View Full Version : How can I clean the carpeting in my car?

Is there a sure-fire method to clean the carpeting in my old but good SUV? I am especially talking about the area behind the back seats - it is stained from spilling a 5 gallon cooler of iced tea about 6 years ago, of all things.

It has been passably clean at times, but by now the gray carpeting in that area is a sad mixture of brown and black. The thing is, it is a clean car, and it runs well, I have kept it in good shape, and if I could only clean the carpeting in the back it would do a lot for the car's overall self-esteem and image.

It is not that old, no shag
The reason the carpet needs to be cleaned is not due to a recent murder
Jennifer Grey is, in fact, hot
A fire hose seems, I don't know, too watery?
Steam clean: What do you mean? Please elaborate. Do I have to buy a steam cleaner? Who can do this for me? How much will it cost?
Thenk yew.

I have found this product to clean virtually any stain, without ruining the carpet. I know its suppose to be for tires, but I have never had any adverse experiences with it, and it was recommended to me by a guy I know who restores classic cars.

You can also buy - or go to a carwash that has a machine for it like the vacuums - a spray on cleaner the foams up and then you rub it in and then vacuum it off. Added benefit: if you car smells like dog and taco bell (like mine tends to), it gets rid of the smell :)

Thank you, I will look for this. Any idea what store to find it in?

Yes, I would love to know what type of spray, exactly, to buy, and I would clean it myself. But my car does not smell, it is clean otherwise, save for the stained carpet in the back cargo area.

I find that resolve mixed with some liberal wet-dry vac usage cleans my carpets real well.
