View Full Version : Feel The Raven Effect

I feel Raven's career is the best it has been ever since the first three years of the inception of the Raven character. I never paid attention to NWA/TNA until Raven left WWE and arrived in TNA and in a big way. The WWE dropped the ball on Raven, which is obvious that they drop the ball on a lot of their talent. It seems like everything Raven touches in TNA and the Indy's turns to gold. For instance, before Raven do you think Alexis Laree was even given a glance by WWE? After seeing her potential with what she had done with Raven, WWE went out and got her. Also look at Julio Dinero. I just thought of him as some jobber and never really paid attention to him before, and now I find him really interesting.
I was wondering what your thoughts were on Raven, and if you are a fan.
If you are a fan, Raven has finally put the internet into a headlock, and it has fallen victim to what has come to be known as The Raven Effect, or rather, http://www.TheRavenEffect.com
There you can find in depth summaries of all of his matches in ECW, WCW, WWF/E, NWA/TNA and all his appearences in other Indy feds such as RoH and MLW. You can find thousands of rare and exclusive photo's of show's that you are unable to see for yourself sent in by your fellow Raven fans.
ALSO, now that the site is Official, Raven himself is putting up auctions on ebay through his site and right now there is an auction of all the dog collars used in last weeks dog collar match, with more auctions on their way. Definetly a must have for any Raven fan.

Raven kept me watching WCW, so that says a lot. WCW was really the first time I saw him and later I went back and watched all of his ECW stuff and became an even bigger fan. It pisses me off that Vince is stupid and couldn't use a gimmick that was already bigger than any other WWF wrestler's

Welcome ninraven to our RF.Net wrestling forum.
About Raven, well what can you say about the man? He has been discussed many a time here and WWE definitely missed the ball with him. At least he gets the respect he truly deserves in NWA-TNA. A World Title reign is very imminent as long as Jarrett doesn't get the strap once again.
The Gathering started out with Raven, Alexis Laree and Julio Dinero. ninraven, you did not enjoy the work that Julio did in ECW along with Hot Commodity? You missed out... what about Kid Kash in ECW? Alexis Laree is tremendous and was a valuable addition to the Gathering. She could take a vicious bump and well we all saw her on WWE Smackdown a few weeks back. Too bad she is in the WWE but it was partially TNA's fault. Good luck Alexis, my lil Gathering firecracker. "Mr. Pepsi" CM Punk, the newest Gathering member is another solid worker. Raven has done nothing but good in TNA and it shows in his in-ring work, on the mic and on the rest of his Gathering.
Raven, your next NWA World Champion!

He should have been champion back in April when he faced Jarrett, but JJ turned into superman if you remember right. He took two Raven Effects, simultaneous superkicks, a chair shot and another finisher I can't remember but I think it was a DVD, and he still kicked out. Raven took two strokes, the weakest looking finisher in wrestling, and was pinned. It was just horrible booking.
I think it's just funny that it is so obvious that anything Raven touches in the indy scene turns to gold, yet WWE didn't know what to do with him. Raven is one of the easiest wrestlers ever to book, and that's not even because I'm biased since I'm a fan. It just makes me shake my head.
Well I didn't see Julio in ECW. And when Julio debuted in TNA and had a match against Raven, I still wasn't that interested. He didn't really jump out at me until he joined the gathering. Much like Kidman didn't do much for me until he got a personality in the Flock.

Like I said in a previous thread a couple weeks ago, I find Raven to be extremely overrated. Is he good? yes. Is he great? no. He is not a main eventer. he is most famous for feuds with Tommy dreamer and sandman in ecw. At best he is a good midcarder.
And on a side note, Jeff Jarrett sucks. He is everything and more that teh internet says about HHH. At least HHH earned what he got including banging the bosses daughter. Does he use backstage power now? absolutely. Should he be champ all the time? No. Daddy just gave it to Jeff Jarrett. He has not earned anything. Almost the entire WWe roster is better than Jeff jarrett.

I have to disagree with him not being a main eventer. Raven when he was champion in ECW, drew in the most money any ECW champ ever did. That was their high peak, not ECW on TNN.
Also, Raven almost made it to main event when he challenged Flair for the title in WCW, but had to settle for a tag match.
He had big feuds with DDP and Chris Benoit, both who held the WCW heavyweight title at one point, although Benoit left it to go to the WWF.
If given the chance, Raven would have been a good main eventer, but WCW never gave him the chance, and WWE really never made the fan believe he could be. When you just give the guy heat matches, of course no one would think he could be a main eventer.
Why couldn't he be a main eventer? He has great promos, great ring work and psychology, knows how to put together a story in the match, and his look is marketable. What isn't main event material other than WWE made him look like a mid carder by only giving him mid card matches?
