teams tend to sit back more and wait for a rally, which sometimes never comes. I also think the guys that come up through the Yankee system know the enormous expectations of being a Yank, and have deeper bonds with guys they come up with. To this day, Bernie, Jeter, Posada, Mo are the guys you look to in the playoffs. Overall it's healthy for the team, and organization since it keeps payroll lower than it would be otherwise.
BTW The Mets play in the same market as the Yanks, You're not exactly Pittsburgh (revenue wise) plus you guys have your own network coming next year and bucketloads of $ that comes with it.
