I made this quote in the Cubs win thread and will repeat it here...

"Two types of pain in baseball. Boston Red Sox pain which is getting so close to the end and winning it all and it just collapses for them. And then there is Chicago Cub pain which is never getting to the end at all (last time being 1945). "

Yeah, and now I kinda "get" a bit of what it's like being a Boston fan. All my life I've only known losing Cubs teams, but outside of that one other playoff botch in the 80's and a couple years back, this is really only the first time where they had a real shot and just freakishly blown it for really no good reason other than just fading out and being outplayed.

And it HURTS.

Bad.

Real, REAL bad.

I don't think I could take another year of this. They'd better be unstoppable or lovable losers again next season. NO MORE.

As is the pain of being a Phillies fan as well. So I am a fan of teams that stink and stink and stink some more but have a lot of heart and play their asses of as much as they can with shit talent. Sometimes though there is some damn good talent that gets thrown into the mix and makes games and seasons exciting. It is so much more rewarding over all of the years of pain and suffering to finally win and get to the big dance and win maybe than to have titles bought every bloody year. I would get tired of that after a while.

Much like I did though with the Eagles and the Buccaneers I dread the coming years where the elite of the National Leauge will be the Phillies, Cubs and Expos.

Oh please you two. I'd like to see you get any sympathy out of a Mets fan.

Well it looks like the dream World Series for two cities is not going to happen. That dream series being Boston versus Chicago. Well the sox still have a shot, but whoever gets to the series the AL will emerge victorious. If it the Yanks, they win in 6...if the Sox, 7 games. Either or, it is an AL victory.

And the worst part is that I am rooting for the Marlins, but the talent of the other two teams is not to be denied.

Met fan here, and the sad part is that we have more championships than the Phils. But I feel for ya bro, although I rooted for the Marlins down the stretch once I knew my team was out... back in May.

when you are not a Great fan of any team but enjoy the game all you say is "it's a shame someone had to lose"

The Cubs had "too much" to lose and carried the most pressure...

Yeah, It is sad. Wed rown in our futility for a living down here. Maybe why I am so down on myself at times. It's the area.

Mets 1962 - 2 World Series Titles
Phillies 1883 - 1 World Series Title

It is a bit pathetic. I think the Padres even have me beat.

I got to find a list of MLB Championship droughts AND City Championship droughts as well. I know Philly hasn't had one since 1984 and that was the USFL Stars.

No bad though cause when the Mets win one again I sense it will be truly appreciated. Not to mention with the youth they have in that line-up, it would not surprise me to see them make a run for the top of the East either.

I was really rooting for the Cubbies. Well, I guess while we're watching the Series, the body of the fan that interfered with the ball last night will be carted away to the coroners office.

i couldnt root cubs. the cubs and red sox cant win the series, i really want the sox too. but legend states neither can win, so they cant play each other. now that the cubs are out, boston has smooth sailing to the series

funny i believe the curse there, but then still think boston can win the series against FLA

I grew up in CLeveland, and no sports fan knows pain like a Cleveland sports fan.

At least Boston has had titles in the form of a Celtics dynasty and the Patriots. Chicago....they had Jordan and the Bears Super Bowl.

I callenge you to find any major league city (I define that as a city with 3 representing teams in the 4 major league sports) that has had such a title draught (Browns in '64) that has been peppered with as many heartbreaks

Browns: The Drive, and The Fumble in successive AFC champ. losses to the Broncos, blowing last years game against Pittsburgh)

Indians: Jose Mesa choking in the ninth with one out left in the '97 World Series

Cavs: Four words - Michael Jordan....The Shot

The phrase "wait till next year" is uttered all the time in my house.

Against the Marlins!

Go figure.

I still remember that day as if it were yesterday. Thank God Mesa will not be with the Phillies next year. I could not take that for another year.
