'Survivor' Winner Hatch Arrested in Rhode Island

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Richard Hatch, who won fame and $1 million on the hit reality game series ``Survivor,'' was arrested on Tuesday in a domestic dispute with his boyfriend, the entertainment show ``Access Hollywood'' reported.

Hatch turned himself in to police in Middletown, R.I., was released on his own recognizance and ordered to be in court on Sept. 7 to face misdemeanor charges of assault, the syndicated ''Access Hollywood'' reported.

Alan David, a spokesman for the 40-year-old Hatch, declined to comment on the arrest. He said Hatch would make a statement on Wednesday.

Hatch, who lives in Rhode Island, was the first $1 million winner on CBS-TV's ``Survivor,'' which became a ratings sensation and sparked a boom in reality-based TV shows. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20010821/re/people_hatch_dc_1.html

Ex-'Survivor' Convicted of Assault

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Former ``Survivor'' winner Richard Hatch was sentenced to a year's probation Monday for domestic assault.

Hatch, 40, said he planned to appeal the ruling handed down by Newport County District Court Judge Robert K. Pirraglia.

``It's a ludicrous ruling, and I'm not sure what's behind the judge's personal reasons for it, but it's certainly not objective,'' Hatch told WPRO-AM radio.

Hatch's former boyfriend, Glenn Boyanowski, accused him of assaulting him last month. Hatch said the altercation, which took place on the front steps of his Middletown home, began when Boyanowski tried to push his way inside.

Hatch became a celebrity last year after he won $1 million on the CBS television show ``Survivor.'' He is now a radio host for a Boston station. <a href="http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20010924/en/people_hatch_1.html">Yahoo! News</a>
