View Full Version : RVD....soon to be leaving the WWE?

Speaking of contracts, I have heard from quite a few people that WWE has started talks with Rob Van Dam about signing a contract extension but thus far, it hasn't gone anywhere. Whether that is why, after months of being used poorly, RVD was finally given the Intercontinental Title is a matter of conjecture.

I know, I know, it's from 1bullshit.com.
However, it IS true that Rob's contract is ending in a few months, and that the WWE is attempting to negotiate a new deal - but so far he's none too eager to start.
Add to that the fact that Rob has been making some VERY critical interviews lately, in which he criticizes the WWE....and drops a few hints about certain superstars. Yeah - the one you're thinking of.
Of course, things are still early......and RVD may resign.....but the consensus building is that he may very well NOT do so.
Here are some things to consider.
1. RVD is VERY unhappy in his current position - even going so far as to saying he doesn't care about the IC title, the belt he currently holds.
2. He doesn't like the WWE's strenuous schedule
3. According to friends, Rob's recently opened comic book store was designed to be a business venture that he can fall back on - instead of working for the WWE.
It's been rumored that Rob has expressed that he may leave the WWE (when his contract expires), and live off the profits from his store, as well as any money he can make working in the independents and Japan (and believe it or not, there IS money to be made there, especially for someone of RVD's name value).
This is all speculation at this point, but I started this thread to have a discussion to see what your reaction to this would be. Would you be happy to see Rob go? Do you think he will? What do you think will happen?
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Rob leave.....and be welcomed into the open arms of the NWA.

That'd be pretty huge for TNA if he decided to leave. But I'm sure he'll stay with WWE, he has a family to support and I'm sure he'll get more money there.

Allow me to bring up this snippet I read about Rob's Get In The Ring interview from this past weekend:
''Phantom then brings up that Kevin Kelly mentioned on a GIR interview that RVD was once penciled in to win the Heavyweight belt, 'But a guy with three initials in his name made sure (he) didn't.' RVD laughs, says 'Nuff said, I think I know who you are talking about its three letters and it's not RVD.'''
As long as Trips sees him as a threat (and who doesn't threaten Trips' ego these days?), he's stalled. I'm all for seeing him move on to TNA, but something tells me RVD's getting totally soured on wrestling as a whole these days.

Rob is apparently VERY unhappy in the WWE. This isn't all just conjecture - there is some legitimacy to this story. It is very possible, and *plausible*, that Rob may be thoroughly disgusted with the WWE and leave. Or he could stay - but the situation is at the point, at least right now, where we can hypothesize about him leaving because it IS a real possibility.
As for the money - I'm not sure what the WWE is paying him, but don't be so sure that he can't do well elsewhere.
It's a myth that wrestlers can only survive on a WWE paycheck - that might be so for guys like Mark Jindrack or Garrison Cade, who would no doubt have to scratch through the indies. But for guys like RVD, it wouldn't be that hard.
Raven has said in interviews before that he's making more money NOW than he ever did working for the WWE. I was talking with some people about this issue recently. Think of it like this: say Rob does quit, and works for the NWA. He also works one - and only one - indy gig on the weekend. He commands $2,000 for each appearance (and with his star status, he can receive it). That's $4,000 a week. If he maintains that all year round, that's $208,000. Let's say he also does a couple Japanese dates throughout the year, along with whatever he makes from the comic book store.
Add it all up, and even after taxes, it's entirely possible that he may wind up making as much - if not more - than he makes in the WWE, only without having to deal with the political bullshit that's obviously bothering him and he gets to set his own schedule.

If he has a problem with HHH, why not trade him to Smackdown. He could be managed by Paul Heyman. Trade him for Benoit as they both need a change of scenery. Don't you think Lesnar and Angle would do the job if it meant keeping him in the company.

doesn't matter where RVD is, cripple H has "creative control" over both shows somehow, it's common for him to sit in meetings with writers and influence BOTh show's storylines, Hence why Benoit, Rhyno, Eddie, and Matt Hardy haven't gotten any shot at the title (the REAL WWE title BTW is on smackdown)
not to be off-topic, but isn't it Ironic the recognized WWE champion is considered the Raw champ, but wears what was considered the enemy company's belt?!?!??!

This is how it goes. RVD will probably leave the WWE by next summer.
Hopefully, he has not lost his love of wrestling by then and will sign onto TNA and travel Japan where he will gain the main event status he desperately needs. Also, he is free to get rid of that bastardized RVD we see in the WWE and unleash ECW's great "Whole Fucking Show" once again! Why does he has to alter himself to the WWE-style? Be that creative acrobatic force we know and love.
He would be instant main eventer in TNA alongside Raven, AJ, maybe Sting and Jarrett. Could you imagine a RVD-Raven feud over the NWA World Title? That would pretty much put TNA finall on the map as the evolution of wrestling as we now it!
Ya feel me playa?

money talks. He will stay. No Eric. I think that he would rather have the respect as a main eventer than go like everyone else, where the money is. He'll be like Raven in TNA!
We shall all see. He is too good to be screwed by the WWE. Just like Storm and Benoit... but that is a subject for another possible thread.

by then and will sign onto TNA
That's optimistic of you that they will still exist by next summer. They just had to cancel their 3 hour PPV because a washed up 50 year old (Hogan)can't make it. That's pretty sad that they don't have enough confidence in their usual talent to put on the show.
As for RVD, who cares what he does. I wish he left already. If I were HHH, and someone nearly crushed my trachea fucking up a move, i would be pissed too.

The anti-NWA remarks from the usual WWE marks are just sad and pathetic at this point.
NWA has ALREADY been around for nearly a year and a half now. "They won't be here a year from now." People were saying that when they opened - they're still here.
They have solid financial investors who are committed to the product and have LONG-TERM goals for the company. NWA is not going anywhere for a while.
As for the PPV being postponed - it's a matter of praticality. NWA knows that Hogan's name value & recognition in the marketplace will be instrumental in landing them a TV deal. They could go ahead with the PPV - but it's better to wait until Hogan's healthy again in order to maximize their chances of "breaking out" and landing a deal.
I just find it funny how the WWE marks look for anything to use to slam NWA - when it's entirely arguable that NWA has a more positive future ahead of it than the WWE.
