Who here is a TV/Movie Writer?

I'm wondering if anyone here is a writer. Not just someone who writes things in their spare time, but actually sells scripts or edits them or even produces them.

I've been thinking about trying my hand at writing, but I don't know how to go about it.

Any info would be appreciated.

i write songs and sing in bands from time to time. also, some of my friends have film and editing equiptment. ive been in a few of their movies and im writing a script now that we are goin to film and try to enter into a couple festivals.

i typical start with a piece(s) of paper & a pen/ pencil/ marking device, and olding the marking device in hand, apply it to the paper. reversing the step can be detrimental to production.

but if you're serious, download some scripts and read 'em, and take a class or to at your local university.

the best way is to do it your self and go the way of the independant film festival. with dvd burners and digital cameras, its so easy to make a movie and even edit them. if your serious about it, that might be the best way to get someone to see what you do

thats a pretty good idea. even if you dont even need to know the process of it, and you just want to know how to get your stuff out there, you can still get professional recording and editing equiptment to work on, and some college film festivals are very big and looked at by the right people

good ideas. I've looked at some of the writing courses at local universities, but sometimes I think they're going to be crap and don't sign up for them.

I'm thinking about taking some creative writing courses.

I don't know though. I'm so torn because I want a secure job, but everything I'm interested in is far from secure.

TLM, keep doin whats workin right now. save up, get a digi camcorder, and a DVD burner.
take that creative writing class, that will help. also, take a movie production or scriptwriting class, something along those lines. those types of things will really be helpful, and can be easily done on the side of a job, a night class or saturday. after that its all up to your head and gettin it into festivals so it can be seen

I sold this one script that I wrote about a grown man who wears a gray suit with a red bow tie and he lost his bike. Then he thinks that the fat guy in the swimming pool stole it. He then goes on wild adventures across America looking for his bike. It was a great script. I called it "Nightmare on Elm Street Part III."
