This post is in "Old School" because what store is more "Old School" than Sears?

Man, as a city dweller who has moved to the burbs, you realize how much stuff you need just to live the life out here that you never needed in NYC.

Amd damned if Sears isn't the place where I am finding everything. And the prices rock! Last weekend? New gas grill and lawnmover, microwave and dehumidifier, Craftsman tools and pillows. Tomorrow they are delivering our washer and dryer.

Went to Lowe's - they sucked ass. Home Depot is great (been there 4 times already) but they didn't have everything I need.

Sears was the one place where they had everything I was looking for, one stop shopping. So I may now be broke but they have a customer for life...you can bury me at the Sears tower in Chicago when I check out to the "big Toughskins counter in the sky".

The only thing sucky about Sears is the clothes and the help. They only place they try and help you at is the TV area, and God forbid you accidentally have eye contact with a vacuum salesman!

not sure you should really rely on Sears for the clothes. since buying a house 2 years ago i've bought so much stuff from Sears. one of my favorite places to walk around and look at cool tools i'll never have use for.

but i do have a complaint. i had to buy a new stove the other day. went last Monday...they said they had in stock and could deliver it on Thursday. they told me i would get a call the night before with the delivery time window. we use propane so i have to have someone come and convert it and take the old one out so Sears would take it. so on Wed they called giving me a time frame of 1-3pm. it was a real pain in the ass to get a guy to come out first to unhook the old one so that Sears would take it and come back later to install the new one. because no one is going to sit with you two hours waiting for Sears. so i finally convince someone to do it and he was nice enough to only charge me once. so i take the day off and at about 10am they call and said they don't have it in stock and would call me back with an update. so i call today, because no one has called me back and say they do have a delivery date set...OCT 11!!!! what the fuck. i need to cook before then. why not a call to let me know so i can order a different one that they had. though they were nice enough to leave me a message at home about 30 minutes after i got off the phone with them. i guess then its a good time to call back.

but other than this I love Sears.

Craftsman power tools are for suckers only.
Real pros like me don't use no Craftsman power tools on the job. My Makita chop saw is still gittin' it after over 20 years, and will still be going strong after you take your Craftsman, laser and all, to the dump.
Craftsman hand tools are good because of the lifetime replacement warranty.
When I need a chisel sharpened, I just go by and swap for a new one (heh heh heh).
You couldn't give me one of thier power tools.
Way, way, back in the day they had some decent industrial rated power tools - I had a bitchin' circular saw with a steel case on it and all.
But now?
You show up with your cutesy laser-equipped chop saw and you'll be laughed off the job site.

Craftsman hand tools are good because of the lifetime replacement warranty.

I will usually spend a little more, get a tool I know will last forever, instead of having the aggravation of having something break when I really need it and have to waste time going to get my free replacement.

Sears might have some good products for cheap, but their tire department needs work. My dad told me he bought some tires there and had them put on. When he left the parking lot, one of the rear tires fell right off. Craftsman powertools seem to be for people who don't really know much about tools and only want to cut through a block of wood once a year. DeWalt and Milwaukee powertools are much better.

The craftsman line of HAND tools all have that lifetime warranty.
There are people who take it to the extreme, but they never give ya grief about it.

You can literally break the handle off a 20 year old tool, take it in, and they'll give you a new one.

I havent been able to tell any difference between their higher end hand tools, like wrenches, screwdrivers, etc, and any other "better" brands.

For the homeowner, the power tools are ok too, I own quite a few. But it sure seems most contractors prefer stuff like Milwaukee, DeWalt, stuff like that.

I love the hand tools, too. As for the power tools... they aren't what they used to be, but if you can get your hands on some old ones, go for it. My father has Craftsman power tools that are still running great after 30 or 40 years.
