OK, I'm here. Suburban Massachusetts resident.
And it turns out that this psycho bitch who we bought the house from has not done any gardening work at all (not counting mowing the lawn) in the past 10 years!!! Apparently she came into some money about 10 yrs ago and decided to put it all into exotic plants and groundskeeping...but never did any upkeep.

Now I am in this house and due to the wide variety of plants that are here...I can't tell what are weeds and what aren't!

I'm going to either hire professional landscapers to come in here (probably at several thousand dollars)to complete the job and get the place looking like it should or napalm the place - meaning cut everything down and let God sort it out come spring.

Ugh. Any of you know of any good gardening sites that will help me differentiate between good plants and bad? (Yes, I know that someone will make a pot reference and that's OK).

Help.

It does, thanks so much. I think there even may be a goldfish/coi pond back there under all that shit. I'll know for sure if I find fish skeletons.

The cooperative extension (http://www.umassextension.org/topics/gardening.html)

At the course, when there's any questions or lab work to be done I run a sample over. I've played a version of good/no good with plant matter. It's what they are there for and it's either free or cheap to use.
