You ever notice something that has always been there but you are seeing it for the first time?
I don't know how long ago I noticed that my zipper had the letters YKK on it and after that I noticed EVERY other zipper I saw had the same letters.
It's a zipper monopoly! I've never seen another brand, and I was pleasently surprised to hear it mentioned in the Outkast song 'So Fresh, So Clean.'
Canary yellow seven house of business on display
My nigga Bungle whipped it up so I gone get my rims today
So a nigga can ride out to the colorful hideout
I'ma show you how to wild out like Jack Trippa
Let me be bambino on your snippas
YKK on yo zippa lick you like a lizard
When I'm slizzard or sober 6 million ways to fold ya
Like Noah I get crews to choose and you get pretty deep
But i'll call yo ass round 8-ish I know you'll be there for me
Cause
I don't really know why I felt like posting this, but share your random observations here. (I'm sooooo bored today.)

I remember reading an article on YKK about a year ago. Apparantely they have something like a 99% hold on the zipper market. Almost every thing with a zipper in the world has YKK on it.
Here is a little background I just found on YKK (http://www.coolcaption.com/trivia/explain/docs/zipper.asp)

YKK has a monopoly on the Zipper market, they are based in japan and pretty much every zipper we have anywhere is from YKK. If it doesnt say YKK then its probably still a YKK zipper, just a different style or whatnot.

I find it weird that your Tongue is just laying there, all day, all night, doing nothing, until you ask it. I mean, it's just laying there all the time, like it could choke you at any moment, ya know?? :p

as far as the YKK thing or whatever. thats who invented the zipper. they were put on there and copyrighted like that, to almost where it took over, like winnebego is just a company, but people think RV's are called winnebago's. it basically got to the point where since that co had the patent, it because the name of quality and anything else is looked at as insufficient

I don't understand Open-Ended questions.
This is what i found on them...
The most potentially valuable part of any survey questionnaire consists of the open-ended questions - that is, the questions to which the respondents can make any reply they want, rather than just ticking one of the limited list of alternatives provided by the surveyor
If that's true then in school when essays with Open Ended questions were given out, how could they be marked wrong?
If it's truly an Open Ended question then you're kinda free to write in whatever you'd like as long as it pertains somewhat to the question at hand.
Otherwise they're just fucking lying to you.

Snoogans, I think I know what you were trying to say, but, man, did you mangle it. ;)

Great question!!! Wish I knew the answer.
For me, I make a rubric, a list of specific things I am looking for, the 'Musts' if you will.
Oh, let's say I asked to Describe Newton's Laws of motion, the list may
4= Describes all three Laws Correctly
3 = Correctly describes 2
OR
Describes 3 Laws, but there is a significant error in 1 of the 3
2 = Describes 3 Laws, but there are significant errors in 2 of the 3
OR Describes 2 laws, with significant errors in 1 of the 2
1 = correctly describes one of the laws of motion
0 = insufficient understanding of the topic
NOW: That was off the top of my head, and a real easy one, and there may be errors in my rubric, and this is only one of several types, but:
you see how difficult it is to grade open-ended Qs? And this one has three specific answers, and still I can think of DOZENS of 'What-If's'
GrlNIN; in short; if a panel of people arent grading your essays, and aren't grading them blind [not knowing the author]; the grades are biased, by definition.
I have no easy answer for all of this.

Snoogans, I think I know what you were trying to say, but, man, did you mangle it.
yea dude, i started to make the point, realized it wasnt gonna fit right, and was too lazy to start over. basically YKK invented them and basically because the symbol for the best zippers, and so most companies use them

on a related note, the zipper on the jeans im wearing right now do not say YKK. they have the little hilfiger logo in place of that, so i guess hilfiger makes their own zippers

Snoogans - YKK did NOT invent the zipper. They just happen to be the largest manufacturer of the zipper.
Similarly, "YKK" is not synonymous with "zipper" the way "winnebago" is with "rv"; nobody calls zippers "YKK's". A zipper is, in fact, a zipper (at least these days. It was initially patented as a "separable fastener").
Finally, even though your Hilfiger zippers have a Hilfiger logo on them, if the zipper wasn't made for Hilfiger by YKK, then it is very likely that the machine that made the zipper was made by YKK.

Just think of how far we've come.
Probably the first fly swatters weren't much more than some sort of striking surface attached to the end of a stick-like handle! :)

...also, i was the only kid i knew who had all the A-Team action figures inlcuding the van which was rad; i even had the A-Team chick Amy's action figure who was pretty useless......and even though her clothes were painted on i needed to see what was happening underneath them so i chipped them away with a screwdriver but when i was finished she looked more like the Terminator (robot version). this scared my mom a lot and they made me see a "counsilor."*
