I've been keeping up with this on the movie's homepage, and as much as I'm weary of these " remakes ," it does look like it might be good.
It appears as thought they are gonna try and stay close to the original story ( which in all honesty didn't have one ) but to make it a little more violent/fast paced. I'm hoping that even though they are adding the Hollywood faces ( Jessica Biel for the most part ) that they wont try and make it too "MTV".
The site is pretty good. Trailer is squared away.
I even think they are using John Laroquette in the voice-overs and introductions. For those that didn;t know he was an unknown when he did the same for the original.
The poster is even pretty spooky. I'm hoping it won't disappoint.

Looks dope. If it doesnt have 35 minutes of straight screaming at the end like the original, i'll be dissapointed. I did some research on the true story years ago but cnat remember any of it. ANybody know about it?

It wasn't ever really a true story. It was loosely based on a guy name Ed Gein. He was a serial killer back years ago. There's a movie on cable every now and then about him. Aptly named " Ed Gein ".
Supposedly the new movie is based more on his story but I believe he was from Wisconsin so I don;t know how they equate.

Oh I know Ed Gein. Perhaps I learned about him during my research? His story is nothing like the movie except he wore the faces for masks. "Dead Skin Mask" is a great song too.

I watched hundreds of horror movies when I was growing up, but one of the most ominous scenes was the whole deserted farm house thing in the original.
Very creepy. On the website they let you scan the site and its kinda got that feel.
I'd never say that TCM was my favorite, I was always a Michael Myers/Halloween guy, but Leatherface was one spooky fat bastard.

Ed Gein is credited as being the inspiration for "Silence of The Lambs", "TCM" and "Psycho". "Psycho" is the one that was probably closest, just given how Gein actually lived and what he did to his mother, though I believe he was a farmer of some kind and not a motel manager. And yes, he liked making "suits"...

Years ago my friends and I would get high and put on "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" for one of the funniest moments ever! In the beginning when "Franklin" is taking a piss, an 18 wheeler whizzes by causing him to start rolling down that big ass hill. The way his hands flailed up and his face expressions were HILARIOUS!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Thank you Chickenhawk, allow me to redeem myself.

Patrick Bateman: Do you know what Ed Gein said about women? "When I see a pretty girl walking down the street, I think two things. One part wants me to be real nice and sweet and treat her right."

David Van Patten: And what did the other part think?

I originally heard that they were going to make it shot for shot to the original. Then I saw the trailor and it is pretty close. In any case I am going to check it out, lets hope this isn't a repeat of Psycho.

I was reading a site that claims to have some spoilers regarding the film. If they are true some of them sound pretty cool. So read at your own risk.

I hold true to the belief that no remake will be as good as the original unles DeNiro "Cape Fear" and Pacino "Scarface" are in it.

Well I don't know if you ever saw the original " The Thing " but John Carpenter's version was much better. But I think there is a difference between remaking say a movie from the 50s-60's now as opposed to remaking a movie from 70's+ now. Probably because we know the originals. But think about it, in 20 years I'm sure they'll be remaking a movie that was just recently released. Its a cycle.

Because its not a frame for frame remake. They are taking some liberties with the original " story ".
And if the spoilers are correct, some of the scenes that are loosely recreated are going to be a lot more violent than their predecessors.

They had one years ago for the Atari 2600.
Really cheesy.

I think it was made by Wizard Video. They were the same people who distributed the original TCM on video. They also released themovies like Zombie. Snuff, and all the H G Lewis flicks.

To be honest I dont know much about Gein. As another poster wrote the other day the only tie between TCM and Gein is the part about wearing the skin of the victims. I've wathced the TCM documentary and they never mention any specifics as to how they came up with the idea. They just tried to present something as shockingly as they could.

Calling TCM a "true story" is like when the Coen Brothers said "Fargo" is "based on a true story".

It's not. It's a gimmick. A factual "McGuffin", if you will.

And from what I'm hearing this is supposed to be the "LESS violent, more smarter" version, whatever that means...so be prepared, gore-heads...

I always thought that was the irony in the movie. I mean they called it a massacre and in actuallity only 5 people get killed and one of them is a bad guy.
More people got killed in the first 30 minutes of most other horror movies at that time.
Most of the violence/suspense is simulated and left to your imagination. You are left to think " Man I wonder where all those bones came from ? " and things like that.
I dont expect this one to throw around blood/gore like Dead Alive or Evil Dead, but I think they will be as gory as they can be and keep the R rating.

I went back to homepage for the movie after reading that you can zoom in on the screen and read some " hidden " messages.
They seem to be lines from the movie.
When you get to the page, right click and select zoom in just under the picture. There are like 4 messages.

Ed Gein was a somewhat retarded sociopath with severe mental illnesses; Psycho is somewhat close to his story in the sense that he lived much of his life under the thumb of his domineering mother, around whom most of his psychosis revolved around.

It is unclear how many women Gein killed, but the number was probably at least two; a police raid of his home found one of his victims strung up and gutted like a pig. Parts from multiple female corpses were found in the home, as Gein had a hobby of raiding the local graveyard.

He would also alternately consume portions of the flesh or use the bodies to make furniture, kitchen wares (I believe he had a bowl made from a human skull), and clothing (he did make a suit out of the skin of several women, which he would wear - and dance around in, perhaps ritually - under the moonlight.

In other words - he was an extremely fucked up individual.
