I have 30 gig I Pod and most of the time i feel like it is the greatest invention of all time. Though once in awhile i will have problems with it where it wont charge or freeze up alot. Just wondering if it is that way with all of them or do i have a defective one and its time to cash in on the warranty?

For $500 I'd say cash in on the warranty.
I was thinking of getting one, but I listen to talk radio way too much. and with R&F on twice a day I'm way too busy.
For $300-$500 you'd think they could throw an FM tuner in there. MY cell phone has a radio built in, with speakerphone!

For us New Yorkers (who don't hear the boys over the air) we get to load R&F on the old IPOD and listen to them in the car... they're great!
(I love mine too, but I have a problem getting my computer to recognize the Ipod on the USB2.0 port I installed on my Sony desktop. Have to use the firewire connection and since it is PC I cannot charge and use at the same time. I know it is not the IPOD because the connection works fine on the 2.0 ports on my notebook. Any suggestions?)

I have a 20 gig iPod and couldn't live without it.
If you're having probs, take it to an Apple store, they'll fix ya right up.

Ill take my MP3 CD Player over any MP3 player anyday. MP3 players always suck up batteries like a whore, while my cd player lasts at least 10 hours on two double A's.

Can you fit 12000 songs on your cd player???

No, i can fit at least 200 on every burn. I just prefer CD's i guess. Its cheaper than the ipod. And I dont need to carry around 12,000 songs around with me everywhere i go.

True you dont need all those songs everywhere you go but it is not just for cars and walking. It can be hooked up to anything that has speakers. And the random feature is amazing its like having your own jukebox without the shitty songs that no one wants to hear.

With my iPod, I never need to change cds and the battery lasts all day. I used to listen to it while commuting to work, all day at work and on the way home without charging.

That i can understand, but me being in school and at home all the time, i would have no use for something that costs that much money. How long do the batteries last on that thing anyway, on ym oldMP3 player they lasted not even an hour, same with all the people i know that own them. And how much space is on a base one?

We have an old style 10 gig one and a new 30 gig one. Never had any problems. The batteries last forever, and they rule for long drives and for parties. Much quicker than burning CD's and way more compact too. Plus you can use them as an external hard drive, and they have an address book and calendar. What more do you want??

Couple of questions on this...
If you have the iPod in your car, you can play it off your car stereo? If so, how?
Are the batteries standard batteries or rechargeables?

1)Belkin makes a gizmo for 19.99 that lets you listen to the ipod over the car's speakers. Works great. They also make a charger for the ipod that plugs into to lighter also works great.
2)The ipod uses a permanent battery you rechage in a Dock plenty of life.
Mine is a 15 gig and holds about 3500 songs. I have about 1000 on there. When traveling I put it on shuffle and it it fucking awesome great music and no commercials. My wife has one too. She listens to a lot of audio books on hers as well as things that come across the 90' antenna

Another quick iPod question, can you put mp3s you've already downloaded and have into it, or does it have to be ones you download off the Apple site? Just curious if there's a block or something on it.
I took a look at the new version yesterday at the Apple store, I've wanted one for a while now, but now I gotta get one.

If you get a tape adaptor (assuming your car has a cassette player), the quality will be better than if you by an FM tuner to play your ipod in your car. As long as you don't mind the cables. I don't think it's possible to get the FM tuner/car charger all in one dealie for the new ipods yet. They're supposed to be out byut according to the apple store they arne't shipping yet.

I picked up the FM adaptor today. I'm gonna be getting an iPod in a few weeks. I'm looking at getting the 15 gig iPod. It's got the dock, firewire connector, and the remote.
I also got a firewire card today and installed it.

I don't mean an FM Transmitter like iTrip or that Belkin TuneCast (but that would be an important accessory) I mean an FM Tuner so that I could use my iPod to listen to a certain radio show at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm.
But I guess I'll have to use my cell phone for now.

Well get the iTrip. Don't get the Belkin one, although I've never actually heard its quality. The iTrip allows you to tune it to broadcast on any station, whereas the Belkin has only a few preset stations that you can tune to. The folks that work in the apple store told me that in the tri-state area some of the radio stations have such strong signals that the Belkin one isn't always powerful enough to overcome them and some people have been complaining. The iTrip sounds ok though.

as an aside - I've been pretty happy with my Iriver 128Meg mp3 player (with fm radio) - costs about 120$, solid state, takes 1 AA battery - I get 6-8 hours on a battery, and it holds about 10 hours of a certain radio show's mp3's on it. Perfect for listening at work, on the train, etc. it's only a little bigger than the AA battery in it. They also sell a 256 and 512 now too.

The only thing missing from the coolest MP3 player in the world was a radio - until now. The iFM from Griffin adds an FM radio to the iPod in one integrated clever package that utilizes the iPod's own remote for its controls. With iFM you can scan and tune any FM radio station and save your favorites in six presets. Listen to news, weather and local programming on the radio in addition to the 1000's of songs in your iPod.

Also Apple announced the 40 gig and 20 gig ipods yesterday, to replace the 30 and 15 gigs respectively.

I got my iPod yesterday and I love it.
I got the 15 gig iPod because it was on special. They're trying to phase in the higher storage iPods, but 15 gigs is fine for me. The packaging is really cool, and installation was fairly easy on a PC.
I'm not to crazy about MusicMatch, but I'm getting used to it.
I had to return the iTrip FM transmitter because they don't work with the new models yet, I had to get the Belkin transmitter which works pretty good. I like the iTrip's look better though because it rests on top of the iPod nicer than the Belkin.
But I love this thing, I got an extra firewire cable as well so I don't have to remove the cable from the firewire port when I want to charge the iPod from the wall outlet.
Does anyone know if there's a cradle or something I can put in my car to hold it in place when I have it in the car? I could put in a cup holder, but I'd rather have it somewhere else attached on the dash.

I had an incident the other day with my iPod. I started up my system and was having problems at startup. My iPod was in the dock. Windows kept crashing for some reason, so just out of curiousity I took it out of the dock, even though the display said to not disconnect. After I did that Windows started up fine. I ran disk doctor and it fixed some errors on the drive, but the iPod stayed in the same state with it saying to not disconnect, even though it was out of the dock. I searched through the documentation and the Apple website and eventually I found something that suggested to reset the iPod. I reset it and since then it works fine. I reinstalled all the music and haven't had a problem since. I'm just curious if it was the iPod that caused the problems in the first place.

You can use the belkin transmitter if you break off the little tab, apparently. Also, there apparently IS a transpod for the new ipods, but it's apparently not possible to get it. Apparently the people at the apple store like to use the word apparently a lot.

Thanks for the great idea on this - I now load complete O&A shows and the latest Ron and Fez shows onto my iPod and listen in my car like the old days. Awesome, especially for long drives. This thing is easily one of the best things I've ever purchased.
