In similar fashion to Bischoff's "Elimination Chamber" TNA officials notably Don Callis came up with an idea of a brand new match that would hopefully increase buyrates which will give "ultimate xcitement, ultimate danger, ultimate... " you get the picture.
For those who do not know what it was, here goes. On the four corners of the ring there are steel poles fastened behind the turnbuckles. Each of which that holds a cable/ring rope and meet in an X formation creating an X and in the very center is where the title will be. The only thing you can not use is a ladder for this match. You have to climb the rope and try to retrieve the belt first.
Now we got treated to that a few weeks ago (it will be reshown on TNA's One Cent PPV next week as well as the Raven vs. Jarrett Title match and the first ever TNA steel cage match for the TNA Tag Titles). It was obviously for NWA-TNA's X-Divison Title and it pitted up-and-coming TNA stars Chris Sabin, Frankie Kazarian and Michael Shane. The match was pulled off pretty well with a few wierd looking powerbombs from the cables and a few choice aerial moves. But it was extremely sloppy and to top it all off the X-Title belt fell off the cables twice during the match, no joke. It was funny to see them scrambling around to figure out what they should do. I was embarrassed for TNA myself, lol. How did the WWE make sure the title belt would never fall off like that? They must have a pretty secure way of holding it.
It ended when a bloodied Shane comes out of nowhere and steals the title right out of his other two combatants.
Hopefully they'll figure it out before the next Ultimate X-Match. Maybe a Hart, Shane, Cross, Low-ki, Storm and Amazing Red Match? Start drooling now, lol.
What were your thoughts on this brand new match and the concept of it?
