Somewhat disappointing; I'd rather have been Eisenhower's superior, MacArthur. But hey, look on the bright side - at least I wasn't Clark or that bastard Sherman.

I am Omar Bradley according to this quiz. Now, if Curtis Lemay was an option, that would be a different story...

Se7en and AJ: You guys graded out exactly the same as a commie-symp liberal (namely, me). You gentleman have to take a deep, hard look in the mirror and figure out where you went wrong.

Here, I'll go over my answers right now:

1) I chose to meet with my troops. My reasoning is, of course, that men that love me as their commander will be more willing to slaughter themselves on the battlefield in my name.

2) I chose the detailed plan, because I like to be prepared. And I'm slightly anal retentive.

3) I remained at HQ, because I'm FAR too important to be risked at the front lines.

4) I chose to negotiate myself. Because someone else would just fuck things up.

Hmm. Perhaps if I had chosen to be out on the field for #3 I would have received MacArthur. I think I'm really more of an American Caesar type anyway.

Actually, a commander's place is supposed to be in the rear during a battle. The worst thing you can do is go dillying about up in the front and end up getting shot...Consider...

*At Sharpsburg, Edwin V. Sumner commanded the Federal II Corps, Army of the Potomac. He chose to ride at the head of Sedgwicks Division going into the West Woods, and as a consequence, became completely unaware and confused as to why the rear of the Division was being shot to pieces, men were firing into their own troops, and all hell was breaking loose. Sumner became convinced that it was a mortal disaster, and became on of the many that convinced General McClellan not to make another move against the Confederate left, which was basically holding on by a shred at that point...

*At Gettysburg, everyone gave General Pickett hell for not being up at the front during the charge on the third day, but actually his position at the Codori Houses was too close to the front, he was not able to see or deal with the small flanking forces (the 8th Ohio and Stannard's Vermont Brigade) that shot the living hell out of some of his brigades on the flanks, and therefore exposed the rest of his lines...

It's hard enough to coordinate a battle anyway without the commanding general getting in the way...

How can you leave out the most famous case of a Confederate General suffering for heading towards the front? Wasn't "Stonewall" Jackson accidentally shot by one of his own soldiers? Or was that not actually at the frontline? Because that would make it about sixteen times more hilarious...

It was night at Chancellorsville, and the attack they had made on the 11th Corps had come very very late in the day, and Jackson was considering making a night attack, or at least trying to get some of his units back online because the lines were in a shambles, units were mixed up, people were misplaced, nobody knew where the hell they were or were supposed to be because the woods broke up the lines so much and the pursuit had gotten everyone mixed up. He was reconnoitering too close to the front lines, ran into the 23d North Carolina who thought Stonewall and his staff were Federal Cavalry, and fired a couple of volleys into them...
