you know that just helped my point. no running back in the nfl loses 4 yards on a play unless the line sucked. all those losses were cause he was tryin to avoid 3 LB's cause no one blocked. just that he got a few off over 50 was amazing, nevermind he led the league every year he played in 20 + yard carries, even the years dickerson still was around.
and who has more yards per season, who would be the all time rushing leader if he played more than 10 years, and he was only like 1 year away anyway. barry was the best RB that ever played in my eyes, ever. STAMP IT

Even before I opened this thread, I thought Immeadiatly of Ted...Ted Williams is by far the GREATEST athlete to have never won anything. Even the most overlooked baseball player, Stan Musial at least won a World Series in 1946. Ironically it was against Ted's Red Sox in the '46 series...Ted Williams is my vote by far

I am not going to quote his stats right away, but point out that Ted Williams lost FIVE prime playing years to war!!! He fought in both World War II and Korea as a pilot, and returned to play ball as if it was still 1941. For you to even say what I have quoted shows the level of ignorance that you possess. Sure Williams did not hit the 3000 hit plateau, see the above noted history to figure out why. Williams had 521 HR's (Tied for 13th All-Time), and had a .344 (5th All Time) LIFETIME average!!! And he lost 5 years due to serving his country. How can you possibly say 'Does he even deserve to mentioned'...fucking idiot!!!!

we could argue hours about why more homeruns. small part ball, small part ball parks, bigger athletes, you name it. better technologies in general for better bats maybe.
and obviously a smaller park means more home runs. a smaller park is gonna hurt average, defense doesnt have to go as far to get the ball. no one, and i mean no one, ever would have hit .500. the park is too small and the outfielders are too fast, too many balls that would have been hits when center was 475 are caught cause the outfielder can be like 50 in more. takes away alot of Dr0p zone

ok first of all baseball isnt all about hitting, and from what I hear, he sucked in the field. I never asked "who has the best stats" He was a good player no doubt. Even when he put up the best #'s and won the triple crown he still lost the MVP because guess what, He wasnt the MVP. Its not all about numbers. And this list is about the players that werent quite good enough to get it done, the ones that couldnt lead their teams to the ultimate goal, so yea, he belong on this list no question!

Who are you getting your information from?? Williams was a good fielder, and would have of captured a few Gold Gloves had those awards had been around. (They didnt introduce them till 1957). Williams lost the MVP for the same reason that McGuire didnt win it in 1998, even though he batted 70 HR's. He was not on a team that was bound for the World Series...does this mean that he was not a great player, No way!!! What does it mean, it means that the award is controlled by politics. And as for that year that he didnt win the MVP when he won the triple crown, well that is ABSOLUTLY politics!! The sportswriters are the ones who determine the voting for the MVP and Williams was HATED by the press!!!! Williams benefited the Sox on more than one occasion.

Now as for you saying 'it is not always about the numbers'. Yes and no, DiMaggio had a 56 game hitting streak but Williams hit .407. The last man to do so. Many, many many historical writers say that Williams should have of won that year. But the contemporary's had seen the last person to hit .400 in recent years, so .400 was no biggie. To them 56 was a MAGICAL NUMBER. Read a book or two on the subject. Hell I will give you one of my two published works from the baseball hall of fame that deals with numbers and the power of them. So dont be so quick to say 'it is not the numbers that make the man'. Bullshit...read a thing or two on Ted Williams, and you will see he was as well rounded as his contemporaries.

I have an agenda because you have NO sense of sports history and your facts are distorted. I dont know if you listen to the Madd Dog or what. I have written numerous articles on many sports which deal with the history using primary sources. And the info I have on Ted and ALL players from the past makes me something of an authority on sports.

Well I hate upsetting people so heres what I'll do. While Ted obviously wasnt better then Joe D (I mean how many people were...5?(and they were all Yankees)) I will admit he was a solid ball player. As far as baseball goes, I'll admit hes without a doubt one of the 5 deserving of all time. Now thats good company(Bonds, Griffey, Donnie Baseball etc)

I dont think Bonds and Griffey can be put in the same category as players like Joe Dimaggio and Ted Williams. Well maybe Griffey but only for his first 5 - 6 years in the game. Because Williams and Dimaggio were all around players. They can hit, they can play the feild, they knew how to run the bases. Bonds has the long ball, but he's not much of a feilder, and the guy cant run the bases.

He's the enemy, but Ted Williams was an excellent ball player.

Griffey and Bonds I can understand, but Donnie Baseball, puhlease!! He couldnt hold William's jock. Ted was a great all around hitter. Even DiMaggio was inclined to say he was one of the best hitters he ever saw. They complimented each other publicly, as they had a friendly competition. I just find it sacriliege that you wouldnt list Ted and you needed a reason. Ted Williams was not just above average (.344 for Ted versus .325 DiMaggio lifetime). But as you said it is not just about numbers. Ok Williams was a great fielder who could play right up their with DiMaggio and did in many cases at the All-Star game.

Now DiMaggio is up their in my professional opinion as the greatest Centerfielder of All-Time. Not only could he hit as was obvious in the fore-mentioned stats, but he also played a vastly different Yankee Stadium Centerfield which went as deep as 475 at its apex. Now by the numbers what makes DiMaggio so great is this number: 361 career HR's, 369 career strikeouts!!! That is afucking amazing stat. Even Williams doesnt have numbers that great. He has 521 HR's to 708 K's. Almost on par with DiMaggio but not exactly.

I wont do the DiMaggio/Williams comparison for it has been done and makes for interesting reading. But Williams, Stengel, DiMaggio and others are a just a few of the people whom I have written about professionally for articles for various publications. Most especially the Baseball Hall of Fame annual writers journal...

griffey i only used to say that if mattingly is there, so should be griffey. But come on, its possible we are watching the greatest player of all time in bonds, who seems far from done

im with johnee, uve gotta love a great player, who would play a great game and go get drunk afterward! this is not a pitchers era, everything is being geared toward the hitters. but in bonds defense, i dont know how many pitchers who were throwin in 90 mph balls in ruth's era.

and we should add karl malone and charles barkley to the list of greats who never won a championship. however since malone will probably be getting a ring this year (fuckin bastard ass sell out) i would vote for barkley.
