LONDON (Reuters) - Scientists said Wednesday the universe could be spherical and
patched together like a soccer ball -- and it may not be infinite. article (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20031008/sc_nm/space_universe_dc_2)
Jeffrey Weeks, a MacArthur Fellow based in Canton, New York, and researchers from
the University of Paris and Observatory of Paris analyzed astronomical data which
suggests the universe is finite and made of curved pentagons joined together into a ball.
In research reported in the science journal Nature on Wednesday, the scientists said
data from NASA (news - web sites)'s Wilkinson Microwave Anisotrophy Probe (WMAP),
which maps background radiation left over from the Big Bang, is not consistent with an
infinite universe. "Since antiquity, humans have wondered whether our universe is finite
or infinite. Now, after more than two millennia of speculation, observational data might
finally settle the ancient question," Weeks said.
In a commentary on the research, George Ellis of the University of Cape Town in South
Africa, said if Weeks and his colleagues are correct we might indeed live in a small,
closed universe.

Those brits love their football. So if the universe is shaped like a soccer ball, does that mean that God's a Man U fan?

isnt the universe everything that exists. how could it end, if it ends, their must be other universes, which means in actuality, wouldnt that just be one big universe again with smaller sub universe type things

yea i guess, except a universe is everything. so wouldnt a "multiverse" just be a universe and its bigger than we though, and maybe its just a bunch of galaxies that make this ball. i cant see the universe ending and other universes beginning when a universe is everything encluding whats thought to be other universes

They are describing something I described in a post a while back; the idea that the Universe may be curved into a fourth physical dimension.

I feel vindicated. I've been arguing that we live in a closed universe since I joined the board.

What are they saying its small in comparison too?
As if everything we can see is like a bubble full of dust floating in the Astrodome? Whats the Astrodome inside? Whats THAT inside?
