Ron was right-as usual. The top 100 guitarists list in the new Rolling Stone is a load of crap. This is the same with every list vh1 or mtv or any magazine puts out. Has anyone ever seen a list that they agree with? I havent.

I agreed with him that Hendrix at number 1 was correct though.

Of course Hendrix was #1. and i do agree that most of the artists deserved to be on the list-i felt the order was way way off. Link Wray should have been way up there and too many people were left off. Joni Mitchell is ok as a folk singer and songwritter but what has she ever doen on a guitar that meant anything?

List as a whole kinda suck, but I like them because they usually give SOME exposure to artists/bands that probably wouldn't have gotten it otherwise, or I haven't seen/heard from in a while. Like with that pretty mockable "Top 100 Artists of Hard Rock" that was VH1...because of that, I got to actually see/hear Fugazi on a major cable network for at least five minutes, and maybe they even got a few new fans out of it.

Of course, people usually get lists like the Rolling Stone guitarists list all wrong. The list was clearly from the standpoint of what people did with their guitar, as opposed to the quality of their electric wankering. Solos weren't the order here...Cobain was so high because the sound and msuic he made with his shaped all of "rock" for the next 12 years, for better or for worse. Individually, he wasn't that great, but he basically shaped guitar music for a decade because of what he did.

Joni Mitchell basically kickstarted the whole "accoustic female singer/songwriter" all by herself (Or at least mainstreamed it and made it "big"), so that's why she made it. Angus Young rocks the fuckin' house, but he didn't really do anything "new", nor has he ever. Hence why on THIS list he ends up near the bottom.

Sure, it's not 100%, but if you look at it in the proper perspective, it DOES kinda make sense. Sometimes.

The Top 100 Artists of Hard Rock list was complete garbage. As is evidenced by Van Halen around the top 5 and the Ramones at 17.

Quite frankly, fuck Van Halen. Or Hendrix. Or anyone of that stature. Sure, they're great, great artists, but how many times do we have to suck their obvious, overplayed mules? Lists rule for the little people that were unjustly overlooked. The big boys can go cry into their mountains of money, poon and smack...

I run my life by lists magazines put out. I start buying CD's with 1 and work my way to the end of the list.

While you're at it, fuck Beethoven too! It's always "Moonlight Sonata" this and "Eroica Symphony" that. What an overrated fucking sellout.

I think these lists are designed to be controversial and outright wrong in some cases. That way, they get free publicity when the media questions whether or not Sonny Bono should be listed as one of the most influential statesmen of this or any generation.

Didn't say they were overrated or sellouts. Just that's it cool to hear from the little guys every so often. Give the juggernauts a rest from claiming ALL the attention.
