Some alien encounters are hoaxes perpetrated by your government to manipulate the public. Some of these hoaxes are intentionally revealed to manipulate the truth-seekers who become discredited if they disclose the deliberately absurd deception.

This is something I'd do with my 9th graders.
It's incredibly easy to make a nice, complex crop circle with nothing more then some rope, and something to flatten what you're working in. 4x8 pieces of cheap plywood does fine.

The Circlemakers and other groups make beautiful and interesting circles each year during the June-August circle season. However, not all are made by these groups. There are many every year that go unexplained - and some that cannot be attributed to man-made. Crop circles have been reported for centuries. Longs before the Doug & Dave sham in the late eighties, who claimed to make all those circles. British government propaganda.
Crop circles occur in countries all over the planet. China, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Germany, and closer to home - Canada, have many reports every year. Many are found in isolated areas, long after they were completed. They are not there to make news. There are there for another reason. Don't ask me what - but I've done a lot of research on these the past couple of years and I'm convinced that there are a majority of hoaxes - but there are still that cannot be explained.

these are just the cryptic communications between "Bob" and the Xists. he's still wheeling and dealing to save the faithful from being harvested by wotan and then turned over to the elder gods. as long as the smoke from his pipe still reaches the heavens...our people are safe.

There are there for another reason. Don't ask me what - but I've done a lot of research on these the past couple of years and I'm convinced that there are a majority of hoaxes - but there are still that cannot be explained.
Absolutely.
But 'cannot be explained' doesnt mean 'it must have been Aliens from UFOs'
And I'm not saying that was said or implied, but I'd invoke two things here, a Healthy Skepticism, and Occam's Razor.
Sir Willam of Okkam, or Occam, started the ball rolling on what I'm sure most are familiar with: Occam's Razor.
It's a imple logical device, used in explaining things in a scientific way, when you don't have a whole lot of scientific evidence, or if you have a lot of evidence but some of it is contradictory, or what have you...
Occam's Razor would say that, Given a list of Explanations for a Given Phenomena, the one that takes the least amount of conjecture, of leaps-of-faith; the one that is simplest, is the one to put your money on.
It does NOT mean that the simplest explanation is Right! It measn that when faced with a bunch of alternatives, trust the simplest. The one that is most 'reasonable'
Example:
When I went to bed last night I saw the grass and the lawn. When I woke up, there was a foot of snow on the ground.
What Happened?
Well, there are literally dozens of possibilities...
-The neighbors kids filled your neighborhood with shaving cream a foot thick...
-A coven of Withches got together and made a spell invoking snow.
-There was a horrible pile-up of Trucks Carry snow, and it spilled all over the place.
-Aliens got tired with crop circles and are doing 'Snow-Circles' and you got caught in one.
-It just snowed.
Now wait! ALL of these possibilities could have happened! What Occam's razor says, is, given all of the above, which of take the least amount of leaps in logic, how much conjecture?

I know what you mean Mike, but something strange is a foot. Crop Circles were around long before the term U.F.O. even existed.

I love the "hidden" history of DC's architecure. The placed was very purposely designed to essentially be one giant Masonic temple. The Washington Monument was designed the way it was for very specific reasons, and not just because someone was dink-crazy...

To help understand how this is arrived at, look again at the photo above and imagine a giant ruler being aligned with the edges (ignore the tractor lines, which were there before the circle was created).
That sets the basic framework. Next, each number in Pi is represented in the diagram by a corresponding number of coloured blocks.
Beginning in the centre with the arrow marked 'Start', the first number, three, is represented by three red blocks from clockwise.
Follow this round and this takes you to the decimal point, which is depicted by a small circle in the barley.
The number after the decimal point is one, represented by one green block.
The same pattern continues for each of the numbers - four purple blocks, one orange, five blue, nine yellow, two purple, six red, five green, then four dark blue, followed by three circles, or dots, acknowledging that Pi is infinite.
There has got to some brilliant mathematician that is behind this who hires circle makers to create such a circle. I'm looking at you Stephen Hawking!!!
It must be a grand joke to see who can get the most intricate puzzles out on the fields.
Or aliens.

Amazing crop circle discovered in South Korea. (http://www.cropcircleconnector.com/inter2008/southkorea/southkorea2008.html)
Now in 2008 we are seeing two lunar phase cycles rather than four, as indicated by two long series of small white balls which have been drawn as large for a full Moon or else small for a new Moon.
Our Moon will be "full" on June 19, 2008 then again on July 18, 2008. Several parts of those two lunar cycles actually overlap: from June 25 to 27 (upper left) before a new Moon on July 3, then again from July 10 to 12 after a new Moon on July 3 (lower right).

Phoenix crop circle may predict end of the world (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/5540634/Phoenix-crop-circle-may-predict-end-of-the-world.html)
The 400-foot design was discovered in a barley field in Yatesbury near Devizes and depicts the mythical phoenix reborn as it rises from the ashes.
Investigators claim more formations are referencing the possibility of a cataclysmic event occurring on December 21, 2012, which coincides with the end of the ancient Mayan calendar.
The Mayans believed civilisation exists within a series of earth cycles of 144,000 days each with the 13th expiring in December 2012, resulting in Armageddon

I've spent a lot of time on the Yucatan peninsula mainly because the Mayan culture fascinates me and the Mayan food is so damn good. The ruins are spectacular, get a guide who knows their shit and you can spend hours just in one temple. The also believed the caves were where the spirits were and would leave dolls at the edges. It is a fascinating culture and you still run across decedents, many of which survive with no hint of modernization such as electricity, etc.

A 250m-long crop circle of a jellyfish has appeared on farmland. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/8080315.stm)
Well this is weird. It seems the "jellyfish" pattern might have represented something else:
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/8/2009/07/504x_jellyfishwhut.jpg
More:
But who would be satisfied with just figuring out the jellyfish/magnetosphere correlation? Nobody, that's who. So Stryderight has delved deeper, analyzing every aspect of the jellyfish to determine what the exact date will be of the solar storm bent on destroying our atmosphere. He explains:
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/8/2009/07/504x_jellyfishwhut2.jpg
The new crop picture shows also seven "eclipse" symbols in its central tail (white numbers 1 to 7), as well as seven streamers hanging off below (yellow numbers 1 to 7). Both of those features suggest that a solar storm may impact Earth on July 7, 2009, as has already been suggested by several other crop pictures from April or May. The new crop picture also shows a small, horizontal, four-circle band just between its head and its long tail (blue arrows, left or right above). That feature closely resembles a crop picture from July 20, 2008 which told us about eclipses. Indeed, the suggested date of July 7, 2009 for an upcoming solar storm will be a penumbral lunar eclipse.
Craziness!
But wait...
http://www.examiner.com/x-2383-Honolulu-Exopolitics-Examiner~y2009m7d8-Crop-circle-accurately-predicts-solar-storms"]Yea, that crop circle predicted a solar storm. (http://www.examiner.com/x-2383-Honolulu-Exopolitics-Examiner~y2009m7d8-Crop-circle-accurately-predicts-solar-storms)
The Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) confirms that on July 6, 2009, a very large Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) was emitted by the sun. This was followed by what appears to be a smaller CME being emitted by a solar flare on the morning of July 7, and another large CME emitted on July 8.
The CMEs were captured by the SOHO satellite which is one million miles away from the Earth in the direction of the sun. Located in a stationary equilibrium point between the gravity of the sun and the Earth called a Lagrangian point, SOHO has a number of scientific instruments to monitor the sun’s behavior. The CMEs do not appear to be part of a series headed towards the Earth as initial interpretations of the coded crop circle message suggested. The emergence of the CMEs is, however, a remarkable development since it came right on the July 6/7 lunar eclipse prediction date.
Oh, OK. Well, at least that's going on around us.
