IQ TEST (http://www.emode.com/tests/uiq/)

Here's what I got, I thought I'd do better.
If you take it, post your results. And if you score really low, don't be discouraged. Some of the greatest minds in history have had double digit IQ scores.
Your IQ score is 120
This number is the result of a formula based on how many questions you answered correctly on Emode's Ultimate IQ test. Your IQ score is scientifically accurate; to read more about the science behind our IQ test, click here.
During the test, you answered four different types of questions - mathematical, visual-spatial, linguistic and logical. We were able to analyze how you did on of those questions, which reveals the way your brain processes information.
We also compared your answers with others who have taken the test, and according to the sorts of questions you got correct, we can tell your Intellectual Type is an Inventive Inquisitor.
You have the unusual distinction of being equally good at math and verbal skills. This means you are a creative thinker and are uniquely good at teaching others through experiences. You are also a great improviser and very good at handling change.

ur assumpion was wrong. at leas as far as teenagers go. teenage girls are one the average more intelligent than teenage boys. this is due to the fact they mature quicker. like i know carochial highschools that have male and female students, always weight the males co-op scores because they have to factor in the alck of maturity.
but as we age, everything evens out.

johnee, phix is right. women, at any age, are generally more mature than men at that age, but its especially more so in the teenage years. they basically take off in maturity around 13 and we wait to get mature until around 15, 16, and some of us muuuuuuch later.

Like I said, where did you get that from or should i say BREAK IT DOWN FOR ME and.....
ok they sed that u start of the same point facing in opposite directions, you both go 6 miles. so at that point u are 12 miles away from one another. then they say u both turn left and go an additional 8 miles. so formt aht point you are 16 miles away from one another from east to west. so now u know u are horizontally 16 miles away and vertically 12 miles away. use those measurement to make a square. then draw a diagonal line from one corner to another. u kno that on side of the right triangle is 12 and hte other is 16. so now u are looking for the hypotenuse. if u memorized certain pythagorean triples, u would see the 3:4:5 relationship. that is, that if u divide 12 by 4, u get 3, and if u divide 16 by 4 u will get 4. so u then u multiply 5 by 4 to get 20. all of this is based on the pythagorean theorem.
a^2+b^2=c^2
3^2+4^2=5^2
9+16=25
using tha basic principle:
12^2+ 16^2=20^2
144+256=400
this works for all relationship with 3:4:5 ratio.

A classic IQ test question if I ever saw one; where there is a way to figure it out doing the math, and a way to do it in 5 seconds in your head if you are used to looking at 'IQ Test' problems.
The 3:4:5 triangle was mentioned above. Good ole' Pythag. Well, a 6:8:10 triangle fits that bill perfectly too. Each car went 6 whatevers, turned and went 8. The 6:8:10 gives you that each is 10 whatevers from the starting point; a little visualization in your head gives you they are indeed headed in 'opposite' directions, and the total distance is just the distance of the two hypotanuses.[hypotani?]

COCONUT
Ahh yes, the correct answer. Now, can anyone tell me why BANANA is Also a correct answer?
Maybe I should fess up a bit here. This year I worked for ETS; the company that makes the SAT, PSAT, and a few more. I grade the essays and/or word problems on tests ranging from, well, grade school up. I signed about 5 different Confidentialty Agreements, so I can't say more. Not trying to sound braggish, I just want to keep the job.
Often on Analogy and/or 'least like' or 'which one doesn't belong' there may be more then one acceptable answer; and they can be weighted differently. Say each answer on this Q was worth 5 'points'. Well Coconut may get you 5 points, but there may be another answer that gets you less points, but points nonetheless because there is indeed a simple justification for that answer, also.
And banana fits into the 'also'

1. Yes, exactly, one is just double the other.
2. In a covalent bond, the atoms are sharing outermost electrons: Co = Sharing Valent = valence electrons, the outermost ones. A hydrogen atom has one electron. That all. But 2 fit in that innermost orbit quite nicely, so when two atoms of H interact, they hook up with each others electron, giving a nice, stable, filled electron shell. Hence Hydrogen Gas is really a bunch of H2's, not a bunch of H's.
Ions are just atoms that have lost or gained electrons. Take Sodium. Element 11. Great. We all remember that means the sodium atom has 11 protons, and 11 electrons. We know that, simplified, of those 11, 2 go in the first orbital, 8 go in the second, and there's one lonely electron left. One electron is not a happy electron. They like to pair.
Ok; Chlorine, Element 17. 17 protons. 17 electrons. meaning 2 e-'s [e- is short for electron; an e with a negative sign reminging you its, well, negative] in the first orbital, 8 in the second, and then 7 in the outermost. 7 sucks too. 8 would be nice; 4 pairs of stable electrons in the orbital.
Hey! Sodium has that 1 lonely electron, and Chloring has 7 and is looking for one. Sodium gladly hands over it's one electron to Chlorine's 7, making a nice, stable 8. An electron has been transferred. When the elctron transfers, two Ions are formed, hence the term Ionic bond. Electrons are being shared in the first example. Covalent.
There was a Transfer of an electron in the second. Ionic.
Covalent = Sharing e-
Ionic = Transfer e-
Note: This is so simplified that it's really not exactly how it happens, but the results are what they are.

i got the '6 mile/8mile' one wrong... now that Phix explained it, it reminds me of when you play football and the guy cutting across the field on an angle almost always catches the runner running straight down the sideline even though it seems the pursuer has to cover a longer distance...
kind've got me?

Yep; there is SO much physics in sports, and math and geometry, and your brain does it so easily.
Example: A quarterback does not throw the ball at anyone or anything during a play; the Quarterback throws the ball to a point in both space and time that he believes the receiver will be.
Example: During a Baseball game; the batter hits a high fly. You watch the right fielder, he takes two steps back...and waits. His brain has already calculated the ballistic trajectory of that baseball, maning where it's gonna land, and the ball isn't even halfway up on its arch.
Example: I forget the exact numbers; but lets talk major league ball. Now, how many sports are you doing Great if you fail at your task 7 times out of ten? Well, and I'm cheating here on the real numbers, but hitting .300, three times in ten, is kicking butt. Hitting 4 times out of ten..well, if ya dont know about Ted, go read.
Anywhoo: You have a pitcher and a hitter, about 60 feet apart. The pitcher is throwing a ball between, say, 70-100mph. Let's assume a real nice burner, 100mph down the pipe.
At that speed; the batter has to decide on whether or not he is going to swing at the pitch before the ball has reached only half the distance. It's actually more like he has to decide when the ball is about a third of the way on its trajectory; 20 feet out of the pitchers hand. 0.4 seconds comes to mind for the time it takes a fastball to travel that 60 feet.
And in all the example above, the brain calculates the trajectories, send the signals to the muscles, sends the muscles throwing/swinging/catching, and the amazing thing is that we can do it at all.

but isnt the 6:8:10 ratio just a multiple of the 3:4:5 ratio. and i seriously am asking this since u are the teacher and i am the student. and how good are u in chemistry? i still need covalent and ionic bonds explained to me.
Hence Hydrogen Gas is really a bunch of H2's, not a bunch of H's.

wow. thats a lotta stuff. i would've just said covalent is a bond between two nonmetals and ionic is a bond between a metal and a nonmetal. but that explanation of yours kicks my explanation's ass.
