I'm trying to get my rewriter to work. I had an issue while ago with a broken disk in my dvd rom tray. I disconnected it and pulled it out of my computer. I then shook out all debris and reconnected the thing. It worked fine. Now for the first time i tried to open the rewriter tray and it wouldnt, so i pop off the top and look inside, bottom line is somehting wasnt conected to the rewriter portion, so i plug it in and the comp freezes up so I restart. It wont turn on again. I disconnect that wire again and it statrts up. Repeat prcess 3 times. SO who knows whats wrong with this fucking computer of mine?

Its not under warrenty, I dont know what a mobo is and I'm sure it was a joke anyway, and smashing it with a hammer or ax wont help the issue.

How exactly did you get alot of debris in your dvd-rom? If you keep it closed, it should keep out most dust and dirt.

Help please.

I just got my computer (3 yr. old Gateway. jealous?) out of storage and hooked it up.
Sumbitch was fine when I shut it down several months ago.
Now the mo'fucker don't want to be workin' and shit.

It says something about not finding the hard disk and then
that bitch told me to boot from a CD.
I tried that and nothing happened.
Am I struck, yo? Why my puter be trippin'?

Thanks in advance and if you can't help at least keep me in your prayers.

P.S. First person to post a fucking Apple logo gets a BJ
that ends with me biting off the tip of your cock and spitting it up your asshole.

Open the computer case, check if all cables that should be connected are connected. If it says that the hard disk cannot be found, it might not be powered up.

And clean it out while you are at it.

I think everything is connected, at least it looked like it to me.
I made sure that whatever was plugged into something was connected good.
Oh, and I cleaned it.

Also, I forgot to mention that there is a weird clicking sound.
That might be useful info.

Thanks KG.

Clicking sound coming from where? The disk drive?

The disk drive should have a power cable connected to it, and either a ribbon cable or SATA cable plugged in. Make sure the other end is plugged into the motherboard.

I think so. It's sort of hard to tell.
It sounds like a record skipping but without the fuzz, just click click click.

Ok. I saw the ribbon cable and it was plugged into both.
I didn't notice any other cables though so I will check that when I get home
and see what I can find.
Thanks for helping. You are the best.

I've heard the clicking sound. It is a death rattle.
Try and get it fired up one last time and get your data stored elsewhere.
Then go to ebay and look for a new HD.

That's what I was afraid of.

I already backed everything up so no worries there.

Thanks again.
You guys aren't so bad, no matter what Fez says.

Jeff, can you test the HD in another computer? If you have another computer you could check the drive easily. Do you know how to get to the BIOS? Go in to BIOS and see if the date and time are correct. If not, there is a little watch battery on your mother board that needs to be replaced. This can lead to disk finding errors.
