View Full Version : Not Knowing The Truth...
FUNKMAN

Have you ever been in a situation where you just can't figure out the meaning or the truth behind someone's actions?
For the past 3 months i have been re-hearsing with 3 other guys with the intention of forming a band(or so i thought). We got together at least 3 out of 4 friday evenings for the past several months and i just recently put an ad in the Aquarian for a lead singer(this was agreed upon by all of us)
I am the rhythm guitar player and the lead guitarist is a seasoned pro, i've been only playing 10 years and i have alot to learn but i was learning all the songs and we had some very good rehearsals.
I've been playing with the drummer for over a year and he brought in the lead and bass players.
Anyway, i thought things were moving along and i had gone to Wildwood approx 3 weeks back and we were scheduled to rehearse that Friday but noone showed up. There 'may' have been a little mixup so i blew it off. I was now getting responses to the ad for a singer.
I called the guys to confirm next Fridays rehearsal and the drummer said him and the leading guitarist wanted to talk to me on Wed, so i said fine but suspected something wasn't right.
It turns out they came to tell me that when I was in Wildwood the other 3 guys had gone to Crossroads in Asbury Park and they ran into an old friend. They said they were offered a gig to play there on a consistent basis after they had played a few tunes. They also had a gig this past Friday near the Convention Center in AC to play 4 songs. They said i wouldn't be able to keep up because they had to really bare down with rehearsals and i was out.
Obviously i'm crushed but i try to keep it in perspective, and keep calm, and i just wish them luck and to let me know when their playing cause i loved to see them.
It was a situation where we rehearsed in my basement, the drummer had all his equip their as well as the other members and i would provide beer and soda or gatorade. Sometimes i'd cook before they came. I really didn't expect anything in return other than us to continue to work together, have a good time, and play some rock and roll.
Whatever happened at Crossroads? i'm not sure!
Did they meet another rhythm guy who can get them gigs?
Is it the money, did they only want to split it three ways?
Was i worse than i thought I was? I'm far from the best but i knew i could add something.
Do they think they are just too good?
It's like "who the fuck knows for sure" You just have to move on, which is what i'm doing. And we'll see what happens!

Well, the movie bombed big except for twelve year old girls. It turns out Britney can't act after all.
Ahem, and back to reality-- I am so sorry about the let down. You are a great guy, and they deserve to get a severe case of crabs from a Korean hooker.

In my opinion, there's nothing in this world beats a '52 Vincent and a red headed girl.

Perhaps when they got to the Crossroads a gentleman in a blue pickup truck with a dreamcatcher hanging from his mirror met up with the guys, bought them a few rounds, shot the shit with them for a while, then took them around back and ripped their still-beating hearts from their chests and threatend them to damnation unless they played with someone else.
Sorry to hear that Funkman, I wish I had the answers to give but I don't. I know the feeling of wondering about all the different possibilities and if it was this or that or this. To just have an answer though would be great.

Well, I was at Crossroads, and all I'm really able to say is that the initials of their new rhythm guitarist are W.C....

thanks guys, for the support and a couple of good giggles...
my family actually got more dissapointed for me, and really pissed off than i did... when my daughter Michele found out the first words she said was "kill em"...
another friend who is an ex-golden glove champ said he would've kicked their asses right there and threw their equip in the street...
hey, life goes on and it's too short to be bitter... if another opportunity arises hopefully i'll be a little wiser and a better guitar player...
PEACE

Funk, I knew your daughter was cool when she gave me some candy cigs. Now she is the coolest daughter ever, very nice. Think of what you have there and what you lost. I know it sucks, but it's nothing in comparison. You'll play again brother. Good luck!

Bad break there, Funk. Sadly, it happens all the time.
Sounds like you were too nice a guy.
They'll prob'ly be back, looking for a place to jam and stow gear.
You could just say no, but it might be more fun to say: "gee, I don't know, let me think about it." and be real vague and always be busy or out----just see how long you can string it out.
Tell them there's some other stuff stowed down there, but it'll be gone in a few days, and of course when they call back, you are "pissed" at the imaginary guy who was supposed to come get his stuff, but say hopefully that you're sure it'll be out by the weekend, etc, etc.

thanks guys...
sometimes i look at these 3 guys and say "where the fuck has your talent got you so far"?
the drummer lives in a 2 room shack behind a house in Bradley Beach... if he puts his drums there him and his wife would have no room to walk around, he's in his mid 40's, hates his township job cause he's busting his ass in all kinds of weather...
i've been to the lead guitarist house, oh madone! it seems there has not been one ounce of upkeep inside or out for at least 15 years, he lives with his Mom and sister. he is in his late 30's. The bass player is late 30's, doesn't have a bass amp, or cabinet and was playing through my Peavey410 which was cabled to my Marshall 2x12 cabinet. It actually sounded pretty damn good. or he would play through my PA. And he doesn't have a car. He would take the bus from Barnegat to Jackson, rehearse, and take a bus afterwards to his job in Atlantic City. I gave him credit for commitment.
Again, it looks like i really don't know the music business, or people for that matter.

was playing through my Peavey410
A little known fact, I went to junoir college with Peavey's son back when I lived in Meridian, MS. He was a nice kid, gave me a ride to my car in the parking lot in his porche. He told me he never knew how big Peavey electronics was until he went to Greece and the place there had Peavey speakers.
But back to you, don't give up. Keep the hope alive and look for other people to jam with. You never know.

Hey Funkman just keep playing and enjoying yourself you have a great daughter and a love of the music. Things may break for you very soon
If not just reposess the instruments and act dumb when they notice them missing
you have two choices: Castration or a one way ticket to New York

thanks guys!
something sounds fishy... the drummer came to get the last of his equip wednesday and i asked him how often they were gonna rehearse, he said "2 or 3 x's a month"... and when i ask them about the crossroads gig they said it won't be for a "long time"...
2 or 3 x's a month doesn't seem quite enough to me if you are supposedly "bearing down"...
anyway, i got curiosity but 'whatever'
Now that Friday nights are free i'll be getting..
CLOSER TO HOME!

Bone]
Bone Bone Bone Bone.. Bone.. Bone.. Bone.. Bone.. Bone
Now tell me whatcha gonna do
when there ain't no where to run (tell me what)
(When judgment comes for you, when judgment comes for you)
And whatcha gonna do
when there aint no where to hide (tell me what)
When judgment comes for you (Cause it's gonna come for you)
[Bizzy]
Let's all bring it in for Wally, Eazy sees uncle Charlie
Little Boo, God's got him and I'm gonna miss everybody
I only roll with Bone my gang look to where they lay
When playing with destiny, plays too deep for me to say
Lil' Layzie came to me, told me if he should decease well then please
Bury me by my grand-grand and when you can, come follow me
[Layzie]
God bless you working on a plan to Heaven
Follow the Lord all 24/7 days, GOD is who we praise
even though the devil's all up in my face
But he keeping me safe and in my place, say grace
For the case to race with a chance to face the judge
And I'm guessing my soul won't budge
Grudge because there's no mercy for thugs
Oh what can I do it's all about our family and how we roll
Can I get a witness let it unfold
We living our lives to eternal our soul aye-oh-aye-oh
[Krayzie]
Prayyyyyyy, and we pray and we pray, and we pray, and we pray
Everyday, everyday, everyday, everyday
and we pray, and we pray, and we pray, and we pray
Still we laced, now follow me roll stroll
Whether is tell of his Heaven
Come let's go take a visit of people that's long gone
Darris, Wally, Eazy, Terry, Boo
It's steadily creeping up on the family
Exactly how many days we got lasting
While you laughin we're passing, passing away
So y'all go rest y'all souls
Cause I know I'ma meet you up at the crossreads
Y'all know y'all forever got love from them Bone Thugs baby
[Wi$h]
Now Eazy's long gone
Really wish he would come home
But when it's time to die
Gotta go bye bye
All a thug could do is cry, cry
Why they kill my dog and man
I miss my uncle Charles y'all
and he shoudn't be gone, in front of his home
What they did to Boo was wrong
Oh so wrong, oh so wrong
Gotta hold on gotta stay strong
When the day comes
Better believe Bone got a shoulder you can lean on (lean on)
Hey and we pray, and we pray, and we pray, and we pray
everyday, everyday, everyday, everyday
and we pray, and we pray, and we pray, and we pray
everday, everyday, everyday, everyday
[Chorus - Layzie and Krayzie]
See you at the crossroads, crossroads, crossroads
So you won't be lonely
See you at the crossroads, crossroads, crossroads
So you won't be lonely
See you at the crossroads, crossroads
So you won't be lonely
See you at the crossroads, crossroads
[Bizzy]
And I'm gonna miss everybody
And I'm gonna miss everybody when I'm gone
And I'm gonna miss everybody
And I'm gonna miss everybody
And I'm gonna miss everybody
[Layzie]
Living in a hateful world sending me straight to Heaven
That's how we roll
Living in a hateful world sending me straight to Heaven
That's how we roll
Living in a hateful world sending me straight to Heaven
That's how we roll
And I'm asking the good LORD with a sigh
It's I he told me we live to die
[Krayzie]
What's up with murder y'all, see my little cousin was hung
Somebody was really wrong, everybody want to test us dawg
Then Miss Sleazy set up Eazy to fall, you know why we sinnin
And Krayzie intended on ending it when it ends
Wanna come again, again and again
Now tell me whatcha gonna do
[Wi$h]
Can somebody anybody tell me why?
Hey, can somebody anybody tell me why we die, we die?
I dont wanna die
Ohhh so wrong
Ohhhhh wrong
Ohhh so wrong
Ohhhhh wrong
[Chorus] - repeat gradually fading away
