what do you use when you peel poatatoes, a peeler or a knife?

i use a peeler because i think a knife cuts too much off.

how do you mash your potatoes, do you use an electric mixer or some other utensil and do you add milk or butter when mashing or mixing?

You have to add milk or cream to make it smooth.

here is a little tip for you guys. Boil the potatos with the skin on em, when theyre done leave em in the boilin water but get a bowl (or sink) full of ice cold water. Then take a potato put it in the ice water rub it with a towel and the skin just comes off. It wont get cold cause the inside is still hot. Once the skin is off either but it back in the boilin water or a towel. Simple as that.

Peeler, however I usually leave the skin on & mash them skins & all. I like the texture. I mash with a masher or a fork. Lots of butter and heavy cream.

I prefer them with the skins on too. Though if I did need to peel 'em, Id use a peeler. I always heard the skin had the bulk of the nutrients, though she above me may know for sure.

depends on what Im having. I peel em for things like french fries :) or mashed potatoes. Baked potatoes I leave skins on and scoop out the insides. And for mashed potatoes, I usually use the boxed kinds that you just add milk to.

I like Penguin's idea, but I like to remove just SOME of the skin. Butter and cream with a masher. And a little paprika. Just a touch.

Ever make mashed 'taters from red or new potatoes? YUMMY!

I've been craving curly fries for weeks. I just can't do it-- it's a heart attack just waiting to happen.

Don't forget to add minced onion to the water.

Anyway, I peel them. The knife does indeed take too much of the flesh with it.

But once I hit the lottery it's Knives for everybody!

thanks for the tips and feedback!

after boiling i used an electric mixer. i added heated milk with melted butter in it and they came out creamy smooth. The only thing is i didn't add salt and just let everyone add their own individually.

i like mixing my veggies right in with them, especially corn niblets and peas.
