View Full Version : Hulk Hogan to TNA?

Also courtesy of the 9/29 Observer
Jeff and Jerry Jarrett met with Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart in Tampa on 9/12. The meeting lasted 4 hours. Meltzer says he don't know if it came up, but Hogan would most likely force Russo out. He says one source very close to the negotiations said that Hogan doesn't have to demand anything regarding Russo, because it will end up that way whether he comes in or not.
Hmmmm Hogan using his wrestling status to push Russo out? Hogan vs. Sting in TNA? What will become of AJ without Russo?
I'm not sure what to think if this does become a reality.

Hogan is not right for TNA. If he were to come in, I'd bring him in for about a month, and job his old ass out to all of my major stars in that time frame. Raven, Styles, Jarrett, etc. We all know it's likely a lock he'll be back with Vince in time for Mania XX.
Hmmmm Hogan using his wrestling status to push Russo out?
Russo's been at odds with the Jarretts for forever now, I'm quite surprised he's lasted this long. And with the recent hiring of Dutch Mantell to the booking team, it may be the time to finally phase Russo out. The man's worth has always been vastly overrated.
Hogan vs. Sting in TNA?
I certainly hope not. There are FAR better uses for Sting than that.
What will become of AJ without Russo?
Bigger and better things, likely. Styles' future looks bright no matter what.

if hogan goes to TNA, it will only be for a short term deal. once vince finds out about this, he will offer hogan the world/ I think hogan is doing this to force vince to want him come back to the WWE

I heard this may be close to being done. I think it will be is a short term deal and hopefully to put over AJ Styles in an NWA World Title match.
Hmmm... if they did let Hogan will the World Title (for a week or two) would that mean... Hogan and Flair are the only two NWA/WCW/WWF Champions in history? Sorry I am not that well versed in wrestling history like many others.
I doubt Russo is going anywhere if Hogan gets on board but hopefully we will not get an increase in TNA backstage politics.
This will only be good for TNA because no matter what you all say, he is still the biggest name in professional wrestling and it can only help with the buyrates like the inital return of Sting. It's true... it's damn true smarts!
Give Hogan the World title in his first night in TNA and bring AJ styles to smackdown. You would love that, wouldn't you Eric? Not happening though he was in fact the first TNA superstar signed to a long term deal.
Smart move TNA.

Admittedly, I haven't watched in a while, but last I saw he was still the same old (no offense Peachy) "New f'n Show" Jerry Lynn that I knew & loved from his ECW days.
Unless you're getting him confused with another high-flying ex-ECW talent, Kid Kash. They don't really look all that much alike, but Cash was an ECW Television Champion.

Just for you hth, Lynn is currently in an angle with Don Callis aka Cyrus from ECWs days as part of the Network. He continues to get screwed week in and week out.
This may lead to an NWA World Title reign! I surely hope so!

Hulk Hogan Signs Deal With NWA:TNA
Story By: Ben Johnson
October 05, 2003
After all the rumors and speculation, Hulk Hogan has officially signed a deal to appear on an NWA:TNA PPV.
Hogan is currently slated for the 11/30 PPV, where he'll be taking on Jeff Jarrett, in what's sure to be their biggest main-event of all time.
...
I'll be damned if this in fact, total truth! I think this would be awesome for TNA now that it seems like it is about to happen. Apparently his deal is structured just like Sting's contract.
Hmmm... Sting vs. Hogan, Hogan vs. Dusty, Hogan vs. AJ, Hogan vs. Jarrett? Hogan vs. Raven? This could be fun.

So is that the night Hogan wins the belt? Well it ios sheduled to be 3 hours long and away from teh Fairgrounds. Should be interesting but I doubt he will win it.
Jarrett is probably getting the title when he turns heel and joins Russo (probably) the week prior. I highly doubt Hogan will get the NWA World Title that early, if at all.

I don't watch anymore because I don't get it free anymore. STyles is the champ right? Doesn't he have a match with Jeff Jarrett in the next week or 2. So I would think HHH (oops, I mean DOuble J) wins the belt and than loses it to Hogan at the PPV.
Is this kind of like the Sting signing where he only wrestles 3 or 4 times or did they really sign him. If so how can they afford him without a tv deal and how will they advertise to the non internet fans. Also do you think Savage will now show in TNA.
I know this is a big name even though he is in the twilight of his career, but isn't signing Hogan the opposite of what TNA is trying to do being the opposite of the WWE. They seem to sign whoever the WWE lets go no matter if they suck or not or old as dirt or not. This just seems like WCW now in the later years.

I actually made a mistake. Hogan might appear at the 11/30 and not this month. I got taht mixed up.

So I would think HHH (oops, I mean DOuble J) wins the belt and than loses it to Hogan at the PPV.AJ has been champion for over 2 and a half months now. Jarrett has a shot at AJ's title on 10/22. AJ vs. Dusty this week... eek!
Is this kind of like the Sting signing where he only wrestles 3 or 4 times or did they really sign him. If so how can they afford him without a tv deal and how will they advertise to the non internet fans.I have heard it is like the Sting deal.
They can advertise by using TNA Xplosion as their outlet as well as buy commercials maybe in Southern markets because it is cost effective.
Also do you think Savage will now show in TNA.He also has problems with Russo but so did Hogan and it seems like he is on board. So who knows?
"Anything can happen in TNA!"

They seem to sign whoever the WWE lets go no matter if they suck or not or old as dirt or not. This just seems like WCW now in the later years. Okay Eric you continue to confuse TNA with WCW. TNA has recreated wrestlers that have had no time to be totally exposed to the public and given pushes because of "main event" talent and those that are friends of management. The wrestlers that they have picked up from WWE have become very successful in TNA.
Hogan is the most marquee name in professional wrestling and it can really only be good for TNA. That is my "two cents" and I'm sticking to it.

According to the NWA-TNA website, this took place in Japan:
"...A post match press conference in Japan by Hulk Hogan turned chaotic last night when TNA's Jeff Jarrett showed up to confront Hogan. Hogan was meeting with members of the Japanese press following his victory over Masa Chono at the big New Japan event in the Tokyo Dome when Jarrett burst on to the scene and attacked Hogan.
Hogan was addressing the Japanese media about his future, and had just said 'I have unfinished business here in Japan. I want to win the IWGP title again. I also have unfinished business in the United States. The only title I've never won is the NWA World Heavyweight Title.'
Jeff Jarrett burst on the scene in a rage and attacked Hogan and left him a bloody mess. Jarrett taunted Hogan by saying 'I heard the rumors that you wanted to come to TNA.....well TNA just came to you.'
TNA has been in contact with members of the Japanese media and will air footage of the incident on this week's episode of NWA-TNA: Total Nonstop Action.
More details will be reported as they become available."
Transcontinental cross-promotion... gotta love it.

Chono was part of an entire nWo faction over in his home fed, New Japan Pro Wrestling. It included, at one point, Scott Norton, Keiji "Great Muta" Mutoh, and Super J - known to American audiences as "The Fake Sting" and later on in Japan as "Team2000 Machine."

From 1wrestling.com
It was announced that Hulk Hogan will return to New Japan Pro Wrestling to work their biggest event of the year, the traditional Tokyo Dome show held on 1/4.
One source in Japan has told me the Ultimate Crush II event featured as little as 25,000 paid. There were about 37,000 in the Dome, while the promotion announced 50,000 were in attendance.
New Japan announced to the Japanese media that it would be sending Junior Heavyweight worker Tiger Mask IV to appear at the NWA:TNA Bound For Glory PPV on 11/30. Mask has worked in the United States before in 1997, wrestling The Great Sasuke while representing Michinoku Pro Wrestling at an ECW event in Queens, New York.
With Hulk Hogan now working with NWA: TNA, the doors are open for some sort of talent agreement between the promotions to possibly be hammered out, as New Japan is interested in working with Hogan in the United States.
...
With that being said (used this article for the BFG PPV), this seems an even more positive move by TNA. Gotta love talent exchanges. First Tiger Mask IV is coming over... maybe Nagata or the legends like Chono or Lyger. I hope, I hope!

EDIT: This entire situation just may be much bigger than perhaps any of us thought.
Check this out:
(NJ) The promotion did a deal in front of the press on Tuesday where Tatsumi Fujinami and Hulk Hogan appeared. The angle is that Hogan may be indoctrinated as an director (part of management) in New Japan. The feeling with the Japanese is that Hogan will be able to coax away wrestlers from WWE and bring them into the fold into NWA-TNA and that Hogan can help New Japan set up infrastructure in America with an office, etc. Fujinami told the press that Hogan would not only be offered a contract as a wrestler, but also offered a separate contract as a New Japan business advisor for the United States. Hogan confirmed that he will work the 1/4/04 Tokyo Dome show. The company is pushing the idea of Hogan facing the winner of Takayama/Tenzan from 11/3 at Yokohama Arena (for the IWGP belt) on 1/4 for the IWGP belt. Fujinami told the press that Hogan was the main adviser for the company's US expansion strategy. Tiger Mask IV will work NWA-TNA's 11/30 PPV. Meanwhile, Antonio Inoki is threatening to force Fujinami to resign from company management if things don't improve. Inoki complained that New Japan is relying too much on co-promotion with other leagues. Inoki also said that is not happy with the 'trivial matchmaking' that is plaguing the undercards for shows. Inoki is back in Los Angeles. The winner of Sanae Kikuta vs. Yuki Kondo at Pancrase's 11/30 Ryogoku Kokugikan (Sumo Hall) show will probably end up facing Josh Barnett at NJ's 1/4/04 Tokyo Dome show.
Zach Arnold over at Puroresu Power details the potential ramifications of Hogan's dual involvement with NWA and New Japan in a very thought-provoking essay here. (http://www.puroresupower.com/articles/catbird-hogan.shtml)
It's too early to say what will become of this, but if Hogan winds up being instrumental in getting NWA a TV deal as well as ending Inoki's shoot-style bullshit in New Japan, I will stand in awe at the man's political playmaking ability yet again.

Well last night, it basically covered wall-to-wall coverage of this unexpected encounter. Jarrett did bring TNA to Hogan and it did reverberate throughout the wrestling world! Jarrett said that him and Hogan have some personal problems but the main reason he did what he did was that TNA doesn't want to close like WCW did when Hogan was around. Also Hogan has the largest ego in wrestling today (like that is a surprise).
Before the Main Event, "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart called out Jarrett and told him that he better watch his back. And that "Hogan is coming, baby!" Which brought a huge pop to the TNA Asylum.
I have a question, during the Tenay-Jarrett interview there seemed to be an interesting situation that the Chosen One specifically did not want to talk about concerning him and Hogan. So I ask you, what happened in Florida between him and Hogan? I do not have the foggiest idea. Was there some real backstage heat back in WCW? Maybe Hogan didn't want to face Jarrett in a match?
Anyone know?

This was the exact wording of why Jarrett attacked Hogan with a guitar and a few chairshots to "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan in Japan.
Jeff Jarrett said, "Hulk Hogan's track record speaks for itself. When he comes to a place he takes all the money, all the glory, all the belts and more importantly all the credit! Yeah, in the past where Hulk Hogan went the wrestling business went but not anymore. You know it and I know it, that TNA is a rocketship ready to explode and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let Hogan come in here and take my spot. It's not gonna happen."

Was Bash at the Beach 2000 in Florida? I'm too lazy to look it up, but it's possible that's your answer, as Jarrett was the one who laid down for Hogan's win, right before Russo fired Hulk's ass.
Apparently, Jarrett & Hogan have talked (obviously), and there is no bad blood between them.
Hogan & Russo are another matter.

Oh yeah I forgot to add this. This was in a TNA eMail Exclusive sent on 10/15... here is Jarrett's comments on Hogan.
TNA E-Mail Exclusive
Jeff Jarrett's first comments on the Hulk Hogan situation
I just got off a plane from Tokyo and man, I've never felt more excited in my life. The feeling of my guitar breaking into a million pieces on Hulk Hogan's head was the greatest feeling I've experienced in a long time. Hulk Hogan has been telling people inside the industry that he's had some interest in coming to TNA because the one title he's never held is the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Guess what Hogan, TNA just came to you.
It's been over 3 years since I've looked into Hogan's eyes. The last time we were to face each other, due to political reasons - well let's just say that no one was happy leaving that situation. But this time around in Tokyo, I left a very happy man because I made EXTRA sure that no one or nobody is going to keep me from taking MY NWA World Title back from AJ Styles on October 22 - not even Hulk Hogan.
I already know that TNA has secured footage of the situation from New Japan Pro Wrestling and various Japanese media outlets. I was told that TNA is planning to show the footage tonight - and if that's true, this is something you don't want to miss. As soon as I hit Hogan, I knew history was being made. And when I saw the blood dripping out of his head, I knew I had closed a chapter in my life that had been open for way too long, and I finished some business that had been going on for over 3 years.
See for yourself tonight.
- JJ
TNA Editor's Note: As Mr. Jarrett referenced, footage of this shocking incident will indeed be shown on TNA Wrestling tonight. We have also received correspondence regarding this situation that leads us to believe that other major developments may be taking place and disclosed on tonight's live Pay-Per-View event.
...
That was just a little extra to add and Matt, I think you maybe correct on that matter from the above mentioned mini-article.

From Tenay's column this week:
FROM: BIG MIKE (GEORGETOWN, KY.)
Big fan of TNA. Any chance that we will see big names from Japan competing in the X Division?
ANSWER:
I think it's a natural. Look for the likes of Jushin Liger and Tiger Mask to eventually be in the X Division.
...
Hmmm, I knew about Tiger Mask will be coming but Lyger? I'll be in wrestling heaven to see him wrestling in TNA with the likes of Low-Ki, Daniels, Dutt, Red, Sabin, Juvi, Nosawa, Kazarian, Kash and Cross.
Thank you Hogan?

Lyger in NWA? Oh my. That would be something.
I wonder if Tazz will pop up and make fun of Lyger simply because he's a cruizerweight?
I would laugh if he did.....seeing as, outside of maybe three guys, NO ONE - and I do mean no one - currently employed by the WWE has ever been as good as Lyger in his prime.

You rang?
As long as he is in NWA, and I don't have to sit there and look at his ridiculous mask get up, I don't care what he does.

Most definitely. Lyger is leaps and bounds above the majority of people in the WWE and for that matter, the wrestling world!
You rang?
As long as he is in NWA, and I don't have to sit there and look at his ridiculous mask get up, I don't care what he does. Jon appears, HA!
Are you serious brotha? Do you really know the legendary Jushin "Thunder" Lyger? Do you really? And mocking the mask is really wrong.
the hell with hogan.
who has the franchise chosen to be his triple threat? hth, I'll let you know Thursday morning. From "my very reliable source" tell me that it will be likely Sabin or Kazarian or more likely Shane with Legend (Just Joe in WWF)or CM Punk. Or their is still a possibility of bringing in Candido with Sunny and Bam Bam for a bit of nostalgia.
You really have never seen or heard fo them but they are all tremendous workers in TNA.

Do you think Lyger is better than Mysterio? I have not seen much of TNA but I always saw WCW cruiserweights and Mysterio is the best I have seen.

He was not able to show much in WCW and if he has at least one appearance on TNA, I am a happy man. He is THAT DAMN GOOD!
