What is the worst, skakiest club you've ever been too. Without a shadow of a doubt I go with the birch hill. What a skanky disgusting club. The only thing that gives me some peace, is that there knocking it down.

went to the Birch Hill once to see a co-workers band called The Holy Goats... the club seemed okay as far as 'atmosphere', nothing spectacular but the sound system was great...

I happen to rather like a club that's a bit on the seedy side.

CBGB's.

Back in the day, when it was one of the few venues of its kind, you really had no choice but to wallow in those shitty conditions. These days, it's just morons doing it on purpose and trying to tell themselves they're not poseurs while standing ankle-deep in human goop and funk. And that's just pathetic.

You obviously have not been to many clubs. The Birch Hill was one of the best venues around this area and you're knocking it?

That place was never beyond dirty, yeah cig butts here and there but the bathrooms were kept up and so was the rest of the place.

It also wasn't a cramped venue, 2 split room 3 stages. Not to mention a huge outside deck where they serve food and drinks for people to cool off and relax. So tell me HOW this is a skanky venue?

Try Bene, going to a show there is the equivalent of a herd of cattle being shoved into a living room. Or the Cricket Club, Obsessions, Connections, etc.

Towards the end....SUNDANCE in Bayshore L.I. turned into a real dive.
I remember someone tried to flush a poster down the toilet. When I went back a few weeks later...it was still in the bowl, clogging the water. People were pissing on it for a month.

Nope. Fucking way off. CBGB's and The Birch Hill are PALACES compaired to some clubs. If you can't hack it there, you better just fucking wait for Celine Dion to come to your town then and play some upscale club or stadium, cause nothing will ever meet your high standards.

YOU HAVE NOT SEEN SCUM until you played Death Metal around the US.

BOTTOM OF THE BARREL has got to be Dreams in Philidelphia. The fucking stage is in the shape of an L with a hole you can fall in in the middle where your frontman is supposed to stand. The crowd was like 4 or 5 local drunks and the other bands NO MATTER WHO was on the bill. One band showed up with all their shit, saw the scene, said they were gonna go get some food and never came back. So we got bumped up to play earlier for the 4 drunks and the other bands. Woo hoo.

Castle Heights was my favorite Metal club in Queens, but it got shut down. That places was SHITTY and small, and it broke MANY fuses in guitar heads. My guitarist had to loan many of the out of state bands his head to keep the shows going after the club's shitty electrical set up blew fuses. BRING A SURGE PROTECTOR dumb asses! It's like 20 bucks for a decent one and well worth the investment to keep you 500- 1000 dollar head working.

And Hal Daddy's in Maryland was very disappointing. The back door leads RIGHT ONTO THE STAGE, if you can call it that. The whole downstairs is the club, and it's a huge concrete box basically. We had to step over a water filled hole with plywood floating in it to load in, and forget mics on anything but the vocals. There's room for about 30 people PACKED in front of the stage, then some stairs to a balcony that's like 4 feet higher. Now bands usually want to set up merch tables there, so that eats up more room. There were people standing on the stairs up to the bar when we played there it was so small.

We haven't been further south than Alabama or further west than Chicago, so I'm sure there's MANY MORE shit holes to play.

Oh, no doubt. I've been in venues and clubs MUCH worse than CBGB's...I was just bugged when I went there because it what was clear at this point it was a forced, faked "shitty" venue, which kinda made it even worse than a real shitty venue. It's like they were going out of their way to make it nasty, and the people WANTED it to be as nasty as possible because that somehow made it more "real".

I've been in places where the floor was just wood planks laid over a muddy floor (Much of the mud caused by leaky toilets), and even that seemed less awful than CBGB's.

No, it's just a perk of being in NYC. Also, that's what happens when you let long haired types in for decades.
