Where ever you go there are "NY style" delis, pizza, etc., so are there any other cities that have a "style"?

Well you have Chicago style pizza and hot dogs.

Memphis, Carolina and St. Louis style ribs & BBQ.

DC is such a mix of transiants (sp) because the government changes so much. You have Maryland fried chicken, crabs, and crabcakes. Virginia smoked ham.

As for trends the only one that comes to mind is GO GO music. I believe that was started in DC.

DC is a small town, it is basically an extension of Maryland about the size of a county.

Yes -- shit. The pizza and other Italian foods are typically made by North Africans and Middle Easterners. Delis? It's "gourmet" -- a lot of money for a little sub.

However, there is very good barbecue down here -- being in the South and all.

Morroccan for example. The "Italian cuisine" tends to be more "Mediterranean".

He's right. That's true for most of northern VA, too, though there are a few really excellent "real" Italian places here and there. And along what he's saying, we have fantastic Greek, Indian and MIddle Eastern food all over the place. It's like kebab heaven here.
