View Full Version : Art Bell Live Sun Nite = Weak

Art Bell is back on WABC [770AM] sunday nite/monday morning. Not sure of the hours but it's 3 hours 10 minutes into Colombus Day and he's on live.
Wow, serious Deja Vu. When Art was good, meaning he didn't pretend to buy into everyone's BS, the show rocked. Like R+F, the best shows were when Art would simply ask for Ghost Stories, and then people would call.
He'd have guests on with amazing claims, but his attitude was like 'wow, that sounds amazing.' He didn't believe or disbelieve, he let others decide. At it's best, a great way to pass the night, like someone I have a feeling few will know on here, at least for his radio, Jean Shepherd.
Right now, he has on someone who reminds me why Art lost all credibility, and hence, fun. He has on a 'remote viewer' who says intelligent machines are building things in tunnels underneath Mars. They visit earth throuh dimensional travel, and leave crop circles and other artifacts.
The guy keeps telling Art, when he asks how they are traveling from Mars to Earth, that they can 'travel through dimensions' but he doesn't want to 'bog people down with all the mundane details'
WHAT!?!?! Since when would explaining how to travel through different dimensions be Mundane!!! If I could explain how that worked I'd be sitting by the phone waiting for the Nobel Commitee to let me know I won the Physics Prize.
'mundane details' = I'm making this up as I go along. Art used to have a healthy, even fun skepticism. Now he's a lap dog for these WingNuts.
Sad.
And for the Shep fans; FLICK LIVES!!!!

Agreed... But it's still Art Bell, and it's still 3:30 in the morning. Anything better on? I'll keep listening.

Considering this is only one of the most exciting times a sports fan can hope for it's safe to say Joe Benigno. Then again who the hell cares about how the people of NYC feel regarding the baseball game this past Saturday.

Yea Mike,
I agree with you on this but I'd much rather talk about Jean Sheperd. I believe he was on WOR every night between 10:15 and 11 pm. He was fantastic!! I tried to listen to him every night. The stories I liked best were either the ones when he was in the army or when he was a kid in Indianapolis(I think). Laughed my ass off every time!!!

Yeah, I didn't mean TONIGHT specifically. It's not every weekend the Yankees and Red Sox are in the playoffs and a brawl breaks out. I just meant generally, on a regular Sunday night.

Like the T.V guide to television is there a tri-state state area guide for talk radio? Any kind of schedule, description or air times of the respective shows?

i've missed the art bell overnight shows ..... i used to leave the radio on overnight and the fantastically absurd stories/topics provided colourful semi-awake dreams of aliens and the great beyond ..... now with malzberg, all you get are endless hours of bill/hillary whining
i heard the show saturday night and though art bell the humoured the nutjob who thought he was transported to laguardia airport from his midwest home ..... fun stuff

I'd much rather talk about Jean Sheperd.
At the mention of his name I am transported to my 12 year old self, subverting authority (turn off your light and go to bed) with a transistor radio under my pillow.

I never much liked the ghost stories.
I got a kick out of reading Stolen Valor by Burkett where in one passage he exposes Danyon Brinkley for the fraud he is.
I also like when that one guy who rattles on about Mars somehow ALWAYS works in a mention of how he was a science advisor to Walter Cronkite. Sometimes he'll sneak in how "Walter" predicted he'd win the Nobel Prize.
It shouldn't be long before Bell quits again.
The show is also on a Cleveland station at 1100 AM, I think it's WTAM. A Charlotte, N.C. station at 1110 AM has the show.

I heard part of that as I was fading in and out of sleep. Some guy was talking about an alternate dimension and buying a ticket to Jupiter.
