Why aren't dogs afraid of traffic?

My dog is pretty smart, yet she has NO concept that a car barreling towards her will hurt, if not kill her.

How is it that dogs can't grasp that? If you were to act like you were going to hit a dog, it would pull away.

Any thoughts or theories

Cuz she hasn't seen what a car can do to her. Or has experienced it. Unless, of course, she has. If thats the case, then your dog either has short term memory or is just stupid.

Deers do the same thing. Can't they just stay off the road.

I killed bambi on the way to Chicago one time. Incident happened in Ohio like around 10:00 p.m. Thank goodness my car was still working but I had to get the body work fixed up. At least no one stole my car in Chicago.

You think the deers would learn after seeing all the dead deers on the road. (Especially in PA).

I actually had a dog that knew better. Some ass wipe in a parking lot one time was showin' off his junk ass car, just as my dog was walking in front of it...happened so fast I had no time to do anything, ma' boy jumped his little ass out da way by a split second. ...WHEW, still scares me.
