View Full Version : Outlawing Smoking in YOUR car!!!

ok now they've crossed a line. They want to outlaw smoking in your own car if you have a kid under the age of 16 in the car. I like the idea in princpal of not exposing a child to smoke, but this is too much. Where will it end? Smoke Nazis coming to your house and arresting you for smoking there?
Did I mention I am a non-smoker, and still feel this is wrong?
What next? Illegal to drink in yur home, or not have child proof locks as this also endangers kids?

I like the idea in princpal of not exposing a child to smoke, but this is too much.
AKA
"I just said one thing, but I wouldn't actually support it in a million years."
That being said, I can't decide on this. Dictating whether or not people can smoke in their cars is abusrd. But then again, if someone is willingly smoking around a child in an enclosed space like a car, something should be done. But who is the "they" passing this? Is this a federal, state or local issue? Because it sure as shit shouldn't be federal...

I heard it on the radio but didnt catch where they were attempting it. Dont get me wrong, I feel that smoking around a kid is wrong, but I also think it's wrong for the government to force this. They dont outlaw NOT having child proof locks in my house, but not having them is absurd.

i'm a dead man...
my grandparents would take me to florida when i was was 8 and 9, in the car... Grandad would smoke cigars all the way down and grandma smoked her cigarrettes. the windows were always closed but the A/C was always blasting.
Don't remember choking much but it burnt the shit out of my eyes. Plus they had plastic covered seats and i would freeze my ass off with my shorts and tanktops. Wow, what a vacation! :)
Had a great time in Ft Lauredale but the trip back and forth which equated to 5 days in the car was torture.

I don't know if it is true anywhere else, but I have family in Oregon and it is illegal to smoke in your home if there is a child living there under the age of 16. Not just when they are actually home, but if they live there. My sister said they actually patrol around neighborhoods looking for people to fine. And the fine for doing it is $2000.

Some of the anti-smoking laws I don't agree with, but I have no problem with this one. If you're a parent, and you don't care enough about your kids not to smoke in the car with them, then you deserve to be fined. If smoking in the car is more important than your child's health, then you're an asshole.

My mother has smoked since before I was born. Low birth weight?? I was 10lb. 3 oz. and was a full-term pregancy (BTW they used to knock you out back them so my Mom does still talk to me). She also drank coffee, dyed her hair, and had the occasional glass of wine. I lived.

Consider yourself lucky rather than proof for a science experiment. Just because you're okay doesn't mean that other kids aren't affected by booze, smoke, caffeine, etc. And hey, you never know. You might've ended up smarter without that stuff in your mom's system.

mikey boy, i don't think legislation will make people good parents. one parent might some in from of their kid, another might let their kid run around the the restuarant you're eating at, raising hell. seemingly different, but both actions are neglectful and detrimental to the child's future.
just outlaw selling tobacco, but legal to have. there is so much money being made by states like ny by these bullshit laws, and they don't address the problem.

This is just outragous. If you wanna smoke around your kid that is your decision. If you wanna spank the kid, ground them, make them eat their vegetables, whatever the fuck it's the decision of the parent, not he government.
What the fuck is the point of having parents? Kids should just be taken at birth and raised in development centers with government appointed staff. That way all you pussy crybabies will be fucking happy.
