Mike Richter is the greatest goalie in Rangers history and almsot carried the U.S. team to a Gold Medal. His most memorable moment was stopping the penalty shot from Pavel Bure in 1994 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

umm.... i guess you just do not know hockey then. Even tretriak said that mike richter is a very underrated goalie. and when having a good defense infront of him, he is nearly unstoppable.

Look at when richter did have a good defense infront of him and even when he didnt... he held that team together.

shit, i hate the devils and all that... but when it comes to a really good player and what not.. i will give them the respect they have earned.

i HATE eric lindros... and i still do, but when he was healthy and on the fliers... he was a brutal hockey player. great scorer, great with assists and also a good enforcer. but ever since stevens gave him that concussion, he remained a C level player. but i STILL hate him.

He basically proved to me that without an all-star team behind him, he couldn't ge the job done. He was just in the right place at the right time in 94.

...so we go from question the talent of Mike Richter to saying how picking up Felix Potvin is a good move for the Bruins...Kinda boggles my mind.

No, Richter is not one of the all time elite goaltenders, but very few are. With guys like Roy, Brodeur, and Hasek it's hard to say Richter was ever the best goalie in the game when he was at his peak. But really, other than the forementioned goalies, all of whom are hall of famers, how many other guys were as good as Richtert during that time? Please don't say Ed Belfour...if ever there was a product of a defensive system, it's Belfour in Dallas. Cujo? He's a good one round playoff goalie. Potvin? Look, he has a nickname...it doesn't make him a great goalie. Kolzig? Be consistant, then maybe you'd deserve mention.

I'm not saying Richter was one of the greats, but he was certianly a very good goalie and deserves to be recognized for it.

Oh...and getting back to Potvin...I'll give you this, he is a step up from that lunatic Hackett. Flyers fans are in for a treat!

terror is about right on here. im a devils fan, HATE the rangers. no one could stop a breakaway like richter, ask pavel.
richter was underrated at times, was overrated at times. but if i own a hockey team, and someone said your goalie is gonna be richter, i wouldnt hesitate a second saying ok. he was definately top 5 for awhile. i mean i think marty is better, he does some fuckin amazing things, especially with the stick. but he gives up a soft goal or 2. every goalie has a weak spot. give the guy a break.

though in too cute's defense, if i was a GM, i probably woulda kept beezer and traded richter too
