Since I was a kid I have been a HUGE fan of the "Punchout" franchise. In 1984 I started playing the original "Punchout!" and due to the overwhelming popularity, Nintendo launched a sequel titled "Super Punchout!". A few years later in 1987 "Mike Tyson's Punchout" was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and is regarded by many as the best "Boxing" game ever made. Tyson's Punchout was basically made up by combining the earlier two "Punchout!" games and adding the world's REAL heavy weight champion. It took 7 long years until Nintendo would release their next installment and it was titled "Super Punchout!" for their newer Super Nintendo Entertainment system (SNES). Keeping with tradition the game remained faithful to it's predecessors with the game-play and characters, most still being a collaboration or near relative to the original two. "Super Punchout!" proved again with it's success that the franchise was still very much alive and strong.
Did you know?
In 1990 the contract binding Mike Tyson with Nintendo was up and due to his fall from grace they decided to not renew. They renamed "Tyson's Punchout" with "Punchout" and changed Iron Mike's character to this charmer below..

I'll end with this question and hopefully get some decent feedback. Why does it seem that the "Punchout!" franchise has been stranded? It has been almost an entire decade since the last release. With all of the fierce competition in the video gaming industry why would they shun such a bona fide, sure fire hit!?! I can hardly imagine what a new Upd@ted version would look like, my bet would be outstanding.
