I've always enojyed the show, but I need something answered. How is it that the cameraman is alway right on pace with the cop during a foot chase? I'm sure he's not filming with a palmcorder first off, and generally speaking, shouldnt the cop be at least a tad faster then some camera man? Now maybe these cameramen are put to some sort of test so theres no lard asses that cant keep up, but today the camera guy actually ran past the cop and I think the suspect just dropped to the ground after he saw the camera filming him.

Oddly enough, I asked this EXACT same question during the FIRST Gulf War. Go figure.

the suspect just dropped to the ground after he saw the camera filming him.
but that's only after the camera guy said "hold that pose"...
i would say they are using a hand-held, compact recorder...

have you ever noticed the people they collar? a guy sniffing paint in his garage, a guy hiding under a pool, southerners, etc...
not exactly criminal masterminds.

I saw cops filming near my old house a few years ago. They were in the back yards searching for someone. The camera didn't seem too large.

Not now maybe, but this show has been on like 10 years, and when they started they had those 30 pound shoulder rigs going on...

not sure if anyone seen this particular episode but it really suprised me and it was VERY tragic:
it turned out when they arrived at the apartment where a domestic disturbance was reported they found a triple(maybe quadruple) murder/suicide. It turns out a man had shot to death his estranged wife, and two(maybe 3) young daughters and then himself. One of the daughters was around 9 years old and the neighbor held her as she passed away. Another daughter was only a year old and was shot while she was in her crib.
The estranged wife had a friend(possibly boyfriend) who lived upstairs and they asked him and his Dad a few questions as they stood outside the apartment.
just have to say it broke my heart!

Dunno about Cops, but ABC recently followed around 2 of my cops for a week or two, and the camera was a very small handheld AND the guy was in great shape. I used to watch cops religiously the 1st one or two seasons...remember the hot blonde who ended up marrying her boss, down in Miami Dade?

Everytime I watch Cops I have to say the opening out loud.
Cops, is filmed on location with the men and women of law enforcement, all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in the court of laaaaaaaaw.

Off reeshy's thread...
I just started watching Cops a few weeks ago and the show I used to think was full of boring traffic stops can actually be pretty cool and funny. A lot of the episodes took place in the 90s (some I've already seen, for that matter), but I try to catch the early morning showings. I wish they showed more arrests in a show, however. The new cops is an hour, but the old cops has maybe 4-5 arrests in 30 minutes.
I assume these are the cameras they use... they're common in free lance and small productions. They're also used in big productions in which they need a lot of cameras to follow people around. For example: The Amazing Race or American Idol Auditions.
