I remember seeing this advertisement in the back of Boys Life magazine and in the back of comic books... did anyone ever really have a Grit route or even ever see a copy of this paper?

I remember seeing those in the back of comic books next to Hostess Twinkies "Twinkie the Kid" and Stan Lee's Bullpen Bulletins, though I never actually saw one of those papers either.

But I did a search and it appears they still publish to this day....Grit (http://www.grit.com/)

"We hear from readers every week who either sold GRIT as a youngster or remember their parents or grandparents buying GRIT from a local newsboy who came to their door. "

Looks like a good carreer move for that straight edge dolt.

Years ago, I saw a copy and vaguely remember it having a bunch of human interest 'feel-good' stories or something.

that brought back a great memory!

i never knew one person who sold grit, but i liked mine with butter and salt.

those adds were usually right next to the ones for sea monkeys.

"i read a lot. especially history. and the moors were african americans. it's a fact. you can look it up."

My brother sold the Grit and so did I. I recall this ad vividly. Tonight at dinner, I asked my husband if he had ever seen/sold the Grit. He didn't even know what it was.

Grit Newspaper was a great newspaper! I remember the days I had the newspapers all rolled up and I even bought the carrier's sack. I know I still got it packed up somewhere in this house. It was a very successful route here in Gainesville, Florida. I sold it mostly to friends at my school and my neighbors, but 5 cents per paper was ALOT to a 12 year old <grin>. I'm now 39, but I found myself reading the comics alot and it was a fun job. I can't remember why I stopped, but I did move alot whenever my parents changed jobs.
